Long-time lurker here. I had the Nitecore Tiki for about a year until the battery gave out. I've been considering a few options, such as the Royvon Aurora A1, Angels Eyes E1, Olight iMorse, and I also like the Lumintop Nano, although its shape isn't pocket-friendly. Another option I've looked into is the Nitecore TINI2, but given my previous battery issue with Nitecore, I'm not entirely convinced.
If the price is low enough, I could overlook not having a replaceable battery.

I feel like kind of an asshole even posting this when some of the posts at the top of this sub are so much bleaker, but here goes.
My wife and I are lucky enough to have lived in a 2-bdrm rent-controlled apartment for the last 15 years. It's an apartment in a house so only 4 units total. Even luckier is that it came with a stacking apartment-sized washer & dryer in a hall closet.
The washer went the other day (20 years old so no huge surprise). We got in touch with the property manager and they decided to replace both the washer & dryer.
We weren't here when they were installed so we were surprised to get back and see that they weren't apartment sized but rather full-size units.
They're absolutely massive. They take up the whole closet. We used to be able to store other laundry-related stuff in there (soap, ironing board, iron etc...) and now we have to try and find room in our already seriously cramped apartment for all that stuff and then go get it from elsewhere whenever we want to do laundry. We also don't even need them, there's only two of us. I can't see us ever needing to do a load of laundry that big and we'll just end up wasting water and hydro.
It feels pretty or ungrateful to complain, but man this is going to actually make things tougher for us. Just curious what other folks would do. Suck it up, or try to nicely mention the issues.

Recently Ive been really empty. Usually I feel like this but even moreso like just a giant void. Im so numb 24/7. I just go along with the flow but once someone asks me stuff I just stop like a fucked up robot. Honestly robots probably have more personality than me.
Didn't use to be like this. I have such a hard time socializing now. I just work, sleep & rot away. Im so tired. I have such a hard time accepting people into my life. All I know is work. Dont have time for much else tbh. I was told that I was too much ever since I was little so I stopped being anything. Put my head down and started a job at 15 (now 23). I never stopped so I never really had a life. My friends all ditched me eventually, parents never cared, siblings moved on.
I want to run away. Just pick up my sad shell of a person and move so far that no one could find me. Maybe I can continue to wither without bothering anyone.

Some of my fav games in general are dark souls borne + sekiro and elden ring stuff, god of war, league of legends, monster hunter, final fantasy series in general, resident evil, persona 5, Apex legends, Lost ark, Overwatch amongst other stuff, I'm also currently playing runescape (Rs3) as it is one of my fav childhood games! (bonus points if you are familiar with it, I used to play oldschool runescape too) If you are someone who likes games I'm sure we potentially could play something we both like and bond over that although I can be picky lmaoo
I enjoy art and creative stuff in general, mainly like colouring and line-art stuff so if you like to draw I'd love to talk about it and share stuff although I haven't had the motivation to draw for a while now

Some of my fav games in general are dark souls borne + sekiro and elden ring stuff, god of war, league of legends, monster hunter, final fantasy series in general, resident evil, persona 5, Apex legends, Lost ark, Overwatch amongst other stuff, I'm also currently playing runescape (Rs3) as it is one of my fav childhood games! (bonus points if you are familiar with it, I used to play oldschool runescape too) If you are someone who likes games I'm sure we potentially could play something we both like and bond over that although I can be picky lmaoo
I enjoy art and creative stuff in general, mainly like colouring and line-art stuff so if you like to draw I'd love to talk about it and share stuff although I haven't had the motivation to draw for a while now

So a few days ago, I asked a general question for research, where I mentioned my income for a purpose.
I received a lot of DMs asking me about how I do it, so today InshaAllah I’ll tell you exactly everything you’ll need and I am going to be completely transparent and gonna do it for the sake of Allah SWT and not for personal benefits.
Starting off, I going to turn 18 in a month InshaAllah, From the childhood, I was very interested in technology, built my first RC car at the age of 12 all by myself & I used to teach fellow students about strategy to study less & perform good.
So everything was going good but Covid ruined everything financially.
So by living at a very small house with very low expenses, total expense was around 40k and I couldn’t see my parents struggle to find that amount.
So I’ve been a person interested in reading books, researching things up, writing diaries on whole topics etc.
I also learnt video editing, 2d animation and some programming stuff just for fun around a year before Covid.
So I used those skills to create some amazing video when I was 14 I guess, not sure, after many “Failed” ideas, one of my video went viral and got 100million views in a single month and got me 300k subscribers, But right after a month, I got a copyright strike because I used copyright free music which was later bought by a copyright company.
So I still have the channel but it’s dead, even got silver play button from it.
At that time I learnt game development skills and I many other skills cause I was really into tech and couldn’t leave something once I start it.
So my brother who was 4 years old gave me an idea of creating a fiverr account, my brother is Alhamdulillah a very intelligent kid and he is my best friend honestly.
So we created fiverr account, after 4 months, got first client, it was a small order, a very small one indeed.
It was a new technology but I learnt it and completed the project and got 5 star reviews Alhamdulillah.
So sales started coming, got 10 orders that month and gig ranking dropped, a scammer contacted me asked my to do a project for her, she was from India residing in USA, I had to learn several new softwares and worked for two months for $100 ( she didn’t placed the order tho and asked me to talk on Skype so communication would be outside fiverr )
In short after two months she didn’t placed order, took my work and made my fiverr suspended.
I was pretty shocked for 5 months but I never let me emotions take over me so,
In these five months, I learned to use each and every program and developed many strong skills and I was able to create results better than people with years of experience.
So started another fiverr and this time got 30 orders and my parents were happy and we decided to move into a new house which was also on rent, but the day we decided, my gig again deranked, this time I again worked hard for a well ( 18-20 hours a day ), used to eat at my table, and learnt metaverse and stuff related to that and Alhamdulillah that gig ranked.
then I moved out of fiverr and started researching about Sales, leads, marketing and Alhamdulillah started an agency offering metaverse services that got me to 10 lacs a month.
From that point onward, I focused on physical stuff, starting lifting weight ( a little bit ), started doing boxing and trained so much that now anybody can barely beat me in a spar, I researched a lot of different topics, wrote complete diaries about business and types ( if I hand that diary to a person with skills, he can build an empire within a year ) so basically there was a lot of info in it.
Also wrote diaries about boxing, public speaking and researching a lot.
Now my inter part 1 exams were in two months, so I decided to work full time for 1 months and Alhamdulillah grew income to 30 lacs+ and automated everything.
I am very well known in Intellectual conversations specially on serious topics like politics, religion & business, I've heard a tons of compliments in the past year Alhamdulillah & It gave me the motivation to keep learning & researching
So this was my story for everybody who is interested, it was full of hustle, I was a deep thinker so my backup plans have backups plans, and I’ve never been addicted to anything, nor phone, nor gaming etc Alhamdulillah.
So all thanks to Allah SWT, now good news for you guys, if you have any questions, dm me, I’ll be writing posts about the questions and I’ll try my best to answer everybody in inbox and comments but my exams are going on so don’t mind the delay.
Another good news is I have mentored a lot of relatives and friends and Alhamdulillah by now they’re all doing pretty good.
So I am thinking to start a YouTube channel in which I’ll teach you about every business model by showing case studies of my businesses, I’ve did YouTube, dropshipping, SMMA and almost everything possible in online world,
I’ll also help out everybody whether you’re a beginner and looking to start or a pro but looking to scale
it’ll be completely free as I am doing it only to help everybody. So if you guys are interested, ask me any questions whatever you want but make sure to include “beginner” if you have never earned from online stuff, “intermediate” if your income is around 0-5 lacs “Pro” if it’s 5-20 lacs “Extremely pro” if it’s above 20 lacs

