So as a preparation for The End and the Death: Volume II, I decided to re-read the Siege of Terra series and I totally forgot how amazing is this conversation between Malcador, Valdor, Sanguinius, Khan and Dorn. I think it contains point of view answers to some of the lore questions - some quite major - that regularly pop up in this subreddit. Excerpts from The Lost and the Damned by Guy Haley.

The Emperor was apparently close to completiting the Webway gate on Terra.
This one is very hotly debated topic in this subreddit, but Malcador clearly says (could be lying though) that Horus pushed Russ to kill Magnus.
In 40k the Emperor cannot leave the Golden Throne or be externally killed, because he is holding the warpgate on Terra closed.

‘Who the Emperor told is not important. Even now it is better that you do not know,’ said Malcador. ‘To name the powers in the empyrean is to invite their attention. The knowledge alone is corrupting – that is all you need to know now, and far more than you needed to know then.’
‘You must perform your part. I shall perform mine when the time comes.’ As one of the few men in all existence who could look into a primarch’s eye without flinching, Malcador met the gaze of each of the three loyal sons in turn. ‘All of you have your parts to play in this struggle.’ He smiled sadly at Sanguinius, and the Angel looked aside.The Phalanx was not a part of Siege of Terra, because Dorn wanted to use it for the evacuation of the Emperor.
‘If Terra falls, the Emperor must survive,’ said Dorn. ‘We all agree that the Emperor, not Terra, is Horus’ objective. The Phalanx represents our best chance of effecting His escape. Only my flagship has any chance of fighting in and outof the system to carry Him away. In all other cases, the perimeter ships will remain out of engagement range until Roboute approaches,’ said Dorn.

Our one year-old mix breed(most probably a hunting breed mix) dog ran away two times. One time because I let her off-leash when I should not have (she was playing with her friends, saw a black cat afar and chased it outside our residential borders), this time my mum accidentally left the house door open. Thankfully I found her and could bring back home after chasing around and tricking her to come near me. She has a habit of running away when I call her name. Her recall is better at home even though not perfect. She has been with us since two months old and I thought I managed to teach her some stuff like sit, stay, lie down. But now I see that none of them are working in real life situations. She also has a resource guarding attitude around some specific foods and she bit my mom once seriously. How do I repair my relationship with my dog and go back to basics? Is it possible to fix these problems? I know it has been a complicated question but I m really struggling on where to start to turn things around. It is my first time owning a dog and any suggestions/similar stories I would appreciate so much.

Let me preface this by saying I am nowhere near immortal, but I like watching DOTA streams. So when I read the patch notes about Immortal Draft, I was excited. Maybe we’d finally see whether it’s better to pick the Rank 60 support or the Rank 20 carry in a game where there’s mostly core players? Then drafting players might become a legitimate skill in pub games.
But, alas no. The high ranked streamers I watch are often chosen as the captain, proceed to pick the lowest MMR players available, and then complain all game long that their teammates are terrible.
Like what did you expect when you’re rank 2 and deliberately pick rank 500s instead of the rank 50 player that was available?
Now, we all know why they do this: You lose less MMR when you lose and you gain more MMR when you win. But man does it feel stupid.
That said, I’d like to discuss ways to encourage captains to actually pick the “best” players available first.
Here’s a couple potential suggestions: 1. Calculate the rating difference based on the highest MMR player available at the time you picked. So if there was a 10k player available and you picked the 6k player, that’s on you. 2. Add a flat 10 MMR to the amount gained or lost when you’re captain. I goes a bit against Glicko, but it’d promote actually thinking during the player picking phase. 3. Make the variation in MMR gained or lost per game significantly smaller. No more +40/-10. Maybe have a max of +30/-20 instead.
For the sake of this discussion I’d like to focus on strict solo queue, though I understand that parties are another complicating factor.

