2023.05.28 15:14 slowdorisVR Long termer refocus group
I'm two years post op, had a bit of regain but still 110lbs down but I've been noticing drifting habits.
I'm having a refocus and wondered if there's anyone else who would like to form a little support group, communicating via discord (posts rather than voice predominately)?
The plan would be that I'll facilitate a weekly topic /theme, focusing on knowledge and habits.
My philosophy is one of focusing on food quality rather than calorie counting or demonising certain macro nutrients (which largely translates as a varied diet that avoids ultra processed foods without calorie tracking), believing that what I put in my mouth is more important than exercise (though recognising the secondary benefits of exercise to physical and mental health) and wanting to understand the latest science of appetite and obesity. So the type of things I'm focused on will fit in with that approach.
Anyway if you're interested let me know, you don't have to be 2 years post op but should be very much out of the initial post op and weight loss phase and into maintenence and normal food.

2023.05.28 15:14 itsrainingchan Ex (23m) keeps liking my (23f) insta stories
Hi! I (24f) just recently broke up with my ex (23m) 2 months ago. After we broke up, though I agreed to be his friend; I didn't expect the relationship to go platonic so soon that very same night, where he'd start talking to me casually. Updating, asking me to look over videos for his school, etc. Anyways, after a month of this casual talking, I asked him to just stop talking to me because it was getting kinda painful to keep up the pretense of whatever that was. He asked if we could set a date to talk though, so I said sure, which is when he graduates in July.
Now though, he likes ALL my ig stories, consistently in a row, and it just confuses me because I don't know what it means.
Tbh, we didn't break up over something toxic (it was conflicting schedules) which is why maybe there's a part me that's holding on. I just don't know where to go from here.
tl;dr: ex keeps liking my insta stories after i suggested no contact.

2023.05.28 15:10 linkenski [TotK] The thing that doesn't cut it for me, with Open Air storytelling
The lack of monomythic structure.
I'm not disputing non-linearity when I say that games since ALttP and prior to BotW were structured as they were for a reason. But they had what BotW and TotK don't: The narrative structure of a Hero's Journey.
They build out a story from the tutorial area and first dungeon as their inciting incident. A bit of prologue to set up the world, good guys and bad guys and a goal, the call to adventure.
Next, they use the player's freedom to tell us the part of a story when you progress from relative normality into challenge, as obstacles block what must be done to achieve the goal, challenging Link as the protagonist, or rather you.
Then, in the Abyss of Death and Rebirth Agahnim shows up to cast your presumputous award into doubt as he opens the gates to the Dark World and throws Link along into it. Or maybe, Zant shows up and hurts Midna, causing Zelda to sacrifice herself. Or maybe, you do rescue your sister, Aryll, but Ganondorf reveals his larger plot, and the King of Red Lions decides to throw "destiny" upon Link once again. No matter which, they moved the goal posts and brings about changes in the game's world and the player's objectives as they reach their coming of transformation.
In the transformative act 2, the player grows into a darker world, and darker themes. Here the challenges are not just practical but mental. Link must accept that he is now an adult in a darkened world, or that there is a dark world, or that farmboy-life must be put off even longer because the Twilight interferences are here to stay until we do something! In this part of a Zelda game the dungeons typically shifted in tone. The side quest narratives became more "real" and you, the player, enter more mechanically complicated dungeons. Ocarina of Time introduces man made temples with small keys opening doors. ALttP had warping between two world to find the entrances. Wind Waker turned their final dungeons into co-op escort events where Link had to not only explore the dungeon, but protect an important sage.
It all leads into the final 3rd act, in a confrontation, typically with Ganondorf, where the gift of the goddess is bestowed by Zelda to Link, and Link uses his learned experience to seal away evil, and complete the true objective. You, the player, use your own experience and acquired items to go through Ganon's tower and fight a final series of bosses, to witness the culmination of the plot.
Breath of the Wild and TotK don't do this. They start you with a brief mystery prologue that sets up a main goal. Then they let you do anything and even if try to emulate the past structure through the freedom, by basically following game hints that tell you where to go first, you end up with a much more shortlived and basic narrative.
The entirety of BotW is basically "Free the Divine Beasts" and the entirety of TotK is "Find Zelda. Where could she be?"
There is no turning point in these stories that ramp up the stakes from their early premise. They start one way, and stay one way, and then the ending suddenly happens.
It's hard to fault Nintendo for this. I understand that this is the tradeoff to having an unpredictable player behavior. You have to make the story flexible, and make the player feel like nothing is caused by a linear decision by developers.
There is nothing "wrong" about not using monomyth, but I think that a lot of people are picking up on there being a lack of "something" in Open Air Zelda, and I would propose that this is the real thing that is missing.
Dungeons are disappoining, yes. They tried to make them seamless with no loading between rooms, and they probably valued the content of the open world over individual dungeons, so something had to give, yes. But I think the fact that there are just 4 dungeons that don't lead to a narrative twist, into a second half, is enough to punctuate the narrative in these games, by removing its sense of emotional cadence. Everything is flatlined, and all you do is pick from a narrative buffet, and then go to the climax when you prefer. It feels like something is missing, doesn't it?
TL;DR: Past Zeldas used the structure of dungeons to balance player freedom with narrative inevitability, providing a sense of you going through a real Hero's Journey Monomyth. The last two games are instead flatly mapped, and the monomyth doesn't exist within its structure main missions, so when you end the game, it may be somewhat epic, but you don't feel like you went through the transformative hero-adventure "sword in the stone" style, when you beat the game. The problems of storytelling in BotW/TotK is not writing or the fact that it's memories. It's in the fact that the active story of the player's own adventure is not mapped to an inevitable hero's journey.

