Testing only!! A&H SQ5 w/ Waves Soundgrid vs. Live Professor and Mac Studio
2023.03.24 07:44 jonjonh69 Testing only!! A&H SQ5 w/ Waves Soundgrid vs. Live Professor and Mac Studio
Hey y’all. I just wanted to report that I created a session with very similar plug-ins on both setups. With new Mac M2’s coming out (and being hyped like crazy) I wanted to run some tests and see if native processing is anywhere close to useable yet. This is not meant to be too technical of a read, just an FYI for all you crazed plug-in users like me.
A bit about my setup: -A&H SQ5 with Waves-SQ card -Base model Mac Studio M1 Max 32gb RAM etc etc -virtual sound check using SQ-drive -SuperRack on host computer with Soundgrid Server One-C OR LiveProfessor native processing on Mac Studio via Soundgrid QRec driver (to maintain fastest connection and lowest latency)
Latency on the Waves Soundgrid was low as expected, with useable values for live work at FOH and for MON depending on plugin type. In my opinion and in many real world cases, singers and drummers notice latency right away. Some notice excess latency at FOH too. Anyway, I’ve been using a Server One-C for a couple years with my SQ5 and really enjoy it. It takes some setup, but it generally has no issues once configured. The server runs all channel plug-ins on 32 channels, 8 groups, LR bus, as well as 4 effects sends. No issues. CPU usually hits around 30-40%. I feel safe here, with a tiny bit of caution for which plug-ins I use.
Mac Studio w/ LP testing first with a microphone and in ears, I started loading plug-ins on. It runs at 32 samples and pretty low latency (and the processing power is impressive) but not as low as is possible with Soundgrid. It’s not audible, but perceptible. I’m a drummer, so hearing even slight phase or comb filtering is normal for me. Strike one IMO, as even at its lowest possible setting, it can’t be used for MON. So I proceeded with the FOH test. Channel inserts on every channel, the plug-ins load…. But I start to get audio dropouts pretty quick. Change the buffer size to 192 samples… I get up to about 20 channels, and it starts getting over 30% memory usage. At this point I realize I will absolutely need some LR processing and add a Softube Tape, a VSC-2, a Shadow Hills comp, a Pultec, a MAXX-bass, and a Sonnox Limiter. CPU in LP says 50%. No dropouts. So I add a couple Seventh Heaven reverbs because what the hell….. CPU goes to 65%, dropouts start. I change buffer size again. Strike two. At this point we’re at about 1ms in, 4ms buffer, 3ms plug-in processing and listed 1.3ms LP out. Not included is initial A/D for mics or final D/A for PA outputs… or House processor latency….. so this is way up there IMO. Strike three was when I switched to simple reverbs and tried to lower buffer size to something usable. It didn’t happen.
While I am impressed by the Mac Studio, I think it’s completely the nature of native processing currently to blow goats. We are not there yet. The CPU load in Apple Activity monitor said between 4 and 5%, so it seems like the potential is surely there in the M1 Max processor, but the systems are not optimized to take advantage of this power ….. YET.
Anyway, someone buy me a D-Live system and I will go away. In the meantime don’t shame me for trying, you’ve all thought about doing this, admit it!! LOL
Lots of love y’all!!

2023.03.24 07:34 idao93 Help diagnosing
So I built a PC with 16GB RAM, an Asus M5A97 MB, and ATI Radeon 5770, an AMD FX 8120, and a 500w Power supply. The pc boots up, ive been using it for a week now, but since there was a power outage about 2 days ago the pc wouldn't boot up.
After some troubleshooting I found out the PC is like getting stuck when booting and if I unplug the GPU from the motherboard and the Powe Supply, then let it sit for a minute or two and plug everything back in it will boot up as usual.
I'm out of ideas of what could be happening, I've tried all the RAMs, used new RAMs, changed the GPU(same issue with both of them). I have no idea what to do now and it is getting annoying. Could updating the BIOS help? Could changing the CMOS battery solve the issue (I believe it has never been changed)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated since this PC will be used by my son and he is very happy about it.

2023.03.24 07:26 Kuya87 Games Crashing
I recently built a PC with the following parts (
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7tKG8r) it runs fine, but when I start playing any games (Fortnite, Guild Wars 2, Lost Ark, Call Of Duty MW2 or League Of Legends) it abruptly crashes.
I've tried troubleshooting this by:
- Updating Drivers
- Downplaying the graphics of the games for setting it to performance over quality
- Re-installing the files thinking there might be corruption
- ensured the cables are plugged in properly
- I've stressed test both the CPU and the RAM (Both passed)
- I Haven't overclocked the system (in fact a friend assisted me to try and lower the voltage usage and re-direct some of the power to the GPU)
I'm just looking for some advice or guidance on things I can try. Appreciate any support provided.