Hello. I have been working on a world building project on and off for several years now. It is mostly used for TTRPG campaigns I run. My nerdy high school self loving stuff like Tolkien, Baldur's Gate, & Elder Scrolls meant that world started out as generic. However as time has gone on I have go through multiple rounds of resetting the world and rebuilding. Since I study things like comparative politics, public policy, international relations, political economics, and religious history in college I tend to do these restarts whenever I finished a major semester or year. Right now I am in the middle of another round of rebuilding and had some questions . Sorry for the long setup, I tend to be overly verbose when it comes to stuff that I can care about like worldbuilding.
So the setting I am working on is right now called Mundis. Over time I have shrunken the "known world" down. Decided that it was not really worth adding in all these more outside cultures into a setting for vague ideas of diversity if I wasn't going to be able to give these other cultures their due justice. On of these shrinking efforts resulted in me making it so their were no other ancestries other than humans. After all if I am basing a culture on the Minoan Greeks it kinda feels weird to then make them all nonhuman elves or whatever. Plus other ancestries tend to result in different life spans which makes a historic timeline of the setting more annoying to make or you have to start asking questions about who can breed with who. All and all it is a real headache.
However, I do still like some aesthetic elements associated with ancestries. So I have thought about adding aspects back in, but still making them just minor differences in what are humans. For example have thought about making it so the ancient Celtic like people of my world had elf like ears (again don't know why just always liked that look). Nowadays such a trait is usually only found among the people of the Island Kingdom of Caliden (the primary setting for most of my campaigns). I also wanted to make it so more wolf like peoples live in the northern highlands of Caliden. Cause in the past I made it so the ancient culture of the land thought werewolves were a sacred blessing from Cernun the Slayer & God of the Hunt. Thus in the highlands, where people are more resistant to the missionary efforts of the Church of Magna Matrona, there is still a practice of clan chiefs and their close kin purposely becoming werewolves. Such traditions have made it so the peoples of the highlands clans commonly are more hairy and have sharper teeth. However, they are still normal humans at the end of the day and if it wasn't for people going out of their way to be werewolves then have kids then these traits would go away after a few generations. Then in the north I wanted to give my Finno-Ugric inspired peoples tusk-like teeth, don't have a fully fleshed out reason why, but I already had them using saber tooth tigers as mounts and hunting mammoths, so have some ideas about connecting this to some religious or cultural rites (perhaps some kind of magic blood baptism. That using these more toothy animals blood affects people in way that makes them take on that aspect of these beasts.) Then the last one I thought of was having an cultural group in my ancient Greek inspired island region called the Men-of-Taros. These would be a more traditional, militant, and Minoan inspired people who are also known for having horns on their head. Again don't have a fully fleshed out reason for this.
When it comes to this stuff I am not worried so much if these ideas are bad. I am just worried I am trying to have my cake and eat it too when it comes to having an all human world but keeping aspects of many traditional fantasy ancestries. Not to mention I don't want to seem like I am trying to purposely paint one culture as more "savage" (my goal would be to portrayed something like werewolves in a nuanced way to try to avoid that.) So do you all think I am trying to have it both ways too much and should just bite the bullet, go all normal humans or go back to having some fantasy ancestries again. "Michael Jackson insisted on it and recommended him and it was not for me to tell him no," said Gongaware. "I wanted to provide what was necessary for him to do his job...He wanted a doctor and I wanted him to be healthy." Even after the offer of $150,000, Murray wasn't satisfied. "He started saying he wanted more and I said, 'The offer is coming directly from the artist," Gongaware said. Minutes later, he said Murray accepted. "Did that seem desperate to you?" asked Panish."We agreed on what the compensation was going to be, but there were a lot of issues to be resolved," Gongaware said. Gongaware told the jury he called Dr. Finkelstein to ask what a fair price for a tour doctor would be. Doctor told him it was $10,000/week. As to Dr. Finkelstein wanting to be the tour doctor, Gongaware said he didn't recall specifically, but knew he wanted it."After his death we may have talked, but I don't recall specifics," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he sees Dr. Finkelstein a few times a year, but the subject of Michael never came up. Panish asked Gongaware if Dr. Finkelstein wanted to know if Michael was clean or using drugs. She is convinced that I'm lazy and abusing my mom by needing help and being able to do little in setting up our apartment (a person that stumbles and falls easily is more useful by laying in bed then by standing on a ladder, how strange). She tells this conviction to everyone within our buildings.
As for how she came to her mental illness conclusion: In between my very painful and disabling collection of physical health issues my mom mentioned PTSD. Karen asked what PTSD is, my mom explained what it is, how it affects me, that it's the result of a very abusive childhood and that due to the abuse going on for around two decades it takes years of therapy to heal / learn to cope with what can't be healed. After this Karen said: "So her issues are all mental illness."
I know she's just a c u next Tuesday but this makes me very angry. I have had one of the world's most painful disorders years before the abuse started, when I was still in diapers. I also experienced a shit ton of medical gaslighting up to the point of a neurologist trying to convince my mom I made it all up.
I know Karen uses the mental illness excuse because after being told what's physically wrong with me she can't say "I have rheuma and am physically active so stop pretending and pull your weight" anymore. But it's still infuriating. I wish she had to live with my limitations and pain for a day. And I literally cry because I can't do things like chores, moving stuff, building furniture and walking my dog anymore, while this redacted shames me for it.
On a positive note: My mom has reacted by going inside, telling me and then practicing to say: "When was your last pain free day? Week? Month? When was the last time you were in so much pain that there were tears streaming from your face?", Because the answers for me are 5 years, a 15 years, newborn and yesterday. What Programming Language/Career you should go into?
i think you the person asking this question has the answer. every language/career has different difficult, adventure, salary and stress, and you should only go into the one in which YOU are interested in.i want to go into embedded systems because those small computers & programming them is what attracts me, the salary is quite decent too, the stress it gives is almost none since it is what i am interested in.
any idiot can get into programming for the juicy money, but to actually earn what the professionals in this field earn you'll have to be passionate about your field & job.
and not only that but you'll have to get a degree too, because yes you can learn most of the stuff online but colleges, the good ones especially teach alot of stuff that you may not find online and not the mention that actually getting the job will be alot easier since the company knows you studied in the good college thus you have the skill they need.