2023.05.28 15:04 Some_Lifeguard_4394 Why are Vayne players so clueless?
So correct me if I am wrong, but onhit Vayne was ''killed'' back in 13.6, to my knowledge everyone was building crit and it was pretty good. But then 13.10 changes hit, and suddenly Vayne is the weakest adc beacuse ''everyone'' builds Rageblade. Why? 13.10 Did not revert the 13.6 changes, arguably it made Guinsoo's even worse beacuse the doubleonhit every third is hidded behind 4 initial autos. And the crit convert makes literally 0 sense for us, Vayne wants to build high ad beacuse she throws a Draven axe at you while also being invis for a second every 2 seconds, even her ult gives ad so there is not a single reason to deny yourself the crit. The only advantage of onhit I can see is that u can build wits end
Vayne primary damage source is her q plus r, not her w, so why prioritize w in her builds and then complain how weak she is?
also isn't Galeforce underated? When compared to IE basically 35% Crit damage vs second flash on half cd and a huge execute damage, getting a long range gapcloser as vayne sounds op af when you dont have to give up old sb/old kraken
tldr, Guinsoo is poopoo, why do people build it then complain?

2023.05.28 15:00 un34vigilant [Rambo franchise] John Rambo was a MACV-SOG Operator.
While the movies never explicitly tell this to us, I believe that Rambo was MACV-SOG Operator due to numerous reasons, reasons such as:
- MACV-SOG operators would go deep behind enemy lines for their missions (something that Trautman said Rambo did)
- The force was above top secret, its existence was denied by the US government for over 20 years, even families of MACV-SOG members were not informed if their loved ones were killed in action (Rambo is used to this kind of stuff)
- MACV-SOG were often placed in positions were the enemy outnumbered them over on thousand to one (Rambo is used to go on missions were he's heavily outnumbered)
- MACV-SOG special forces were trained to be 'invisible' in 'enemy territory', thus avoiding firefights against outnumbering enemies (Exactly like Rambo)
- OP-35, the ‘Ground Studies’ group of MACV-SOG, undertook hundreds of cross-border operations between 1966 and 1972 (time Rambo was in duty).
- It is believed that OP-35 had a force of up to 2,500 US personnel and 8,000 indigenous troops, segmented into smaller teams as small as 6 to 10 men (Rambo's baker team was composed of 8 men excluding Trautman)
- These tended to include a mixture of US Green Berets, specialised in unconventional warfare, as well as local warfighters. (Rambo is a Green Beret)
- Some MACV-SOG operators actually used Bows and Arrows in their missions (Just like Rambo uses)
- They also used Bowie knives (Again just like Rambo)
- MACV-SOG operators have the highest kill ratio in United States military history (Rambo has one of the highest kill counts in cinema's history)
- Rambo's mission in First Blood Part II was a covert reconnaissance mission (One of the MACV-SOG operators specialities)
While we never had a fullblow corfirmation in the films (
only in COD), it was probably due to the fact that MACV-SOG was only declassified in the 90's and Rambo's first 3 movies were made in 80's and he was not doing military missions in the last 2 movies anymore. Since the existence of Macv Sog still was a secret in the 80's, Rambo and Trautman probably never openly spoke about it, to maintain its secrecy.