If this is the effect that a single human being could have upon a foreign world, what would happen when all of humankind took to the stars? Most of the population has transcended from Philip's conservative viewpoints, but there are still plenty that hold tightly onto them. Even if these views become extremely rare as humanity advances toward spaceflight, there would still be thousands or millions of humans that would hold them, and what could such a number of people accomplish if they followed the same path as Philip? Any alien life we encountered would be subject to the threat of extermination by a large number of radical human supremacists.
To go further, what if it wasn't a minority of the population?
In an alternate reality (which would have both an alternate Boiling Isles and an alternate Earth), Caleb and Philip Wittebane never found the portal to the Boiling Isles and remained in Gravesfield. As he grew into adulthood in the human realm, Philip's religious fanaticism developed just as strongly, and he amassed a religious following on Earth resulting in the formation of the highly successful Holy Revivalist Church, and instituted a series of crusades against Earth-based witchcraft that would have put Salem to shame. Having never met Evelyn, Caleb is indoctrinated by his brother and serves as his right-hand man. The Holy Revivalist Church becomes prevalent throughout the United States, and Philip, having acquired total power over Gravesfield, pronounces himself the first Governor-Priest. Members of the church are sworn to chastity, but Philip makes an exception for any member of the Wittebane family, beginning a chain of descendants that maintains control of the church for centuries.
By the modern era, the Holy Revivalist Church has effectively converted the United States into a conservative theology. The nation has devolved into small shut-in agrarian communes, which all pay a heavy tax to the church to maintain the church-controlled military. All scientific matters are handled directly by church officials, to prevent the public from challenging the role of the Creator, and the immense funding they are receiving have allowed them to develop advanced technologies that are mostly withheld from the public. Any behavior that deviates from they church-approved way is associated with witchcraft and cause for immediate imprisonment.
The current rulers of the church are Governor-Priests Eldred and Darwin Wittebane. While they are on a campaign with a hundred heavily-armed soldiers to storm a resistance compound, the portal to the Boiling Isles finally opens up, and they are transported in, armored vehicles and all. The alternate Luz, who was a resistance soldier, falls into the same portal. (The alternate Boiling Isles will be slightly different - the Collector never visited it, as the Archivists would exist between all the multiverses at once and could never be in two at the same time, so the Titan there died a natural death, laying down with its hands/paws folded over its chest, and plenty of offspring for King to socialize with. Most people won't be the same because the Titan's body is composed differently and would therefore fertilize different life, but the Blights would have to be around because some things are meant to be. There would be a new set of glyphs too, with some of the previous ones mixed in)
Eldred and Darwin take a note from Philip's would-be book and begin convincing the witches that they are gods through displays of their technological abilities. Due to their technological advantage, they are not so concerned with the threat that witches pose to humankind, but instead take more of a colonizer approach, attempting to see how the Boiling Isles can be harvested to supply the theological United States. Titan blood is the new oil. Basilisks, unfortunately, would be captured and studied for their camouflage properties. Gallbladders might even be synthesized for Eldred and Darwin to enable them to perform magic without glyphs. The only thing they cannot do is create a portal back to the human realm for reinforcements, although they are working on doing so.
Now, where's the spaceflight?
Alternate Luz is watching what's going on, and The Collector happens to discover this world as well. They recognize her from the normal world and decide to help. The Wittebane's complex is well-guarded by sci-fi weaponry, making an invasion impossible, and Alternate Luz has not had the time to recruit an army. Instead, being more militant than the normal Luz due to her background, Alternate Luz directs The Collector to steal a spacecraft from the Holy Revivalist Church's military so she can use it to destroy the compound. The Collector does so (through Archivist magic) but decides that Alternate Luz could really use the backup of the main squad, so the spacecraft is sent through an Archivist Portal to normal Earth to collect everyone first.
All sorts of things could happen from here.

Did development begin on TOTK in Guantanamo Bay to get prisoners to break? If not, I'm sure someone would be glad to give it a try in the near future as soon as someone dumb enough to purchase this game finally does so and reports it to the authorities for the abuse it is.
Compare this GARBAGE to the zen, tranquility, the masterpiece of experience, Dark Souls II. Every moment from the second you boot up the game is handcrafted artistry. It's a good thing Miyazaki didn't even get his greasy mitts on this game to fill it full of feet and over the top 'lore'.
Dark Souls II not just refined, it perfected the metroidvania, Zelda-like experience and honed it to a razor's edge by which all other games will prove if they can be cut from the same cloth. It's a rare gem in a sea of mediocrity and trite sequels and remakes.