1. Kindness Matters
Advise, don't criticize.- Post with empathy, thoughtfulness, and constructive commentary rather than judgment. Don't be an asshole.
- Name-calling, slurs (including gender or race based slurs), and insults towards other community members will not be tolerated. Do not attack others for their personally held values, custody situation, marital status, physical distance from stepkids, or economic status; or on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, or ethnicity.
- No name-calling toward children, including the above-mentioned insults or the term "skids", or terms such as "mini-wife" or "mini-husband."
- Comments advocating spanking or any mention of wanting to harm children are not allowed.

2. No Drama
This is a support sub.- Bickering, nitpicking, and thread derailment will not be tolerated and will be subject to removal at moderator discretion.

3. Report, Don’t Rant
No backseat modding.- If you see someone breaking the rules, report the post or comment to the mods rather than engaging them in an argument. Failure to do so may be subject to comment removal at moderator discretion.
- No meta posts complaining about rude comments, DMs, or general sub issues.
- If you think someone is a troll or previously banned user, either use the report function or message the mods to direct their attention to the issue.
4. No Naming & Shaming
No userpings or links.- Tagging/pinging users or other subreddits in an attempt to bully, harass, or complain will not be tolerated. Do not tag other subs, ever.
- If you want to complain about another subreddit being hostile to stepparents, do not name the subreddit. "Other parenting/advice/judgement subs" will suffice.
5. No Platitudes
Nobody knew what they were getting into.- Comments like "You knew what you were getting into", "Love them, love their kids!", "They're a package deal!" and "You have to love them like your own!" will be removed.
- Comments suggesting that OP is not cut out for stepparenting will be removed at moderator discretion.
- Comments like "This is just a part of parenting, deal with it!" will be removed at moderator discretion.
6. No Trolling
We have zero tolerance for trolls.- This is a support sub. Our subscribers do not have the time, nor inclination, to provide support to internet trolls. Posts that are suspected to be trolling attempts will be immediately removed, and the poster banned.
- Concern trolling, devil's advocating, gish-galloping, sealioning, and general asshattery are subject to immediate removal and banning without warning or notice.
- Any attempt to circumvent the ban by creating a new username will be reported to reddit admins and possibly result in account suspension.
7. No Personally Identifiable Information
Use discretion when posting.- We highly recommend using a separate account for support subs to help prevent being doxxed. Do not post any information that may allow others to figure out your identity.
- Do not post photos of children, or any other photo that could be used to identify you or another user on the sub.
- Any image that contains a name or other identifying information should have the name or identifying information blurred out. This includes drawings, notes, and screenshots.
- Do not link to social media or any articles/blogs where you or another user on the sub is mentioned by name.
8. No More than 2 Posts per 24 hours
Use the daily threads.- We are not a huge sub, but we are no longer a small sub. If you have multiple grievances to air, use the daily discussion threads instead of multiple posts.

Remember the human.- Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life.

- Downvoting is reserved for comments that don’t contribute, and shouldn't be used to indicate disagreement.

10. No Porn, Spam, Blogs, or Research Studies/Surveys Without Mod Approval
Just don't.- This is a SFW subreddit. Posting pornography will result in immediate post removal and permanent ban.
- Advertising on the subreddit (outside of Reddit's own advertising) is not allowed.
- No personal blog posts are allowed without express moderator permission.
- No advertising without prior mod approval.
- No asking for money/posting fundraisers/etc.
- For links to parenting research studies or surveys, please message the mods for permission before posting.
11. Disputes in Modmail Only
Don't argue with the mods on the sub.- Any issues specifically related to how a mod is moderating should be addressed to the full moderating team via mod mail. This ensures that all mods are aware of any concerns and prevents disintegration of the topic thread at hand.
- This means to do not message or send chat requests to individual mods. All discussion and complaints about mod actions need to be done in mod mail ONLY. Failure to follow this rule can result in an immediate permanent ban.
- Comments in threads asking about mod decisions are subject to removal without notice.
12. Moderator Actions
We aren't kidding.- Users are expected to know the rules before posting. If you are warned or banned for violating the rules, ignorance is not an excuse.
- Moderators will remove posts and comments and/or lock threads in accordance with the rules above. Typically this happens when threads have gone off-topic in a way that is not productive for the OP, or comments overall have become contentious or disrespectful.
- If a poster continues to argue or to willfully violate these rules, temporary and permanent ban procedures will be followed. Any attempts to avoid or bypass temporary bans will result in a permanent ban. User bans will not be discussed in the sub. Questions posted about user bans are subject to removal and the poster subject to warning/ban procedures. The mod team will not discuss a specific user ban with anyone other than the user involved.
- New accounts are subject to manual approval until they are no longer deemed "new" by the mod team. This helps to weed out trolls and ban evaders.
- We rely on Automoderator to scan for specific words and phrases that are not welcome here and notify the mod team to review the comment or post. This includes slurs of any type and platitudes such as "Love them as your own!"
- The mod team uses a combination of blacklisting and banning when dealing with trolls.

FAQ - About the Rules
What does Kindness Matters mean?
- Shortest version? Don't be an asshole. People come here for support and advice, they do not come here to be yelled at or told they are the reason everything is going sideways. There are ways to point out that someone may want to do some reflection on their own actions and reactions without being an asshole about it.
- The purpose of this subreddit is to provide support and a sense of belonging for struggling stepparents. We aren't here to pass judgement, but rather to offer support, empathy, and constructive commentary. That does not include "hard truths" or "tough love." Stepparents get enough of that in every other subreddit, we're not passing it out here. Be respectful.
- Remember, most people aren't going to come to a sub like this when everything is going great and everyone is getting along. People are coming here when they are down, when they are feeling defeated and stretched to the limit. Kicking someone when they are down is shitty behavior and we don't tolerate it.
What about being kind to the kids?
- "Won't somebody think of the children?" Pearl clutching isn't needed here. If you read the Kindness Matters rule closely, you will see that there is a clause in there about name calling children. We don't allow it. We also don't allow people rolling in telling OP that they feel sorry for their stepkids because OP is feeling overwhelmed and overloaded.
- If anyone is advocating slapping, spanking, or any other form of violence, report the comment immediately. We do not advocate violence towards children of any sort. The mod team does not advocate any sort of physical punishment at any time.
- Venting about behaviors is not the same as insulting the kids. However, if you see a post or comment where kids are being name called or dragged to the point of no return, use the report button. We try to catch the posts and remove them before they hit the sub, but we cannot see every comment without your help. Use the report button to bring problematic comments to our attention. Don't engage in a war of words on our subreddit.
Why is this sub such an echo chamber?
- Not allowing contributors to pile on and tell OP that they are a terrible human being who should never be around children does not equate to being an echo chamber. Many contributors here will offer OP suggestions to help them work through their resentments and frustrations, and the most egregious situations are called out. We simply ask that it be called out with respect.
- If you feel that a post is simply too much for you to handle without following the rules, move on to another post.
- If you believe that a post itself is crossing the rules report it. If the mod team has approved the post, it is because the mod team believes that the OP needs help from the community or needs a moment to vent and move on from their vent. That does not give you license to pile on disrespectfully. Unless it is proven that OP is a bot, assume that OP is a human being with real thoughts and feelings and has posted from a place of vulnerability.
Why can't I tell OP that they are an asshole?
- Because this isn't a judgement sub. We aren't AITA, we don't want to be AITA.
- Comments with terms like YTA, NTA, ESH, NAH will be removed.
- Don't start your posts with INFO either. We generally recognize that as a fishing attempt for more information to pass judgement on OP, and again, we are not a judgment sub.

