We went through several loads over the next few days trying to balance out the loads to see what the issue was, and ultimately it wound up developing a burning rubber smell, which I can only assume was the belt burning from how violently the drum was moving side to side. Completely fed up with this whole ordeal, I contacted maytag direct to return the machine under their 45 day no questions asked return policy. I wound up telling them about the issues we were having and how disappointed we were and we just wanted it out of the house before it wound up causing another problem. They flat out refused to accept the return. Said it now moved into "safety hazard" territory because of the burning smell and that they best they could do is send out a tech to verify something had caught fire. I spent the next 3 phone calls arguing that if it was in fact now a safety hazard that should be even more of a reason that I should be able to return the appliance. I didn't even care about the taxes or install fees. Nope, no one would budge. Wound up opening a dispute with affirm for the 12mo interest free loan we took for it, and I see this ultimately going to small claims court if they refuse to take the appliance back. Needless to say I am totally and completely done with maytag/whirlpool forever.