2023.03.24 07:21 Toe_Taker monitor says no signal/ new pc and monitor
my pc is 7 months old and i’ve had a single monitor with it when i first got the pc the monitor said no signal for about two days until i got it working (i have no memory of even how) and i’ve used it since but the other day i scored a nice curved LG monitor and was excited so i plugged it in with all the correct cables and turned on my pc and immediately saw “no signal” after messing around with it for hours i gave up and was just gonna go back to my old monitor so i plugged the old one back in and turned on my pc and was met with the same no signal screen and was like oh no not again and so i’ve tried everything from simply turning it on and off again to removing the ram and dusting it but nothing seems to work all the cords are correct and fully in and both monitors work all the cord are new and my pc is like i said is only 7 months old i am not the most tech savvy but i’ve tried all of the things google says to try so if anyone knows a secret way i’d be very thankful x

| Head first into a dead platform for budget purposes. All new components except for the GPU (r.i.p EVGA's graphics department). Also upgraded the WiFi module too, with the Intel 8265 card bundled with the mobo reused somewhere else. I really wanted to have USB-C somewhere in my setup, as per the rest of my tech apperatus. My persistance on a Fractal Design case does not help with the budget either; not helpping is my plan to install several more RGB fans. Tried my way of cable management with a modular PSU: route individual cables as I plug each one in... ended up quite clean, except for that short front audio cable, and the back panel is somewhat bulging by a mm or two. 2023.03.24 06:49 imBadMove2 Screen flickering when plugged in
I have a brand new Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X.
Specs: 6900HS, RTX3050, 32GBDDR5 Ram, 1TB SSD.
My screen constantly flickers anytime I use my laptop while it's plugged in.
All drivers are up to date. I'm not sure what to check, but this is really annoying. I shouldn't be having issues with a brand new device like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

2023.03.24 05:16 voxpop9 PC won't boot unless I hold the power button
My PC was turning on properly before until i added a new ssd to my PC. After that, whenever i press the power button normally, i see the rgb lights flicker momentarily and the fans move a little bit before it trips and turns itself back off.
One of the ways to turn it on required me to hold down the button, to which it flickers on, off, and then powers on normally in quick succession. Another way is to power drain the pc which allows it to turn on normally but that is very long and tedious.
My motherboard is ROG B-550F Gaming (Wifi) and normally the power button has a 0.5 second delay before turning on but now it seems to do so instantaneously.
While changing the SSD, I did use a compressed aircan to clean out the PSU and the motherboard. It did spray a bit of the white powder onto the center of the motherboard but i cleaned it away by spraying air over it until it was gone with a light swipe of a towel.
SSD change did involve cloning the original SSD to the new one and then wiping the original (moving windows boot from one to the other SSD)
In case this is related, my Aura light settings seem to not save in bios when set to Aura Off for sleep state. Stealth mode is ok. I have already done a bios reset and Armoury Crate reinstall.
Solutions i have tried: -Updating Bios -Removing and plugging the power button back -Power Drain -CMOS replacement -Turning Fastboot off

2023.03.24 05:07 billyecho Replaced PSU now computer is unresponsive.
So, i got a new psu because my other one had problems. With that being said my pc ran fine besides that. Today i got a new PSU, installed it and everything turned on beside my graphics card. All the rgb, fans, and mother board powered on as normal but the fans were in overdrive mode. And i had black screen on my monitor.
I read somewhere that sometimes you need to reset bios with a new psu, so i disconnected my gpu from the motherboard completely, plugged my monitor into the dedicated gpu of my motherboard to try to reset my bios. After doing that i tried to turn on my pc and nothing responded. No fans, no rgb, not even the standby lights on motherboard.
I have no ideas what the problem is. I tried connecting / reconnecting all points of power. Re slotted my gpu multiple times. Even tried reconnecting my old psu but that didn’t do a thing. Looking for any advice please I’m going crazy.