What is a gendered slur?
- While it seems that everyone understands what racist slurs are, people struggle understanding the concept of gendered slurs. Generally speaking, we are talking about derogatory nouns or verbs that are used to negatively describe people or situations based on gendered terms.
- We've gone back and forth on this a few times, and the truth is, we get it, it's your safe space and you want to be able to vent about BM/BD how you want to vent about them, without us telling you how to vent about them. Fair enough. Vent away. What we are going to stick to here how people are referring to other users and to stepchildren.
- Examples that are not allowed:
- "My SD is such a little bitch."
- "She dresses/acts like a slut."
- "My SS acts like a pussy."
- "My SS is such a beta male."
- "You are all fucking whores."
- "Any dude who is raising some sluts kids is a cuck!"
- "Little Lord Fauntleroy over here thinking he runs the house!"
- "You're just the bangnanny, get used to it."
- Don't call users here names, don't call stepchildren names.
- Masking the term with asterisks or other neat little tricks might get you around the bot, but if we see it, we're removing it and quite possibly giving you a time out. The intended word is still there and you deliberately tried to skate the rule.
- As there is not enough space to list every term that is offensive and does not belong, nor every situation in which term or phrase may be allowable in context, this rule is enforced based on moderator discretion.
Seriously? You are the language police now?
- We're here to talk about stepparenting. And we would like for that to happen in a respectful way. Attacking each other doesn't help. Belittling stepchildren draws in trolls who don't understand your frustration, all they see is an evil stepmonster talking shit on the internet about a poor, innocent baby. Yes, even if that "poor, innocent baby" just robbed you blind and set fire to the house on their way out the door. That's just how it goes.
- We are aware that this is a relatively new rule and a lot of older posts and comments contain a lot of problematic language, including some from mods themselves. We are growing and evolving, and rules change as the sub grows and evolves.
What does No Drama really mean?
- Pretty much what it says, do not bring drama from other subs into this sub. Do not engage in vote brigades. Do not try to incite other subscribers to riot in a different sub. Don't follow posters into this sub from other subs to continue to harass them. Do not badger someone or derail threads. Do not harass community members because you don't agree with them. There's enough drama in the daily lives of subscribers, more isn't needed.
What is thread derailment?
- When a comment chain has devolved to the point where all you are doing is arguing back and forth with someone about the same thing over and over again, you have derailed the thread. Also known as bickering. It's what children do. We assume if people are in a stepparent role they are adults. We expect you to act like it.
- If you aren't a stepparent, or in a stepparenting role, consider that perhaps this subreddit isn't for you. If you want to participate, do so with respect. Thread derailment, arguing, bickering, and nitpicking are not allowed.
But what if they didn't answer my question?
- No one has to answer your questions. This is a support sub, not an inquisition. Jumping on a bandwagon with "OP is evading the question" in a 20 comment long chain is the epitome of thread derailment. You'll find more information about trolling below and how this might be considered such.
Why am I being silenced? I'm just asking for a back and forth!
- Thread derailment, badgering, and nitpicking are considered harassment. Continued harassment of either community members or mods will get you banned.
Why can't I look at someone's post history and comment about it?
- No mod in the history of this sub has ever once said post histories are forbidden. What we do frown upon is using someone's post history to attack, belittle, or otherwise harass someone.
- Example Post: "My stepkid's mom really hates me. How can I make this better?"
- Okay: "Based on the timeline and your post history, it looks like this may have started as an affair. Unfortunately there's going to be outstanding issues for a long time due to that. Try focusing on yourself and how you can move forward without worrying about how someone else feels about you."
- Not Okay: "Holy shit! You were the OW! What the hell do you expect, homewrecker?!"
- Example Post: "I am completely overloaded and feeling very down about myself."
- Okay: "In your post history you mentioned that your spouse wasn't really helping around the house. Has that changed at all?"
- Not Okay: "LOL, you already got the answers you need in your post on relationships. You are stupid for sticking with your lazy spouse."
Why can't we crosspost stuff to other subs?
- We can't stop you from doing so. The problem isn't that something has been crossposted, it's when the community that it's been crossposted to feels the need to come over here and harass OP. When we see that happening, we lock the post and start passing out bans. If you did the crossposting, you'll be banned. If you participated in the brigading, you'll be banned.
What if it's my own post?
- Again, we can't stop you from doing so. We prefer that you don't technically crosspost, but rather just copy and paste your post. Why? Because inevitably the above will happen. Redditors from other subs will follow you back to /stepparents and start attacking users here. It just happens.
What is "brigading"?
- Reddit defines vote manipulation and brigading as follows:
- Using multiple accounts, voting services, or any other software to increase or decrease vote scores.
- Asking people to vote up or down certain posts, either on Reddit itself or through social networks, messaging, etc. for personal gain.
- Forming or joining a group that votes together, either on a specific post, a user's posts, posts from a domain, etc.
- We, along with pretty much every other subreddit that has ever had to deal with this nonsense, further define brigading as this: You saw a post on another sub that linked to our sub either via a link in a comment or a crosspost. It was basically saying something along the lines of "OMG, check out these assholes over on /stepparents! They literally hate all their stepkids!" And then you and your friends come over and start hammering on OP and telling OP how much they suck. Congrats, you have just participated in a brigade.
What is this whole Report, Don't Rant thing about?
- If you see a post or comment that breaks the rules, instead of engaging, report it. When you report it, it sends notification to the mod team. We will act on it where appropriate. Engaging with bad faith users may result in your comments being removed. If you repeatedly do so, you may end up being banned.
What if I see an obvious troll?
- Report it.
What if they are being really mean in comments?
- Report it.
What if they are harassing me in private messages?
- Step 1: Report them to admins. You can report harassment to reddit by using this link or send a DM to reddit admins. Include the link to the DM, admins can see your inbox and providing a direct link is helpful for them to weed out bad actors.
- Step 2: Block the person so they cannot directly contact you again.
- Step 3: Send us a mod mail and let the mod team know. Tell us who they are and what they said, send us a screenshot if you can - admins can see your DMs, mods can't. We'll take action where necessary by banning from the sub if they aren't already banned.