2023.05.28 14:57 Limecrew415 Path to Qualifying for FE
Looking for some advise on whether there is a path for me to qualify for the FE without additional schooling. Hoping to move into a geotechnical engineering role with my current company but they require you to be an EIT for the position. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
To provide background for my undergraduate I double majored in physics and geology. Then proceeded to get a masters in geophysics, then straight into PhD school were I was co-advised in both the geology and civil engineering departments with a focus on engineering geology specifically landslide repair and susceptibility analysis. I have multiple publications in both engineering and geology journals and was a TA primarily in the civil engineering department. However the issue is when I graduated my degree was awarded through the school of arts and sciences and not engineering.
Since then I have been working in geotechnical consulting for 2 years but have been unable to worked on many projects which are closer to what my PhD focused on because I am designated as a geologist and not an engineer. Bought and taken a few FE practice exams and feel confident I would have a chance at passing if I could qualify. Any advice on a pathway to qualification would be greatly appreciated!

2023.05.28 14:53 domotime2 I have opportunity to become bar manager. Should I do it?
I've heard from many saying that managing is a fools game, you'll probably end up making less but working more, etc. But is that true,?
I've been bartending for about a decade now and have been in my current spot for about 2.5 years. Currently I work at 2 spots where I've essentially carved out 1000/1400 a week every week. It's exhausting as its 2 doubles in a row (but im off Monday-Wednesday). I'm really tired of the doubles but I really feel like I've done well carving out a little schedule using the best of all the better shifts of a week to its full potential.
I was gonna switch some things around though and my Gm asked people (me) if I'd want to fill the empty bar manager role. He said he's working out the details as it'd be a hybrid role where I still bartend twice but of course it would be full time (5 days a week). What kind of money should I expect/ask? Is it worth it? Its gonna be a pay decrease overall but it would he consistent. Benefits. And id love to put it on a resume going forward. One day I wanna open up a place and the experience might be helpful?
Idk. Insight. Advice,?

2023.05.28 14:51 disciplesglobal DISCIPLES AND TRIBULATION
The New Testament exhorts followers of Jesus to expect tribulation because of their faith. While it may not be an everyday experience in the life of the church, neither is tribulation for the kingdom unexpected. And the chief cause of tribulation and persecution in the life of the disciple is his or her faithful witness of the life and teachings of Christ.
And this understanding is especially prominent in the Book of
Revelation. In Chapter 7, for example, John saw countless followers of the “
Lamb” exiting the “
great tribulation” after persevering through it.
This striking image is central to his vision of the “
innumerable multitude” comprised of men purchased from every nation by the lifeblood of Jesus. Having “
overcome” in every trial and tribulation, they stand triumphantly before the “
Lamb” and the “
throne” in “
New Jerusalem.”
At the beginning of the book, John identifies himself as a “
fellow participant” with the churches of Asia “
in THE tribulation and kingdom and endurance.” In his exile on the isle of Patmos - “
for the testimony of Jesus” - he participated in the same “
tribulation” endured by the “
seven churches of Asia.”
THE TRIBULATION
The term “
tribulation” occurs five times in
Revelation. Each time it is used
in relation to believers. In other words, “
tribulation” is what followers of the “
Lamb” experience. And elsewhere in the New Testament, the word is applied to what the followers of Jesus undergo for his sake - (Matthew 13:21, John 16:33, Revelation 1:9, 2:9-10, 7:14).
In the Greek text of John’s declaration,
ONE definite article or “the” modifies all three nouns -
Tribulation, Kingdom, Endurance. Each term represents an aspect of the same reality. It is
THE tribulation; namely, the same one out of which the “
innumerable multitude” came and stood before the Lord.
To live faithfully “
in Jesus” results in “
tribulation” for his kingdom. And to suffer for him is what it means to
reign with Christ. The Greek term rendered “
endurance” in John’s statement, or
hupomoné, occurs six more times in the book, and it is always linked to believers who persevere in persecution - (Revelation 2:2-3, 2:19, 3:10, 13:10, 14:12-13). And
PERSEVERANCE is how they “
overcome” and inherit the promises found at the end of each of the letters to the “
seven churches.”
In
Revelation, the “
Dragon” and his earthly vassals wage unrelenting war against the “
saints,” not with nations or governments. The object of Satan’s wrath is the church – “
those who have the testimony of Jesus” - (Revelation 12:17, 13:7-10).
FAITHFUL UNTIL DEATH
The “
Lamb” who was slain to redeem his people now summons his “
saints…to be faithful even unto death,” not only in the city of Smyrna but all believers throughout the period between Christ’s death and his return are called to persevere.
His followers must remain steadfast in trials, even when doing so may mean their violent deaths. And just like their Lord, it is FAITHFULNESS IN TRIBULATION that results in their receipt of the “crown of life.”
And faithful saints endure the “
GREAT TRIBULATION,” the period during which the followers of the “
Lamb” are tried to the max, but they overcome the “
Beast from the Sea” and the “
Dragon” by their faithful “
testimony.”
And after persevering through “
tribulation,” the saints will find themselves “
standing before the Throne and the Lamb” in the New Creation, in “
New Jerusalem” - (Revelation 7:9-17).
In contrast to persevering saints, the unrepentant “
inhabitants of the earth” undergo “
wrath” - the “
Second Death” in the “
Lake of Fire.” And “
wrath” refers to the punitive sentence of God on His enemies, and nowhere in the book is it equated with “
tribulation.”
Thus, the “
churches of Asia” endure “
tribulation,” but they do not undergo the divine “
wrath.” That is reserved for the enemies of the “
Lamb” that afflict his people, and it will be meted out at the “
great white throne of judgment.”
Those who would follow Jesus “
wherever he goes” overcome the “
Dragon by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and because they love not their lives EVEN UNTO DEATH.” They remain faithful in their testimony even at the cost of their own lives - (Revelation 12:11).