2023.03.24 04:38 RoaleRoldan No audio when my earphones are plugged
Just bought a new PC, and everything is seemingly ok, but I don't have any audio when I plug it in. I tried updating my drivers, downloaded the Realtek driver, enable and disabled the drivers, restored my windows version, and did every youtube tip I could find, except download third-party programs and it still doesn't work. When I use my wireless controller I have audio coming out of its speaker, but my plugs don't work.
On my cellphone the headset work fine, the problem seems to be my PC
Also when I go to my device manager the option there appear are: NVIDIA High Definition Audio, NVIDIA High Definition Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM), Realtek High Definition Audio, Dispositivo de High Definition Audio.
My specs:
Motherboard: H61 10/100/1000 LGA 1155.
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Processor: I5 3570
Graphics Card: GT 730 4GB

2023.03.24 04:29 Reasonabledwarf An in-depth look at Starfield's skill system, in case you've missed it
The gameplay showcase last year gave us a
pretty good look at the skills in the game and how they'd be doled out, but it happens very fast, and it isn't explained thoroughly. Since then, various folks have pieced together and picked at the presentation sufficiently to construct a more in-depth look at the skill system, but that's generally been done in comment threads so I figure a post-level overview might be useful... especially to newcomers trickling in now that we're closer to release. One thing to keep in mind: this post is primarily based on a year-old build of the game, so things may have changed significantly in the meantime.
1. The Basics
The core of the skill system is gaining skill points by leveling up your character, which you do by collecting good ol' fashioned experience points. These are earned in Fallout style from activities like killing things and discovering new locations, likely among others. In addition to three skills granted by your character's starting background, skills can be unlocked by spending a single skill point. To unlock a skill, however, you need access to that branch of the skill tree.
The skill tree is divided into five categories, each of which is subdivided into four descending branches or levels. The uppermost level of each category is unlocked from the beginning, and it's from these branches that the background starting skills are drawn. Each descending branch requires a certain investment of skill points in the branches above to unlock it before you're allowed to spend points on those skills, although we don't yet know exactly how many points are required, or if the points need to be in the adjacent level or not. (
Example skill tree)
Skill points can also be spent to increase the level of an already unlocked skill, but before you can do that you are required to complete a challenge particular to that level of that skill. This brings an Elder Scrolls-like element of "get good at something by doing the thing" to the game, without tracking lots of different XP bars. Each skill looks like it can be leveled up three times after it's unlocked, granting a stacking bonus each time; the bonus isn't necessarily the same type or magnitude at each level.
Counting them up, it looks like there will be somewhere between 70 and 80 individual skills in the game. Past this point, I'll be getting into more speculative territory as I cover each category of the skill tree in depth, with as much info as we have on each individual skill.
Any text in italics is highly speculative, and largely drawn from my own fevered imaginings. 2. Physical Skills
The Physical category includes only two skills we know about for sure, seven whose existence we can only infer, five unnamed icons, and three partial icons.
3. Social Skills
The entire Social category is visible, which gives us sixteen skills to work with. Four of these skills are also visible in character backgrounds, so we have even more detail.
- "Bargaining - Buy items for 5% less and sell for 10% more." A starter skill. Self explanatory.
- "Diplomacy - You can force a target NPC at or below your level to stop fighting for a while." A starter skill. The same skill effect appears in Fallout 4 in a couple contexts. Remember, leveling up this skill will grant totally different bonuses.
- "Gastronomy - You can craft specialty food and drinks, and research additional recipes at a Research Lab." A starter skill. It seems likely that several other skills might include a Research component, unlocking other crafting recipes.
- "Persuasion - Gain an increased chance of success on speech challenges." A starter skill. Even having seen a speech challenge in the first Constellation Questions video, I don't feel confident speculating on what, exactly, this skill does.
- A chest full of coins and bullets. Considering how Fallout and Skyrim handled things, this could be either a skill that improves quest rewards, or more likely one that improves scavenged loot generally.
- A credit chip, or cab-hailing device. In the Q&A video referenced earlier, it's mentioned that the game previously had a system for calling for help when you ran out of fuel, that has since been removed. This may be related to that system.
- An angry gorilla. Most likely, it's a bonus to intimidation-based options in speech challenges.
- A coin changing hands. Since we already have a trade skill, this might be bribery related.
- A scraggly hand snagging a gem. This looks pretty definitively like a pickpocketing icon.
- A very... abstract image of some people and a match. Maybe related to "matchmaking," or the relationship system.
- A lone spaceman. My only guess: this is a "Lone Wanderer" playstyle skill that gives bonuses when you're alone, but the Introvert trait already exists.
- A two-spaceman team. The exact opposite of the previous, I'm guessing this gives bonuses for teaming up... but again, the Extrovert trait is already a thing.
- A habitat dome. Most likely, this is tied to the social aspects of the outpost system.
- Puppeteering. While it would be great to actually be able to use puppets, I suspect this relates to controlling enemies or micromanaging your hirelings.
- A weird gas pump, or steering yoke. This probably has something to do with managing your ship, or possibly with robots. Not much to go on.
- I have no idea. This one looks like some kind of psychic connection to an alien bug-beast.
4. Combat Skills
The Combat category is the one we have the most information about; seventeen skills, many with full names and effects, are revealed in the trailer. They're also the least interesting, largely consisting of percentage bonuses to damage with specific weapon categories.
- "Ballistics," a starter skill, is the one we know the most about; we see every bonus the skill can grant, and the challenge that unlocks the final rank (250 kills with ballistic weapons).
- "Dueling - Melee weapons do 10% more damage." A starter skill. Self explanatory.
- "Lasers - Laser weapons do 10% more damage." A starter skill. A broad category like Ballistics.
- "Pistol Certification - Pistols do 10% more damage." A starter skill. Self explanatory.
- A break-action shotgun. A starter skill. Most likely a shotgun damage bonus.
- "Demolitions." The rank 3 challenge is to "Kill 125 enemies with explosives," which grants "Explosives do 30% more damage and have a 30% larger radius." We might infer that ranks 2 and 1 do the same, but at 20% and 10% respectively, if we use Ballistics as a template.
- "Heavy Weapons Certification." The rank 4 challenge is to "Kill 250 enemies with a heavy weapon," which grants "Gain 30 Damage Resistance while aiming down the sights with a heavy weapon."
- Highly ambiguous, it looks like some stars and a comet. This could be just about anything.
- A Kalashnikov. Most likely the automatic weapons or assault rifles skill.
- "Marksmanship." This may be a general ranged weapons skill, or a skill specifically for bows.
- "Particle Beams." Like the Lasers and Ballistics skills, this probably covers a range of weapons; being on a later branch, these must be more rare and advanced.
- "Rapid Reloading." The rank 4 challenge is to "Reload 150 empty magazines," woe betide anyone who reloads before they're empty habitually. The rank 4 unlock bonus is "Gain a chance to reload your weapon twice as fast as normal."
- "Sniper Certification - Scoped weapons are steadier and have less sway." Self explanatory. Odd that there aren't any numbers for those stats.
- "Targeting." The rank 3 challenge is to "Kill 125 enemies without aiming," down the sights, presumably. The rank 3 unlock is "Greatly increased accuracy and range when shooting without aiming."
- Some pierced body armor. An armor-piercing skill, probably.
- A knee joint. Either a limb damage skill, or a crippling ability.
- A simple crosshair. Frequently, games use this symbol when talking about critical hits.
5. Science Skills
The Science category is a bit sparse, with only three starting skills; seven visible skills, three partial ones, and five inferred skills make fifteen total.
6. Tech Skills
The Tech category isn't visible in the footage we have, but the name appears in the interface and a couple skills are visible.
- "Security - You can attempt to hack Advanced locks, and 2 auto attempts can be banked." A starter skill. It seems like there are no longer separate hacking and lockpicking activities.
- "Robotics - You deal 10% more damage to Robots and Turrets." A starter skill. Two enemy types we've seen in Fallout return.
- "Starship Design." During the ship customization sequence, various parts appear to require different levels of this skill to install.
... And that's it! Feel free to challenge any of my speculations.