Why don't you people understand it's a package deal?
- Any comment that suggests that OP should have known what they were getting involved with, or that they needed to understand that the kids were part of some package they needed to accept before signing up for marriage is subject to immediate removal.
- This is one of the most insensitive things you can say to a stepparent. Most stepparents were aware of the children, but they were probably not aware of all of the family dynamics.
Why can't you just love them like they are your own?
- Demanding that a stranger you do not know love children that are not biologically theirs as if they were theirs can be incredibly damaging to someone who is already in a vulnerable situation. Any comment that falls along these lines will be removed.
What do you mean by No Trolling? I was just...
- No means no. No trolling. No pretending to be a stepparent and then whipping out the Greatest Hits Bingo Card of The Worst Stepparent in the History of Stepparents. We see you. We've seen you a thousand times.
What does "concern trolling", "gish-galloping", and "sealioning" have to do with stepparenting? This isn't a debate sub, why are you using debate terms?
- That's absolutely right, this isn't a debate sub. And yet, here we are, day after day, having to defend ourselves against this sort of thing. So, enough. No more. Usage of any of these things will get you banned.
What is "Concern Trolling?"
- A concern troll is someone who disingenuously visits sites of an opposing ideology to disrupt conversation by offering unwanted advice on how to solve problems which do not really exist.
- Example Post: OP expresses concern that she will feel, and possibly act, differently towards her stepchildren after her husband decides that no, he doesn't want anymore children after all.
- Example Concern Troll pulled from actual mod mail after their comment was removed: "Possible child abuse claims need to be sorted out well before whatever empathy you believe the OP was looking for."
What is a "Devil's Advocate"?
- "I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but have you considered that maybe BM is just really tired and needs a break, too?" BM has dozens of different mom based subs alone on reddit she can complain on, this sub is for stepparents. The stepparent doesn't need to consider that maybe BM is just really tired and needs a break.
"Gish-galloping?" What does that even mean?
- The Gish Gallop is the fallacious debate tactic of drowning your opponent in a flood of individually-weak arguments in order to prevent rebuttal of the whole argument collection without great effort. The Gish Gallop is a conveyor belt-fed version of the on the spot fallacy, as it's unreasonable for anyone to have a well-composed answer immediately available to every argument present in the Gallop.
And "sealioning?" What's that?
- Sealioning involves jumping into a conversation with endless polite, reasonable questions and demands for answers, usually of entry-level topics far below the actual conversation (e.g. "please prove sexism exists"). This tactic differs little from harassment; instead of discussion, the point is to derail discussion, receive criticism (for their ignorance) so as to look like a victim, or to make someone feel overwhelmed and quit talking.
Who gets to define what is considered asshattery?
- The mod team, of course! If we feel that comments are out of line, are trolling, are leading up to a fight or "just asking questions", we are going to remove them and most likely ban the offender.

What are the general moderator guidelines?

I just watched the "Conservatives Hate Trans People" vid, and I think Steven does a great job picking apart the veneer the far right puts on to hide their hatred of trans people. With that said, I feel like there are even more examples he could've used to make his case even stronger than it already was. Namely, one, all of the policies and rhetoric that the far right uses against trans adults and, two, their reaction to the Nashville shooting.
On the first point, as compelling of a case as Destiny made against the far right's crusade against trans kids going a long way to prove their true and stubborn hatred of trans people, at least on that front, the far right could just say to cover their tracks, "oh well kids aren't old enough or mentally developed enough to make those kinds of decisions or understand being transgender," which I agree with to some extent in that I believe that trans kids should only be given puberty blockers (no HRT or surgeries whatsoever) until they're 18 due to the permanent (or at least very hard to reverse) effects of the other stuff. The far right just goes too far by banning everything, including puberty blockers, despite the objective harm it causes.
When it comes to how they treat trans adults, on the other hand, it's a lot harder for them to hide their true hatred as there's no reason to do things like try to legally define trans people out of existence, force trans people to use the wrong restroom or risk either having to register as a sex offender (as Arkansas attempted to do) or just generally be arrested for daring to make someone mildly uncomfortable for a little bit (the horror! 😱), make it borderline impossible for consenting adults to access gender-affirming care, seek to scapegoat trans people (especially women) for every problem under the Sun, concern troll about "science and biology" whilst holding a belief system that is objectively far less based in science and biology, criminalize drag shows, weaponize Feminism (an ideology they were against like 5 minutes ago) and its rhetoric just to target trans women, advocate Bud Light be investigated by Congress for putting a trans woman on a fucking can of beer, etc. without, A, hating trans people & GNC's and wanting to intentionally be malicious towards or, in some cases, actively inflict harm on people, or B, being legit the dumbest motherfucker on the face of the planet.

I'll try to be as brief as I can but below are the explanations of my current situation & dissatisfaction.
- Sr. Absence:
- Bad communications. There's this one time when I need to build an API endpoint for a form, the Sr. first agreed with my approach before I started working on it but once I'm finished, he said that he does not want it to be that way. So I had to start all over again. To give you an example of how bad our communications are, a simple text on Whatsapp asking for clarification would take him up to a week to get a reply. And that's if you even get one.
- There's no documentations on the web app that I'm working on that was originally built by him. Since the app was poorly designed & built, changing things is already hard. Top it off with his absence & no documentation, I'm amazed that I was able to even understand the codebase.
- Zero guidance / mentoring. I am a self-taught web dev with no degree & this is my first job so I would love to have some mentoring on all things, not just technical things. But again, there's none. Although I probably don't want his advice when it comes to technical stuff ( I will clarify more below ), getting some mentoring on the culture & workflow would be nice. As for now, I merely depended on my co-workers to pickup the company culture & domain knowledge.