Right now, I am daily driving 2 headsets: G2 and PSVR2. I own a Quest 2, CV1, Go, and the last 2 GearVRs.
Here is my opinion of who each upcoming headset is for:
Quest 3 - Fans of Quest 2 that want an upgrade. I think I will recommend people see if VR is for them with a Quest 2 first. Since they are dropping Quest 2 back to $299, I think used ones will be down to $199. Maybe Walmart will have the refirb black Friday sale again for like $199-249.
I expect Quest 3 pancake lenses will be a nice clarity bump, and I think the upgrade is worth $200 more, but some people buy VR and stuff it in a closet forever. In summary, Quest 3 is a reasonable upgrade for people who have tried and love standalone VR, and don't want to get a PC, or deal with a wire. Wireless PC gaming is valid, but I am personally not a fan of the compression.
I really don't mind the wire, and that's why I haven't used Quest 2 since December when I got my G2. It will be interesting to compare Quest 3 large sweet spot of clarity to G2. I expect the G2 to still be an overall better package for PCVR. Imo this comparison is still important, because we need to know the best PCVR headset around $500 USD. I am going to be really surprised if Quest 3 exceeds G2, because what I have heard about Quest Pro doesn't (I haven't tried Quest Pro so I can't speak to that).
The G2 still holds a candle to the Beyond according to recent through the lens comparisons, which still makes it the go-to entry level PCVR headset for at least another year or so imo. I haven't really heard of a PCVR headset coming that's going to cost around the price of Quest 2. It's a shame that Meta refuses to sell a SKU of Quest 3 with uncompressed Link at higher margin to the 20% of their users that use SteamVR, but I digress.
Bigscreen Beyond - PCVR enthusiasts that want a headset specifically made for maximum comfort, clarity, and compatible with the best tracking system available for VR. One thing I really like about Beyond is that they are taking their disadvantage of being a small company and turning it into an advantage. What I mean by that is I think they are actually making a product that a huge company like Meta couldn't make. I don't think Meta can reasonably sell a headset right now with a custom facial interface. It would be a nightmare to try to ship 20 million Quests all with a different facial interface. The custom interface will make a huge difference.
Not only that, but the yields and price of oled micro displays are not ready for a product with Quest sales volume. Meta are constrained by battery, mobile processing, etc that all add weight to the device. It will be a very long time before they can make a device as small and compelling as Beyond in a standalone form factor, with enough scale for it to make sense for them. All those sacrifices just to avoid a wire and the need for a PC.
If I could make an analogy, there is a director named Matt Johnson that turns his independent films into an advantage rather than a disadvantage. He knows big movie studios can't make films with the crazy plots he comes up with so rather than trying to do what the big guys do but worse, he makes stuff that only small directors can make. Bigscreen is essentially doing that, but for VR headsets.
Bigscreen's headset is literally right at the edge of the current display port standard, which is why the full resolution requires display stream compression at 90hz. All that and in a tiny form factor with pancake lenses? I just think they are making all the right decisions. I'm not trying to shill for them, but this is the first time since CV1 that I feel like one company is making the exact headset I want.
Apple Vision Pro - Developers and professionals with a very specific niche use-case. This is a first generation headset that Apple feels meets their minimum bar. I think this headset will have 2 positive effects on the market as a whole:
The Apple headset is in the opposite side of the price spectrum, but still has the issue of not fitting into what most people currently using VR want. If you can't imagine a use case for it, it's not for you. If reviews come out and it is genuinely a great professional tool that does a few things better than any other professional hardware, I am thrilled about that. I hope that happens, because then instead of a 3-4k laptop, my work can get me one of these. I could see the Apple Vision Pro being excellent for certain design applications, certain video workloads, and certain modeling workflows. I will wait for reviews on it, and I find it to be an interesting market entry.
Finally, I am interested to see if all this new hardware makes a dent on the open web. That's a whole separate discussion, but I think it's interesting to imagine the future of the web if the headsets have enough clarity that a ton of people use it that way.