2023.05.28 14:47 hellraiser97 Help me choose how to break into IT, AGAIN. DevOps vs Data Engineering (Big Data), WhatToDo.jpg?
I'm going to try to keep it short:
Engineering grad, Worked as an L3 SQL Server DBA @ a Witch Org for 2.5 years (PHYSICAL DBA, NO REAL LOGICAL WORK INVOLVED MOST OF THE TIME), tried to venture into full stack development (MERN), got into a SaaS startup during the early 2022, did not REALLY enjoy the work, so quit then and there. Figured out that I am someone who do not really enjoys coding, LOL.
Got Covid and some really nasty complications in the following months, was bedridden at a hospital. So, no work for almost 13 months.
Got myself back up again, started to learn DevOps: Linux, Git, Github, AWS, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, got some hands on experience on a couple of projects which I made from scratch by myself. I have a DevOps offer from a small startup, which I need to respond to in a month's time or so. I AM STILL APPLYING FOR JOBS IN THIS MARKET. Anyhoo, I also freelanced and dabbled with AWS for a bit (February 2023 to now).
The other thing I have seen trending in the field of IT is: Data related jobs. Big Data / Data Engineering caught my attention. Given my background as a DBA, researching on DE related topics, I found DE interesting. Although, as I said earlier, I am not a good coder, but I know how to handle the infrastructure side of things WELL (that's what I think given my experience). Signed up on a cheap Bootcamp to learn data engineering as well, the classes will start in a week or so's time.
Should I venture into learning big data / data engineering? Is it a coding intensive field as such? Honestly, I don't care a lot for the job I do, I want to enjoy things (while keeping a good work life balance) and make a bank in the longer run, lol.
Thanks in advance for your insights!

I've assembled a first device that met my standards today. I'll be making small refinements to the enclosure and will begin shipping first prototypes to the beta crew. I expect the packages to ship in about a month, after I come back from FlutterCon.If all goes well I'd be reaching out to all the people who supported this project in the last 18 months; they made it happen and want them to have priority.Once again, If all goes well the "retail" units will be available to order this summer. I have not ordered the Compute Modules yet and I am stalling until the hardware is tested. I am not doing any kickstarters, the public store will open when most of the cases would be manufactured and the electronics would have a estimated delivery date.

- Compute Module 4 with 4GB of RAM + external Wi-Fi antenna (no more connectivity problems in cars prior to 2021)
- PWM temperature based cooling
- CarPlay module integrated internally, with proper cooper radiators and ventilation to ensure the best stability
- Global LTE Modem integrated internally, configuration and management will be integrated with Tesla Android
- 1 full size HDMI port for 2nd row entertainment
- Two additional USB ports for expansion (2.0, good for controllers, capture cards, cameras and other stuff)
- One gigabit ethernet port
- 1 PCIE slot for NVME, retrofitting Wi-Fi 6 network interfaces. Not used currently
Take a look on the prototype, I love how it turned out:
https://twitter.com/teslaandroid/status/1662789434868211713?s=61&t=SUJAP13rFUONtk7BMbikfw There is only one thing that might delay the first deliveries, CM4s. There is a backup plan with another SBC but I have not pulled the trigger on it yet. The B2B availability of all those boards is improving, especially for bulk orders.PS: The housing is so nice that it exceeded my expectations to the point that I am considering making it available for the regular PI 4 users. It will be like 1cm deeper but most of the features would be the same(modem and carplay internally, very good pwm cooler and no visible wires). This would be a nice upgrade for people who want the best experience possible and do not have any other use cases for their existing board s(PiHole, Homeassistant, VPN gateway, Octoprint etc)
Let's use this post to start a Q&A. I am happy to answer all of your questions. There is also a thread in the Slack group for those interested in a more detailed discussion