- His database design skill is a joke. No normalization. No indexes. And all the columns' datatypes are varchar, even for dates & numbers. To this day, I would actually be surprised if there's a table in our db that actually has a proper data type XD. To top it off, he doesn't use null but empty strings and this has caused me some trouble one time. Last but not least, he doesn't know how to do proper queries with sql. For instance, instead of using joins he would first fetch all the records he needs then loop each record to get the extra details on another table. Classic N+1. Another example would be where he would use loops to aggregate data instead of using sql aggregations. In our web app, there's this one page that is used by our sales team and it would take up to 25 seconds to load. I spent two weeks fixing the database, change his queries but even then I was only able to reduce the load time up to 10 seconds which is still shit. I decided not to make any more changes just because of the time constraint & not wanting to break anything.
- His frontend skills are also a joke. There's no bundler to bundle your static files. Instead of customizing bootstrap with Sass, he just overwrites them with a class & the !important flag. A lot of them to the point trying to write bootstrap in codebase is a pain in the ass. A huge JS file that is only used in certain pages and he puts them in the footer component. There's at least like 100 variables in that file with shitty names & you would have no idea what they are doing unless you are willing to spend days trying to figure it out. No package managers to handle dependencies. In the footer component alone, there's at least 3 bootstrap.js file being pulled from different places.
- No version control. No CICD pipeline. To be more precise, previously he would literally change the source code directly on the server ( windows server with IIS ) with notepad++. There's so many duplicates like header1, header2, headerOld, etc etc. But when I joined I immediately raised this issue saying that it will be hard for me to do my work like this. So I told the Sr. to create a git repo & teach the other Jr. how to use git. Since then, I would do my work on my machine, push it to git then pull it manually to the server.
- His server management skill is also a joke. Right now in the server I am working on has three other web app. Since they all live in the same server, he just made them listen on different ports & asked our staff to use the specific url with the port number behind it instead of using a reverse proxy. This isn't really a huge problem but it still irritates me because a lot of times our staff would come to me asking why they can't access the website because they had the ports wrong. These little things add up quickly.
- UI Design. This is a little bit niche but I received alot of complaints regarding it. He would make four different pages where each page will be responsible for the basic CRUD operations. Navigation is hard because he basically just lumps every pages on the sidebar. Ever since I took over, I've changed the approach where you would have a single page and if you would like to add something, I will just bring up a modal with forms in it. Kind of like SPA but not a full blown SPA written in react or anything. For the state management, I just wrote a DataTable wrapper to handle the state for me where I could crud something without doing a full page reload. Ever since I changed the approach, our staff are now asking that all other parts of the web app to be in similar fashion & it is almost impossible for me to do it with the current codebase & I kind of regretted changing the style LMAO.
- His basic knowledge of security, mainly things like authentication, authorization & validation is lacking. In our web app, there's no authorization done. So if you are just a basic user but you know the URL to some parts of the web app that you weren't supposed to see, you can open them. He just hides the links on the sidebar. But no authorization done on the backend. Same goes to validation. Like I said, he didn't even normalize the database, so on things like a dropdown, if you change the value with inspect element the data will actually be saved without any errors whatsoever.
- Last but not least, his way of building things is just flawed. For instance, there's a web app that was built by him and currently being maintained by the other junior & himself. In the web app, there's a file input where the user can upload an image & the requirements is that the image must be shown underneath the input before the user submits the form. Instead of using a simple vanilla JS to do it, he first creates an entry in the database for that form with empty details on page load. Once the user select an image, he uploads the images behind the scenes to the server and set the image src once it is uploaded. But if the user decided to not submit the form, it will not remove the uploaded image & and the empty form entry. One of the major complains I heard from the junior is when he needs to pull reports for the management. For instance if he wants to know how many people have submitted the form, he will have to fetch all the form entries, look at the uploaded path for each form entry & make sure it is not empty.
- Work Environment:
- Right now I am basically doing 1.5 job since my boss refused to replace the vacant technical support for the next three months.
- No proper dev environments. If the operations want something, they will email me saying they want this & that, and I should get it done. No agile, no testing, no bug tracker. The only bug tracker we have is our internal staff when they ran into problems XD.
- The preference of our boss towards the Sr.. For instance, the web app that I'm working on is super slow ( due to the problems I described above ) but when I try to explain to my boss that it was because of how it was developed initially by the Sr. he just brushes me off & says "There's no way it is because of that. You don't know what you are talking about. It is now your responsibility so you should go and fix it". Like I said, just to improve the single page for my sales team alone took almost two weeks, so trying to fix everything isn't feasible unless I am able to stop request from all of the staff for several months where I will rewrite the whole thing from scratch. From what I heard from other staff, back when the Sr. was here in the office he would told them that performance is slow due to lack of db storage & server's ram. I can assure you it is not LMAO.
- Sr. refusing to listen to our inputs. For instance, there's this one time where we have one single form that could have at least 12 different 'types'. Each type will contain multiple different fields ( a total of 32 distinct field ) so I decided to store the details for each type in a single JSON column. This way, validation & storing the data is easy. Even trying to query based on the value inside the JSON is easy with MySQL. But he outright rejects me with NO reason ( I asked him to explain why it's not suitable and he couldn't say anything ) and says that each field will need their own column. After two weeks of arguing, he finally concedes and asked me to continue LOL.