How MBOTF / Malazan is sold to a brand new reader like me around the internet -
These are some of the main and common things that I found out while searching for what the series was all about. Some resources describe the series in a more positive way, whereas some in a more less than positive way (negative is probably not the right word here I feel, cuz the resources are telling you why you should pick it up in the first place, rather than not to) -
- The series is very long, in fact one of the longest out there wrt fantasy / word count, and that it's still not complete. MBOTF is done (with 10 BIG books) by SE, but the 'Malazan World' as a whole has a lot more to offer, including NOTME by ICE (again completed; with 6 books), two prequels series, one sequel series, and a bunch of novellas. And there are more books on the way! So spending the time and energy for this is the reader's personal choice.
- It is also probably the most complex / challenging series out there. So start at your own risk. Especially if you're new to fantasy or haven't read too much stuff before. Also, you will not understand everything, SE doesn't spoon feed the readers in any way. So if you're into it, then only go for it.
- Not for everyone's taste too. That it tackles certain aspects in a much "rougher way" (violence, sexual assault, etc.), and that the author doesn't pull any punches in doing so. As long as one is able to manage their emotions wrt this, it will be OK. Otherwise, not for the faint hearted so as to speak.
- The writing / prose is pretty good, but again, not for everyone. It can get very confusing and difficult at times. Can also get too much philosophical at times, and as the series progresses, some of the books tend to drag on a bit. And the major underlying themes concerned are compassion, pain, grief, suffering, etc.
- The characters, although some very well written, do not quite come out as the best in the genre (writing wise). There are too many characters' POV to follow, and that can be challenging to say the least.
- It is more of a military fantasy in a way, involving multiple battle sequences, strategies, etc. and if you like wars, armies, magic, assassins, thieves, fantasy creatures, amazing places, some cool OP characters, even gods themselves getting involved in a much bigger game, you should definitely go for it.
- The worldbuilding is top class though, and the journey throughout is well worth all your efforts in the end. Many even stating that this right here is the most epic and best fantasy series they have ever read!
- Lastly, that GOTM is THE hardest of the bunch wrt everything. The writing, plot wise, character wise, understanding wise, etc. I f you can manage to push through it, you'll be able to get on pretty well. Also, to judge if the series is made for you or not, go through AT LEAST the first three books of MBOTF. If then you're into it, it's definitely for you. If not, you should probably consider dropping it.
Factors that led me to start the Malazan Book of the Fallen -
Now, since the turn of the year, I've been greatly influenced by certain factors that propelled me into starting this journey - (in no particular order really)
- Malaztube / Booktube / Youtube - I know there are quite a few number of people out there who make some really good content wrt Malazan, but the following were the ones that I personally was hugely inspired by (again, in no particular order) - Matt's Fantasy Book Reviews, Iskar Jarak, Andy Smith, The Fantasy Nuttwork, Mike's Book Reviews, Daniel Greene, Petrik Leo, CREEDER, etc. [NOT promotional in any way btw]
- Artworks / Fan arts / Cover designs / Other graphical representations - These were genuinely the things that pushed me into starting the series even further. Some really beautiful and amazing stuff present out there, without question. Makes you want to read it for yourself, to experience it first hand!
- Articles / Posts / Websites / Other online resources - There's a TON of stuff out there, in-depth / detailed to such an extent that you wouldn't deem possible. All that and then some. Whatever you need, it's there. The amount of dedication, effort, and analysis for this series made me realize that it was certainly more than special, and again, gave me that final push needed.
- This sub right here - No cap / sugar coating in any way. I've been following / reading the posts and the comments since the past 2-3 months from afar, and was really surprised to see a well balanced community. Also was able to check out the various resources, related sites, and the reading companions, which again, strengthens the fact that there's so much great content and info. present out there thanks to the efforts of many people. So keep it up and kudos for that! The only slight disappointment for me was that the number of Bonehunters present were/are just a little bit lower than what I expected. Hopefully many more recruits on the way! But hey, quality over quantity, as they say!
Some VERY important advice for all the new readers out there -