OK, so on the windows lock screen, before I type my password. The battery icon shows like this [ x } . However, when I sign in, my batter is missing from my Taskbar.
Funny enough, in the MyAsus App, it shows my battery as having 97% (at time of my posting). When I unplug my computer, it knows when it's swapped to battery and a pop-up shows itself stating
. It won't even show the battery charging icon when docked to the XG unit, or USB-C.
When I am plugged into power, my pc runs full speed. When I turn my computer off and reboot unplugged, it's running low power mode at 400MHz.
Now, I tried the following: 1) going into Taskbar settings, and the battery option isn't even there. 2) going device manager and disabling the battery icons (both of them) now recently the ACR driver when I disable crashes my system with a stopcode.
Basically I tried everything on this website
https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-restore-missing-battery-icon-windows-10/
I know it's for windows 10, and mine is windows 11. Some of it was the same or I had to work around it.
I even opened up my laptop, disconnected the battery and held the power button. Reconnected the battery, and still not fixed. Then I contacted Asus customer support, and they told me to reset the BIOS, which didn't fix it either. Even tried a full hard reset of computer. Asus tech told me that I'd have to send it in if the BIOS reset didn't work. I can try to wipe and reinstall again, but before I do I wanted to ask here.
Now I'm here, hoping someone can point me in the direction to get my icon back, and free me from having to drag my power cable everywhere just to use my laptop fully.