We just got back, Italy is magical. Only been to Rome once before as part of Europe hopping trip about 10 years ago. Some thoughts and tricks on our 10 nights, hope it's helpful for others:
Weather: Don't stress too much on forecasts even a week out. Check before leaving and adjust wardrobe or add a light rain jacket if needed. Originally our entire trip showed rain the whole time. Realistically there was a 1 drizzly day in Venice and 2 hour of rain (ominous with thunder) in Florence. The rest of the time was cloudy or beautiful and clear. Cinque Terre was absolutely clear and 70, but dang that sun when hiking was brutally hot. App: Il Meteo
Download WhatsApp - everyone including hotels, restaurants, business, taxi driver (see below) uses it.
Esim: Airalo worked well for us Samsung S22 and Pixel 6. Did have to reboot my S22, but worked really well and between the 2 of us used about 5GB so couldn't gone with less data. One phone did the Europe regional and another the Italy Mamma Mia one. Some restaurants do have dead zones, some have Wifi, another was like these signs on the wall are your wifi....
Driving: You definitely need a car for Tuscany if you want to be on your own timetable, we rented out of Florence and returned in La Spezia. Beware some of the routes on Google Maps, although reliable there were 2 instances we went off roading when an asphalt road was right there. Then we needed to u-turn on the outskirts of Pisa and it was trying to get us to make this impossible stone walled turn and the locals were like yeah Google Maps has people do this and no one has made that so just turn back around. Also lesson learned for us - just do the rental company insurance, event though my credit card offers primary, we got a larger mid size SUV vs Fiat 500 and with the narrow streets, for me the reduced stress would've been worth it when we had to wiggle the car out some spots - but we came out scratch free. On a side note, we got a Lynk & Co car, which was neat and loved Android Auto as we use it at home. Rented thru Hertz. If you use the toll roads (which can make your life a lot faster sometime), make sure you grab a ticket coming in, we didn't get one for 1 segment, luckily getting off of it, the remote attendant spoke english, a little annoyed, but let us pay the fare from where we came from.
Parking: The meters we encountered in Montepulciano, Siena, Pisa seemed straight forward but sometimes card wouldn't work, the english translation was bad and cancelled out transaction multiple times. Just download EasyPark which seems to work everywhere, GPS your zone, link to GooglePay or credit card, license and boom, spin the clock - small fee less than 10%, but damn was it easy and you can add time or end early....
Trains: Download Trenitalia app, book any train instantly, get train status (where is the train currently), and see any station's timetable. Our Venice to Florence train did get delayed and stopped here and there in Bologna one weekend due to the flood damage, luckily our train wasn't cancelled. 5 days later, all trains seems to be back on track. Missed the big 5/26 strike by one day but I was seeing some trains via the app still scheduled. Basically be mentally prepared for any issues, booked an InterCity (assigned seats) from La Spezia to Pisa ahead of time but day of just waited to see when to schedule the regional from Pisa to Florence, so easy via app and you can see how often they run (30 mins for this route) and buy on demand as your schedule permits.
Booking museums/sights: It can be very tricky to google and find official booking sites as there are a lot of 3rd parties who want to get you a "front of the line pass" with a tour for a large markup. So I tried to book thru official sites as much as I can, for the life of us we couldn't get the Doges official to go through so did get those from Get the Guide for less than 5 euro markup for 2. If you are flexible and go off hours, you can do standby and avoid the nominal online booking fee and time spot, we only did these for some, not all. Maybe don't listen to me during summer months. But we did very little waiting - see below
Food: Note that I found classic italian cooking is much more simple, subtle and just pure flavors. Stuff was beautiful but by California standards, a tad underseasoned although some places did put out salt and pepper (default not request) for some dishes like a burrata. This is also coming from here in SoCal where birria is not enough it's birria ramen and hot cheetos encrusted this or that and 5 different types of toppings for mac and cheese - you know stuff for Instagram.... But I totally appreciated the approach and loved it.
Cities - we tend to do a lot on vacation, it may have been a touch quick but it was so fun, we did get a bit sick just with all the weather and change but nothing serious but was glad to get the downtime in Tuscany, we hit it hard first 2 places Venice and Florence. You may vacation differently, this was also our first trip abroad in 7 or so years so wanted to see ALLTHETHINGS.
Accommodations - We did mostly Airbnb which in Europe requires a meetup vs self check in. Did an incredible bed and breakfast (see Montepulciano) and finally a hotel in Florence for last night which I highly recommend for location and service - Arte Boutique (they helped me track down a lost backpack in a taxi, see below).
Safety - felt pretty safe and not scammy in all of our cities our Airbnb host in Florence said Italy overall is safe but he did confirm Rome you need to be more aware. Honestly we only carried 350 euro with us from US bank and that was plenty, near the end we were needing to use it up as everyone takes card, tap to pay, ApplePay and GooglePay freely. Taxi drivers do prefer cash
Staying calm story - we were ending our trip from Florence to airport in in my rush I left my backpack in backseat of taxi, it was gone before I realized we had our rollers and his backpack and duffel but not mine. Luckily my husband was like ok we will call the hotel (the only one we happened to book) who arranged the taxi, and luckily they tracked him down and he came back due to us allotting tons of time before departure. I had to pay the fare again for the backpack fare but was so relieved. We corresponded via WhatsApp after making the initial call to hotel.
Venice: 2 nights
- Sights: Doges (booked via Get the Guide) was cool, not the biggest museum person. Walk over Bridge of Sighs was uneventful from inside. St Mark Basilica had no advance tickets, but did standby for 3 eupp about 20 min before opening and got in within 10 mins, then hopped over to Campanile Tower w/o tickets, no line around 9-9:30 AM - great views.
- Eat: Faves were the quick bites chichetti (All'Arco, Cantina Do Spade), coffee and pastries and gelato (loved Suso). Our sit downs were not bad, just not mind blowing at Ai Mercanti and Imprompta (although seafood good). Also there's a small bar inside Cafe Florian if you want a macchiato for under 5 euro vs sitting down for a 12 euro cappucino and want a mini experience w/o wait.
It can be crowded mid-day but will calm down, very cool to walk or take vaparetto around and get lost, oops this alley dumps into a canal....
Florence: 2 nights
- Sights: Prebooked Galleria Accademia (a must, always a line), good museum experience if you don't necessarily need hours, so neat to see David here. Because not huge museum people, passed on the Uffuzi. Someone at lunch said hey Medici is cool, so did that on a whim w/o any wait and very cool, glad we did it on the fly. Prebooked Boboli Gardens, kinda tired by the time we got here and it had been drizzly and a bit humid, but nice to stroll. The larger fountain area you can't walk through anymore (Ocean fountain?). Also Piazza Michaelangelo for the Florence city center view. Lots of great shopping here, suggest start at Vale for a leather shop.
- Food: Ok so All Antico Vinaio although touristy is legit sandwich, very good and worth it. Tip: go to San Marco location, smaller wait by Galleria Accademia. GustaPizza was legit and very reasonable 7 euro for Margherita?! Fave gelato was Gelato Dei Neri and My Sugar. Mercato Centrale super cool to walk, shop for products, eat if you like. Trattoria Mario, email ahead for reservations - 1.1 kg florentine steak with small sides and salami/cheese plate all for under $70. Dall'Oste was good florentine but much pricier and touristy but had a good Montalcino wine there, book on website for discount for seatings outside of peak times, our 6 PM had 15% discount on food.
Tuscany: 2 nights Montepulciano, 1 night Siena
So beautiful, just the drive through Val D'Orcia. We stopped by San Gimignano and did the tower with no wait (150 stairs), Gelateria Donderia is overrated but fine, GO GO GO to Da'A'Mariani for sandwich here, sweet sweet man and just off the main street - recommended by Pasticcheria Il Criollo which was fabulous just outside city wall.
Stayed in Montepulciano, which was SO fabulous. Our true bed and breakfast was only 3 suites run on a property by 2 americans who moved to Italy - true hospitality and modern yet italian suite. They are booked solid this year, but it was sooo special. Huge breakfast spread every morning. It was true paradise there and the owners are gems - made awesome restaurant recommendations and reservations, driving route, etc. DM me if you want the name but don't bet on getting in for 2023. Restaurants in Montepulciano were Osteria Porto Di Baccio - great antipasto meat/cheese and pici, great typical osteria in wine cave then Le Logge Vignola which was very creative for a very reasonable price - you definitely need reservations for both maybe a few days ahead as both are fully booked by dinner. Gelato recc here would be Scarbia.
Siena - had the Siena OPA Si pass which I recommend, everything except the roof tour. Cathedral inside is a sight to see and includes works by Michaelangelo and Dontatello - ask worker where they are at, definitely do panaroma. Cinque Terre: 2 nights Riomaggiore

Stayed in Riomaggiore, CT is definitely touristy during the day but quiets down. Rick Steves was right, not overhyped. Every city is absolutely gorgeous. Did the hike from Monterosso-Vernazza-Corniglia - yes the HARD way with those stairs first leg but it was very rewarding and fun, can be tight in spots, started at 8 AM and ended in Corniglia around 11:15, start early as you can for less crowds. Train makes it easy to hop towns. Dinners included Rio Bistrot in Riomaggiore (checked in at lunch for dinner reservation same night) and Ristorante Belforte - both great views and suprisingly great food! Tasting menu is way to go at Rio Bistrot. Quick bites include fried seafood, so good. Be prepared for all the elevation/stairs/walking.

I have had CRPS for almost 6 years - it will be 6 years in August 2023. I used to be really into fitness, crossfit and running mostly. One day I went for a casual walk with my expensive blue tooth headphones and it started to rain. So I ran as hard and as fast as I could to get home, so my headphones wouldn't get ruined. I ran downhill and messed up my foot - I think it was already a bit dodgy, I was in my 40's and a "heavy" walker, and 3 days later I started experiencing the symptoms of sesamoiditis.
The sesamoiditis started in August 2017, and by January 2018, it turned into CRPS. I had the swelling and my foot turned black. So here I am now, just over 5 years later, and what has changed? I used to work. I was a VP in software engineering. I kept working when I was diagnosed, I kept working while I tried many different medications, I kept working as I gained weight, got even more depressed, developed alcohol dependency issues, et.
I've stopped working now, about 8 months ago. I've trialled many medications, and ended up on opiates. The medications I've tried - gabapentin & lyrica, clonidine. Low dose naltrexone, CBD/THC and now opiates. I think the LDN worked quite well, but unfortunately wasn't good enough for winter. In winter, the pain ramps up massively, and I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. When you put massive pain and SAD together, well it's not a great combination. Last winter I tried to commit suicide.
So here I am. It's winter again. I'm on opiates. I'm not working. My self-esteem is in the toilet. Luckily I don't have money struggles, and I know that makes me super extra lucky, and I try really hard to be grateful but still, I'm struggling. I've lost all the weight. I've stopped drinking. I'm investing time and energy into music. I provide singing lessons for kids, and volunteer at a children's musical theatre group.
But I'm still so sad!!! I'm so tired. No-one can help me or understand what I'm going through. I can't go to my husband. He really wanted to help me but he's tired too and I can't load him with everything I"m thinking and feeling. Now that I'm not working, I'm keeping things going at home, doing the cooking, the laundry, organising all the stuff that needs to be organised (garden services, insurance updates, etc) but I still feel like I'm a big nothing. I'm not interesting, I'm not contributing (aside from an insurance payout), I'm just a big nothing. And I'm tired, and I feel like no-one really understands.
And now there's a possibility of moving cities. I'm just so exhausted and I don't know what to do. I'm not asking for help here, just venting. I needed to get all of this out. Thank-you if you read this far.

 | I 35 y/o (f) moved into a 5-bedroom house in 2019. I live in a PNW city where it's impossible to rent a home with a backyard while on a single income, so most people have roommates. We have a great deal, as the landlord offers us pretty great rates on the condition that we manage the upkeep of the house and yard. submitted by Hautebiteschef to AITAH [link] [comments] I live in the garden-level family room that I converted into a living/work-from-home space with my 11-year-old dog who is a certified working canine and 2 mini-dogs. All are well-behaved and utilize the dog door from the garage to the outside. There is a guest room down here as well and I pay the most rent, while the three others upstairs pay between 610 -780 a month. I also manage most repairs, do most of the yard work, shoveling/ de-icing, deep-cleaning, purchase shared goods (toilet paper, soap, etc.), and utilities are under my name. Most tools, kitchen utensils, furniture, and upgrades are from me. I never bring any of this up and work in the background. In 2021 my three roommates wanted to be mobile nomads and moved out. I had to find 3 new roommates. 2 are down-to-earth males and 1 was a seemingly high-energy 29-year-old (f). Let's call her “Tanya”. We had a lot in common and I totally thought I won the roommate lottery. Boy was I wrong, seems like I must walk on eggshells or Tanya becomes a non-empathetic, passive-aggressive, cold & mean person just because of her own assumptions. Like her making up a person's intentions without even talking to them. She also loves drama and complaining about others. I realize my empathetic personality and her blunt personality might be the cause of our friction. I always think about what someone might be going through before judging/reacting to their foul behavior. She thinks that this trait of mine means I'm a non-genuine person and all empathetic people have ulterior intentions. I have 3+ brothers and raised them, caring for others is just who I am and I don't want anything in return. However, whenever she needs anything she comes running to me and I always am there for her with no strings attached. Anyways, last year when I had massive surgery in May, Tanya was upset I hadn't mowed the lawn during recovery. She cited that if the roommates wanted to chill outside they couldn't because the grass was too tall and she was afraid of stepping in dog poop. I had already hired a company to pick up after the dogs and found someone to mow the lawn. I mentioned that her concern is valid and that she agreed to help out with upkeep outside before signing the lease and that I would need help after the yard services came in. I’d been doing most of the work because when I did ask for help from others they would agree to help but it never happened. So she basically told me she felt all of outside should be my responsibility because of the dogs. I've tried reiterating that she agreed to non-dog-related yard work, but she would talk louder and make accusations. Can't have a chill convo with her. Now a year later, I was laid off from big tech layoffs and saw an opportunity to improve our yard. I got the landlord's blessing to update landscaping so we have a nice firepit/projector patio area in the back that would be low maintenance. I shared plans with roomies and went hard on removing blackberry bushes (thorny vines 20 ft high), deep weeds, laying down grass seed, and laying down a lighted tiled path to the fire pit. I added string light to the back area. The roomie's windows are on the 2nd story and face west, while the lights are south of the house. I sent a few pics to roomies asking if they had ideas if they liked lights, and if they wanted me to change anything. I remembered we had a pallet in the back and created a raised garden in front. Summers are so nice here and we have Adirondack chairs out front so I added a few hanging lights on the fence behind the garden so could see any critters eating from the garden and to add ambiance. I again asked them their thoughts after sending pics and telling them to please help themselves to the garden and that I left some space for them to plant anything they wish. I made sure that I respected the privacy of Tanya, and that the lights are only on the fence below her window. She wasn't home so I asked her in a text to let me know her thoughts and to please let me know if she has ideas or wants to change anything up. No response. Now, these roommates are usually out and about when I work from home. They are rarely home and when they are they typically stay in their rooms. She told me that I needed to ask her permission before making any updates to the backyard. That I should have asked permission before putting up the lights and the garden. She said she understood that my intentions are to make the back yard look better, butI shouldn’t be making a bid deal on yard work (the text asking their thought) since I should be responsible for work on the backyard since “my dogs need the space. I reminded her why her rent is cheap and what she agreed to but that while making improvements for everyone; I’ve been keeping them involved. She continued with the theory that I should have asked for permission before making updates. I left it at the fact that I asked if she wants anything changed and she hasn’t told me what changes she wishes for me to make. She has been cruel and passively aggressive since then. I left for a quick four-day trip with my senior husky and paid a sitter to stay at the house in my room with the two mini huskies. To keep an eye on them while Tanya and I were on bad terms, also since they need love ( not just food and water). Well, the sitter went out for a quick Mother's day dinner and when Tanya came back (20 minutes after the sitter left), she entered the house through the garage. It was odd, she always goes through the front yard gate to the front door. Well, she left the garage door open and the two pups ran away. Neighbors called, and when I tried contacting our house group Chat to ask if the pups were safe and the garage was down, I received no answer. I then sent a text saying “Neighbors called me & said they were having hard time getting them”, Tanya responded cold, short and argumentative. She does passive-aggressive things consistently and I think she may have left the garage open on purpose. Anyways, it's been a month since and today I caught her on ring camera talking crap about the garden and lights with some random friend of hers. Real mean girl vibes. Tanya continues to hold resentment, is doing passive-aggressive stuff around the house, & is mean to the pups (which she has a hate/love relationship with them when it suits her). So AITA for putting up a garden and string lights on the house I live in and managing for the landlord? |