- TOTALLY AVOID THE BACK COVERS / SYNOPSIS! - Two major spoilers were ruined for me while doing this. Now, I get that you are looking to know what is happening and what not, but avoid this. Maybe just go for the GOTM one since it'll be your first book to pick (even though you'd still be wondering WTH is going on and why), but that's all. No more. Rather go for Malaztube / Booktube / Youtube content which has non spoiler stuff. Those are very well explained, and won't spoil anything for you. Rather will make the basic gist of the series pretty clear so you can directly hop on the wagon. Lots of channels to choose from as well. Even some of the articles / websites will do the same for you (hoping you avoid clicking where you shouldn't be clicking in the first place!).
- AVOID GETTING INTO THE ARTWORK / FAN ART TRAP! - Now, I'm not saying this in a negative way, of course not. There are some gorgeous, amazing artworks out there, especially fan arts. But make sure you only go through the ones with a NO SPOILER tag / label. Otherwise, don't even glance at it. Some artists / fans don't have the tags or labels on their personal pages / bios. So watch out. I have unfortunately received one of the biggest possible spoilers while doing this. So tread carefully. You have been warned!
- ARTICLES / WEBSITES / OTHER ONLINE RESOURCES - There are really some GREAT stuff out there about Malazan (I really can't help but stress this point even more). But one wrong click, and chances are you might get spoiled, like I did. So again, only go for the NON SPOILER stuff.
- ABOUT THIS SUB - There's a reason there are multiple, well defined flairs present here. So out of curiosity and excitement, DO NOT click on any of the spoiler posts, let alone the comments. Even then, the spoiler part is covered by a grey patch. DO NOT click on it if you don't want to get spoiled. Things I've been personally guilty of, but luckily, didn't spoil anything major as such.
Anyways, so yeah, that's pretty much it from my perspective. I am fairly certain this is a scam, but I feel like I should share it, in case anyone else gets something similar.
I received a text message that looked legitimate, coming from a medical clinic telling me I have a bill I need to pay (in a state I done live in or near.) There was a link and a phone number in the message. I did not click the link, but I went to the URL in my browser. The website is legitimate and I entered my phone number in the login, but the next window asked for a statement number, which I obviously didn't have because I never visited this hospital.
I did a search of the contact phone number and reviews of it said it was some woman calling people asking to speak to someone else about billing. They were vague, but that raised a red flag. Then I searched the number that actually sent the text message and it was not associated with anything related to the content of the text and had a different area code.
Two weeks later, I got a reminder text of this bill with the same URL and billing phone number.
I have blocked the number, but I haven't reached out to the clinic to find out if someone stole my numbeidentity, or if it's a scam. I'm fairly certain this is a scam to get money out of me. I don't live anywhere near the clinic and haven't had any procedures done recently.
If anyone receives something similar, be sure to investigate!

Hello all,
I'm at the end of my wits here and need some assistance.
I built my PC back in 2020 and had no issues, fast forward to a few months ago, my computer was running into some issues and would black screen freeze, my solution was a fresh install of windows 11. Problem was resolved, fast forward to last month, the problem arises again, this time more frequently until I couldn't post. After some research, tried a new power supply, no luck, tested the GPU with a friend's build, and sure enough my 3080 died. Thankfully it was under warranty and has been shipped away for RMA.
I bought a Gigabyte 3060 to hold me over while waiting, same black screen issues, went through a bunch of driver uninstall/reinstalls until finally it worked great. Now yesterday I replaced the GPU with the same exact model but with a PCIE gen 4 riser vs gen 3 and the black screen returned. Frustrated that I had the same issue with seemingly no changes, I did more research and found this JayzTwoCents video that described my issue.
It seems that the GPU drivers refuse to actually install. The installer completes no problem, but the driver doesn't seem to be installed. Heaven benchmark is giving 5 FPS, NVapi won't initialize in FanControl. I tried to flash the ROM on the GPU per the video mentioned earlier but no luck.
Also, the driver version I can install and post with is 496.13, this version is the one running Heaven at 5 FPS. Any newer version returns a error 43 in device manager and won't post after a restart. Even the more current driver that was previously running fine won't work.
I feel like I'm losing my mind here and would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.
Here's my parts list;

- MSI B550i

Yes, technically it is possible to lost them under water because this is how the game is designed, how alligators "dive and hide" mechanic is designed. I was trying, exploring, taking that pain, taking my lessons, analysing and planing how to make things just easier. After some time I got all pieces together and got a new concept how to try grinding them and not to lose them under water. Now, when I'm absolute in love od grinding them, after over 1700 kills, I have a lot of arguments and final conclusions, which can denify a lot of problems and mistakes of most of players trying hunt gators. The same mistakes and problems with I had to deal and which I did. There was no easy way out on beginnig. It can be unpopular opinion, annoying one, making some ppl salty, but we have to say it loud - losing alligators under water is mainly an effect of bad shot placement. I don't care what kind of shot - gator hunt don't tolerate bad shots. Bad head or neck shot which don't instant kills is bad shot, bad shot at lungs, which ends in leg or not in lungs is mess. If you can't take perfect shot on gator, you are taking NO SHOT - that's all. Your job is to make everything to get to place and time for perfect shot. End of story. Of course we can blame the game about allowing that kind of problem. So of course, reason is not bad shot, reason is, because gators can be gone under water, right? Just let us hit them like we want, no matter good or not, let us make them complete mess and please give me my gator from water back.. Is this the way? This game mechanic should be not working like that but even if it is what it is there is possibility to hunt them efficient with fun and with no problems. And this mechanic makes gator hunt 'easy to start but hard to master' and gators as animal 'easy to hit but hard to get'. Which is something special in COTW. It is absloute another level and world of hunting compare to white tails or any other ground animal. As I wrote - I killed over 1700 gators. My way is to (only) lung shots. In my opinion neck and head shooting is only a space for making huge mistakes (specially on very long ranges), letting them reach the water and losing them there. Because WOUNDED AND SLOW DYING ALLIGATOR WILL BE ALMOST ALWAYS A UNDER WATER LOST ALLIGATOR. But - perfect hitted gator is not a lost one. The reason is here how deep are waters on hunting spots. If they have to much time to dive and reaching the deepest spots, they will be gone - that's the reason why bad shots giving them time to dive that deep (more details in my YT video). Now, why am I mentoning my number of kills? Because I let all alligators run in water! I even want them run in water to easier collecting them! I have absolutely no stress about gator in water. So far I lost ONLY 45 (saying my newest notes) gators under water. 10 of them because I really lost them even with beeing sure spot is safe or low risk. But just think about it - 10 of 1700. It is marginal. 35 of them were lost because I was lazy - there were just bad shots or I just could do more to avoid their reaching the very worst spots. For example - in near of 'black hole' spot I could take (last chance solution) neck shot or just make more effort for double lungs. But no - I was lazy and took bad shot and I was not angry or suprised it was lost. Or I just kill them 'anyhow' - you know, grinding right on some days. So, after all that kills and taking gators from water (aside some hundreds killed on ground on short ranges) I got some experiences where you can lose gator under water and where not. And I give you that knowledge on a plate to stop talking all over "yOu haVe tO lOsT gaToR unDEr WaTeR". Because you don't have. KEEP in mind - this map will be working like that only if gator dies in the marked point after a one perfect vital shot. Hurting them, messing them up, machine gunning them will not making this map works. And I'm thinking about guns with class 4-8 ammo and 4-9 ammo like M1 or zarza .308. (in case someone is planning to rush gators with ranger or solokhin - no, it will not work) The colours of spots*:
