2023.06.06 19:07 kingpingmaster_ What about data privacy?

So, I have being researching for quite few days about ours Personal Data & Information that big tech giant promises to keep it safe and "not to share with anyone" well is that true?. If you listen to C.E.Os speech, in that speech they will say that "the data of the user belongs to them and we will not share... Bla bla....." No!! Absolutely not they just make by selling our (user) Data, that's there business model if they don't collect or sell it they won't be able to make money, and to counter this there are quite few companies which are only "Privacy Focused" for example Duckduck Go it's a wonderful company DuckDuckGo is a safe and privacy-friendly search engine. It does not collect user data and allows you to browse the web anonymously. So it's a 1 week... I guess... I have being using Duckduck Go as my default browser and search engine and yeah not using Google. And my experiences was pretty much good šŸ‘ yeah Duckduck go sometimes doesn't show relevant seach result like Google did, but come guys... It's doesn't collect your data as well as doesn't track you.
So if you wanted to switch from Google to something else then you should consider using duckduck Go

2023.06.06 19:05 BrunoDoggo Got fired for too long of a bathroom break (I think?)

oh god ok...
My Background:
Restaurant Background:
The story:
I started there last Wednesday, all of the kitchen staff love me (and I love them back <3) and have been helping me get back into the swing of cooking again as I have to readjust to the kitchen bc my last real cooking gig was junior year of high school.
They had me on Expo, Salads and Desserts my first couple days while it wasnt busy, and had me help where I could on a rush. They said I was making good progress and that it was impressive how I'd broken their expectations and it made me feel good inside to know that I was wanted in a kitchen and that summer was going to be ok. (This is 3 days in)
All this shit started on Day 4 at around 2 or so, when the FoH guy saw that I had a few tickets I was working on making salads for, as well as pulling and plating a dessert or two. He tells me to pull out my station and scrub the floor and wipe it down.
I asked if i could finish the tickets i was half done with first
He said "clean the floors and cook, you can multitask"
I said "I can't do both at the same time which one do you want me to do first?"
He shouted "Just do your fucking Job"
I said "I am? Im making salads"
He then yelled at me to clean the floors and walked away in a huff.
Later that day he came back to me and pulled me aside and apologized for being an asshole and all that. And I thought "cool this guy is like actually a decent person to work for" I was wrong.
Day 5. Yesterday.
I come in at 1145, grab my apron and my towel, start working on the two tickets that are up.
An hour or so passes and my stomach is killing me to the point where its hard to focus and I'm slipping up on my plating with desserts.
I talk to FoH man and take a bathroom break. I'm there for 10 min maximum.
I get back and start working on the very few tickets we have because its a monday at 230 at this point.
At about 3 I am instructed by the BoH manager to start portioning out sauces so ther servers can grab them, I get about 3/4 of the way through and nature calls. I try to shrug it off but I can't and I out lids on the sauce containers and wipe off my station as fast as I can.
I spend 20 min in there that time. I met god at the pearly gates.
I make it out alive, walk back to my station and start portioning out the last sauces. FoH man comes up to me and starts chewing me out.
"How the fuck did you pass culinary school"
"You didn't wipe down your station, thats completely unsanitary" (He has told me to cut mold off food and serve it)
"None of your things are stocked" (They were)
"I pay you too much for you to be taking 20 min bathroom breaks"
"I can send you home right now we dont need you here"
"Youre a failure"
Like seriously? I'm not even 20 yet
So I stood there in a stupor for a bit as I wiped down my station and filled the 2 things that were even close to half empty.
And then I thought to myself for a second, "well if he doesn't need me here and im dying of what feels like dysentery, I might as well go home cause im putting up shoddy work"
So i wander up to him in the FoH and pull him aside and ask, "Hey if you don't need me here like you said, can I go home? I kinda don't feel well like you saw"
He shouted back, "Clock out and don't come back"
I said "what the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
he said "you know what it means, get the fuck out if my restaurant"
So i clocked out and walked back into the kitchen, set down my apron and towel, said to the three other cooks that he just fired me. They were very confused, so i explained what happened and then I left and sat in my car and cried a lil bit.
5 fucking days. thats it.
I don't understand what I did wrong.
Everything was peaches and cream with everone else there except for him. I was enjoying my job and I thought I was doing good but ??? I guess not

2023.06.06 19:05 Objective_Ad429 National Guard/Reserve questions

Active duty 11C E5 type. Gonna have just short of 5 years active time when I ETS. Considering guard or reserve after ETS. I’ll be moving to Missouri, STL side of the state. As far as I can tell there is no infantry unit in MO. There is one in IL. There is a CA unit about 4 hours from where I’ll be moving to. There is also a PSYOP unit in the state. I’m not sure how the guard/reserve retirement works, or if Tricare reserve is worth the headache. I’m a welder by trade and will probably start with a shop job but I’m looking into the construction unions, ironworkers or boilermakers most likely. I enjoy my MOS overall, and I considered going to CAAS but active duty just really isn’t working for my family. Is the guard/reserve worth it, especially if it’s a 3+ hour drive one way?

2023.06.06 19:05 the_lamou We're going Florida Man on Reddit, June 12-14

On June 12th, this subreddit will be going dark for at least 48 hours to join the growing protest against the unreasonable manner in which Reddit is changing the fundamentals of how this website operates and how developers, moderators, and users alike experience this platform. These changes will make it prohibitively expensive to use the Reddit API: the service that lets devices directly access Reddit's content and features, and allows things like apps, bots, and tools to work.
For users, this means that their favorite mobile apps will simply shut down, unable to afford the new costs. For the roughly 80% of you that access Reddit on your phones, this means no more Apollo, no more RIF, no more Narwhal, no more BaconReader, etc. You'll be stuck with the official Reddit mobile app 🤮 , which frankly isn't worth the electrons it's written on.
This change will also remove API access to NSFW subreddits, which means no more porn on any third-party app that manages to stay in business, but ALSO a lot more porn bots spreading to the SFW subs as it becomes more difficult to moderate, and poorer moderation and quality in NSFW subs.
For moderators, these changes are even worse. Most of us are not independently wealthy, and don't have the luxury of being able to moderate all day from our desktops. For most of us, this is a part-time volunteer gig we do because we're passionate about the communities we mod. Most of our moderation happens from cell phones in our spare time. The official app makes this almost impossibly difficult.
Even if the official app wasn't a garbage fire, most mod teams rely on tools and bots to help them sort through the overwhelming pile of content to keep the community safe and healthy. In the last 30 days, the Florida subreddit had 838 posts published, and an additional 1,100 posts that were removed. We've also had 30,000 comments published, and 9,600 removed. That's not counting how many reports we've dealt with, how many comments required manual approval, how many modmails have been responded to. This should give you some scope for how much work it is to moderate even a relatively small subreddit like ours. Without the tools we currently rely on, moderating this community as effectively as we currently do would be impossible, which means you the user would have to deal with all the bullshit we currently filter. Our experience gets worse, which means your experience gets worse.
So what are we trying to accomplish? The goal for these blackouts and associated actions is to get Reddit to reconsider their stance on API access and cost. We aren't trying to get access for free, and we aren't against Reddit making money. They're a business, not a charity, and we get that. But there needs to be a reasonable balance between their desire to boost revenues before an eventual IPO and the needs of the users and moderators who make an IPO possible in the first place.
Reddit is built entirely on the backs of their users and mods. Their company only exists and has value because we all create it for them. We hope that through these blackouts, we can remind them of this and get them to bring the cost for their API access to more reasonable levels in line with similar services. If they don't, the entire Reddit experiment risks going the way of Digg, MySpace, and more recently Facebook and Twitter. No one wants that, least of all us. Help support this cause by leaving a comment here, or on [this post}(https://www.reddit.com/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/), or by messaging u/reddit or messaging the mods of Reddit, who are actual paid employees of Reddit. Make your support known, and take the 12th through 14th of June off! Go spend some time in Florida's amazing parks, check out a theme park, meet your neighbor, poke a gator in your local drainage pond, or just do some bath salts under a highway overpass! Let's Florida-man the crap out of this, guys.
Best,
Your friendly neighborhood Florida mods

2023.06.06 19:05 DirectionPhysical dad pulled out G-tube

hi all, my dad was on the verge of death in January. he has Parkinson’s, end of life, in a quick choice— we put in a G-tube.
he’s better now; but quality of life isn’t there anymore. he yanked his g-tube out over the weekend. I think I’ve decided to no longer place it back in and allow the natural progression of life and his disease. I do feel I’m prolonging the inevitable and will be doing more so, if placing the tube back.
I don’t know, came here to see if anyone has any thoughts or experience with a similar decision.

2023.06.06 19:05 TheDETTigersTrain [META] Would you like /r/motorcitykitties to go dark from June 12-14 to protest Reddit API changes?

Reddit may force Apollo and third-party clients to shut down, asking for $20M per year API fee
TL;DR: No more 3rd party apps to browse Reddit. Users will be forced to use official Reddit app which has less features, is slower, is overall a shittier experience.
Personally for me, will make moderating impossible on mobile.
Is this something the community wants to participate in?

2023.06.06 19:04 throwfaraway344 CEO pulling an Elon Musk on us

I’m an engineer at a Series G fintech startup in London. Things have been looking bad in the last year. Company is unprofitable, hired way too fast in the years of crazy market growth, but there have been no salary reviews in the last 1.5 years, no promotions in the latest cycle, they’re moving teams to an Eastern European country (our team will eventually be dispersed but the transition period is expected to last for another year at least). A few weeks ago layoffs were announced but no info given on who’s impacted, they said that’s coming in mid June. And now some more great news from the CEO today, who’s now essentially saying the culture will change, we will make you work more, we will challenge you more, we won’t pay you any more, and if you don’t like it you can take severance and leave. Essentially pulling an Elon Musk Twitter 2.0 BS on us. They’re saying they’ll announce details in another week but my understanding is severance is 3 months pay + 2 months (or more, idk, as my team is delivering business crucial projects in the next 6 months) notice which will most likely need to be worked in my case.
I’ve done some interviewing in February, market seemed really tough back then, lots of rejections, one of them after a full loop where I nailed all the technical parts, didn’t get any offers, took a break, started again a couple weeks ago and it seems better now though I’m not sure yet. Got a few interviews lined up and lots of recruiter chats. I have 10 YoE but a background with PHP and 6 years at a failed startup, though doing Rails at current job and know some JS, interviewing mainly for language agnostic roles. I consider myself a senior but my current role is probably something like a mid-senior, at the startup I was titled a senior, I was the first engineering hire there but our engineering team was never more than 5 people. I’m on Ā£90k right now and 1 day a week in the office, aiming for at least Ā£100k and 2 days a week in the office at most, seems hard to come by in London but it’s just not worth staying here otherwise tbh.
So my question is, would you guys take the money and run given the same situation?

2023.06.06 19:04 Moore_Attuned_Ed How to proofread your own fiction

Here's some tips I use when proofreading.
  1. Keep a style sheet!
This can be as extensive as you like, but recording certain decisions as you go along (or better yet, before you get to writing) is a cornerstone to consistency.
Do you use while/whilst, among/amongst? (While narration should be consistent, keep in mind that characters’ dialogue may differ.)
Spaced en dashes or unspaced em dashes?
-rnt or -elled spellings? Smelt or smelled?
Record these down and consult the style sheet as you write.
Want a template for one? Go ahead and scroll down on my blog post (link in comments) and click on that massive orange button near the end to get two copies, one with dropdown menus and one without.
  1. Searching for consistency.
When you come across a word that has multiple spelling variations (or two words that can be closed up, hyphenated, or left apart), run a search for its variant.
Of course, check the usage of compound adjectives – if it’s being used before the noun the hyphens are needed: I have a part-time job versus my job is part time.
Let’s say you come across wellbeing. Run a search for well-being and if that pulls up results, inconsistency is afoot! Run another search for both to see which one is the majority usage, then replace the other with it.
  1. Give it some distance!
This goes for any kind of editing, not just proofreading. Once you’ve finished writing, leave it alone for a day or two, refresh your mind, and come back to it later.
Resetting your mind like this will make you better at finding those errors because the brain gets complacent among familiarity and skips what it thinks is there.
Taking a refresher combats this.
  1. Read slowly!
It can be tempting when proofreading to read at your leisure pace.
But this is a sure-fire way to skim straight past those things that the brain interprets as correct but isn’t – form instead of from, dependant instead of dependent.
  1. Change the font!
I use and recommend Verdana as it’s a sans serif font (no extra strokes at the ends of letters) and has good spacing between each letter.
This makes it far easier to spot mistakes.
I hope this is useful! :)

2023.06.06 19:04 ballisticwhales Is AI generated pornography ethical?

My friend and I are both engineering majors (he's computer, I'm electrical) so we talk a lot about machine learning stuff and recently he told me that one of his friends who graduated got a job at a company that makes AI generated pornography. I don't know how to feel about it. On the one hand, I feel like this might be a good alternative to regular pornography because with most regular porn you have no way of knowing if the women in the videos are being exploited, coerced, etc into being in those videos as we know many women who end up in the porn industry are. However, after viewing some of the generated images, I've noticed that they promote an even more unrealistic body standard than regular porn does. Additionally, I feel like this could be used to create porn of people who have not consented to it. So what do you all think? Is AI generated porn ethical?

2023.06.06 19:03 Healthinspiration How a 35 lbs Weight Loss Can Transform Your Life

How a 35 lbs Weight Loss Can Transform Your Life
Weight loss success story
Losing weight can be a life-changing journey. It not only improves your physical health but also boosts your confidence and overall well-being. The goal of shedding 35 lbs may seem daunting, but with the right strategies and mindset, it can be achieved. In this article, we will explore the concept of weight loss, the relationship between weight and calories, and provide practical tips to help you lose 35 lbs and experience a transformative change in your life.
Understanding Weight Loss
Before diving into the specifics of losing 35 lbs, let's first understand what weight loss entails. Weight loss refers to the reduction in body weight, typically as a result of burning more calories than you consume. It is influenced by various factors, including genetics, lifestyle choices, and underlying medical conditions. Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for overall well-being, as it reduces the risk of chronic diseases and promotes optimal physical and mental functioning.
The Concept of Calories
Calories play a crucial role in the weight loss journey. They are units of energy derived from the food and beverages we consume. Weight loss occurs when you create a calorie deficit, which means you burn more calories than you consume. The key components of the calorie equation are caloric intake and expenditure.
Your caloric intake is determined by the foods and drinks you consume. It is important to make nutritious choices and avoid excessive consumption of high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. On the other hand, caloric expenditure refers to the energy your body burns through various activities, including exercise, daily activities, and bodily functions.
The Relationship Between Weight and Calories
To lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit occurs when you consume fewer calories than your body needs for daily activities and maintenance. This deficit forces your body to tap into stored fat for energy, leading to weight loss.
On average, a pound of body weight is estimated to be equivalent to approximately 3,500 calories. Therefore, to lose 35 lbs, you would need to create a calorie deficit of 122,500 calories over a period of time. It is important to note that weight loss should be approached gradually and sustainably for long-term success.
The 35 lbs Weight Loss Milestone
Setting a realistic weight loss goal is essential to stay motivated and track progress effectively. Losing 35 lbs is a significant milestone that can have a profound impact on your health and well-being. However, it is important to remember that weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all journey. The time required to lose 35 lbs may vary depending on factors such as metabolism, starting weight, and individual circumstances.
On average, a healthy rate of weight loss is considered to be 1-2 pounds per week. Based on this estimate, losing 35 lbs could take approximately 17-35 weeks, or 4-8 months. It is crucial to approach weight loss with patience and focus on sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.
Strategies for Losing 35 lbs
Losing 35 lbs may seem overwhelming, but with the right strategies, it is achievable. Here are some effective approaches to help you on your weight loss journey:
MUST SEEN : The Lazy Way to a Slimmer You: How to Lose Weight Without Exercising
Healthy Eating Habits
Adopting healthy eating habits is essential for weight loss. Focus on incorporating a variety of nutrient-dense foods into your diet, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Aim for portion control and mindful eating, paying attention to hunger and fullness cues. Consider consulting a registered dietitian for personalized guidance and meal planning.
Regular Physical Activity
Engaging in regular physical activity is crucial for weight loss and overall well-being. Aim for a combination of cardiovascular exercises, such as brisk walking, running, or cycling, and strength training exercises to build lean muscle mass. Find activities that you enjoy to make exercise a sustainable part of your routine.
Lifestyle Changes
Weight loss is not just about diet and exercise; it often requires making broader lifestyle changes. Prioritize quality sleep, manage stress levels, and reduce sedentary behaviors. Small changes, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or incorporating short activity breaks throughout the day, can add up and contribute to your weight loss goals.
Seeking Professional Guidance
If you are struggling to achieve your weight loss goals or have underlying health conditions, consider seeking professional guidance. A healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or certified personal trainer can provide personalized recommendations and support tailored to your needs.
Staying Motivated Throughout the Journey
Maintaining motivation throughout your weight loss journey is crucial for long-term success. Here are some strategies to help you stay motivated:
Setting Short-Term Goals
Break your weight loss journey into smaller, achievable goals. Celebrate each milestone along the way, whether it's losing 5 pounds or fitting into a smaller clothing size. These short-term goals will keep you motivated and provide a sense of accomplishment.
Celebrating Milestones
Reward yourself for your achievements. Treat yourself to non-food rewards, such as a spa day, a new workout outfit, or a weekend getaway. Celebrating milestones reinforces positive behaviors and helps maintain motivation.
Creating a Support System
Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, or a weight loss support group. Share your goals and progress with them, seek their encouragement, and lean on them during challenging times. Having a support system can make your weight loss journey more enjoyable and sustainable.
The Benefits of Losing 35 lbs
Losing 35 lbs can have a multitude of benefits beyond just the number on the scale. Here are some advantages of achieving this weight loss milestone:
Health Improvements
Losing excess weight can improve various aspects of your health. It can reduce the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. Weight loss also improves blood pressure levels, cholesterol levels, and overall cardiovascular health. Additionally, it can alleviate symptoms associated with conditions like joint pain and sleep apnea.
Increased Energy Levels
Carrying excess weight can leave you feeling lethargic and fatigued. By shedding 35 lbs, you can experience a significant boost in energy levels. With increased energy, you'll find it easier to engage in physical activities, accomplish daily tasks, and enjoy a more active lifestyle.
Enhanced Self-Confidence
Weight loss can greatly improve self-confidence and body image. As you work towards your goal of losing 35 lbs, you'll notice positive changes in your appearance, fitness, and overall well-being. This transformation can boost your self-esteem and enhance your confidence in various aspects of life.
Potential Challenges and How to Overcome Them
Embarking on a weight loss journey is not without its challenges. Here are some common obstacles you may encounter and strategies to overcome them:
Plateaus and Weight Fluctuations
It is normal to experience weight plateaus or fluctuations during your journey. These periods can be frustrating and may lead to discouragement. However, it's essential to remember that weight loss is not always linear. Stay consistent with your healthy habits, reassess your eating and exercise routine, and consider consulting a professional for guidance.
Dealing with Cravings
Cravings for unhealthy foods can be a stumbling block in your weight loss journey. Find healthier alternatives to satisfy your cravings, such as opting for fruit instead of sugary snacks or enjoying a square of dark chocolate instead of a candy bar. Practice mindful eating and address the underlying causes of cravings, such as emotional triggers or boredom.
Overcoming Self-Doubt
At times, self-doubt and negative self-talk may creep in during your weight loss journey. Remember that setbacks are a natural part of the process, and it's essential to be kind to yourself. Focus on your progress, celebrate your achievements, and surround yourself with positive influences that uplift and motivate you.
Conclusion
Losing 35 lbs is a significant achievement that can have a transformative impact on your life. By adopting healthy eating habits, engaging in regular physical activity, and making sustainable lifestyle changes, you can embark on a successful weight loss journey. Stay motivated, set realistic goals, and seek support when needed. Remember, weight loss is a personal journey, and every step you take towards a healthier lifestyle is a step towards a happier and more fulfilling life.

2023.06.06 19:03 craisiny How long could it take for DKA to develop?

Species: cat
Age: 11
Sex/Neuter status: neutered
Breed: DLH
Body weight: 10 lb
History: EPI, IBS, corticosteroid-triggered diabetes
I just typed out everything below and sort of realized it wasn't relevant to what I'm asking, I'm just still so frustrated and it feels good to get it out I guess lol. Anyway, I can't find anything on the internet about how long it could take DKA to develop, except that it develops slowly. I'm not really concerned that he has it currently, he's been energetic and meowy since he got home, but his blood sugar was in the 400s for the past 6 days while he was being boarded. He obviously also has other medical problems and I don't know if they could increase the risk of DKA. He also very rarely shows symptoms of distress so I'm not even sure that I would realize if he had it.
I just had a god-awful experience with boarding my cat. I chose to board him at his vet because his blood sugar levels were a little out of control-dropping to 50 one day and then increasing to 400 the next. Of course, I took proper measures to treat the hypoglycemia. I've been going through this for a couple of years and know how to take care of him. I thought boarding him at the vet would be better than at a nonmedical kennel or burdening a friend with it and stressing that he wasn't being monitored at least for half the day. They chose not to administer his insulin, which apparently was decided before I brought him in for boarding??? No one alerted me to this until I was hundreds of miles away, which led to HOURS of being on the phone with his internal medicine doctor and his regular vet hospital. If I had known they weren't going to administer it, I would have brought him to a cat-specific kennel where he would have gotten proper attention or to a friend, rather than being left in a large cage for 6 days in the main medical office, which is noisy and often full of dogs.
TIA. Glad to be home and have him back.

2023.06.06 19:03 dont_drop_dat_phone Calling me on every single day off.

They say "I thought you wanted more hours?". Yeah we all do. But I also want to experience life outside of work. I also want to enjoy my days off in peace. Not with the feeling of guilt for not coming in. "But xyz are sick! But xyz's kids... But xyz's dog..." not my problem. Hire more people.
They say "You did write full availability when you applied." Yeah, all that means is when you make the schedule each week I have no limitations. That doesn't mean I'm on call every day, 24/7.
It's literally so stressful when they call or text trying to get me in. Hire more people!!!!!

2023.06.06 19:03 Sufficient_Natural_7 Unmedicated and fast graduation (FTM, 40+1)

FTM here (Netherlands), graduated at 40+1! Not sure if positive, I didn’t really experience it that way but i guess no birth is ā€œfunā€?
I was already dilated 3-4 cm on friday, my midwife was adamant about it happening fast as she was super low and my cervix was so ready but she’s been saying that for the past week so it was hard to believe. My water broke the next morning at roughly 09:00. No contractions, slight cramps but mainly the trickling leaking bothered me. Everytime I got up I had to run to the toilet so I wouldn’t soil myself lol.
At 18:18 I had my first sudden intense contraction, my first contraction was 10 minutes apart but at 18:28 they instantly became 3 minutes apart. Quickly called the midwife, she visited and basically said ā€œget your bags, we’re leaving!ā€ as I was already 8cm dilated (I wanted a bath hospital birth). We got there at 19:15 and there was no time to fill up the bath. It all went so fast that I had no time to catch my breath, no time for any painkillers and i became incredibly stressed to the point that the baby’s heart rate slowed down too much and didn’t recover. The doctors and midwives begged me at this point to breathe through my contractions but I just couldn’t stop pushing. It had been 6 minutes of I think a heartbeat of 60 or less. But now this meant either a c-section or vacuum, and we opted for the vacuum without episiotomy (husband knew I was very adamant about that so he made sure the doctor understood, which he wasn’t happy about). 11 minutes of pushing and at 20:30 she was out 😊 Small tear so the doctors were happy after all that i didn’t let them cut, I guess it was a team effort haha.
We’re now enjoying our tiny baby, at 2750gr she’s in the 2nd percentile šŸ˜‚ we were sent home 3 hours later and we have to keep her extra warm plus feed her formula next to breastfeeding. Our government pays for doulas for the first week who helps us with baby care, PP and household chores. Hubby hasn’t left our side being the best dad I could wish for (thank you parental leave) and it’s honestly been so dreamy!

2023.06.06 19:02 uhohvideo (31, m) genuinely lost, no job and need and need a path forward. what can i do?

this is not a sob story but it's gonna initially have some complaining. I've been a professional video editor for almost eight years now. I've worked full-time for two ad agencies a private school and a bunch of various clients in a freelance capacity.
i usually love video editing. it's challenging but I do feel like I've had some great opportunities and have grown a little. a little but not enough in eight years. the market is too competitive and after moving to NYC 1.5 years ago with no job, I have ended up with absolutely nothing.
I worked contract for my old agency (still technically do even though they haven't given me work in half a year) and got somewhat consistent work for the first half a year. then nothing. horrible clients exploiting me and lying about payment at every opportunity. and i've gotten fed up. there's no advancement in a thing like this. i'm getting no opportunities. zero. I feel alone. antisocial, and I need out.
the problem is there is no "out." I don't know what to do. I can't even get part time work. to me, i feel like i'm just trapped. every day is the same. it's hard for me to even get up in the morning when I know I just send a bunch of applications into the void. Honestly, even this probably will get lost in the reddit ether of people with the same problems.
here's what I know I'm good at: I am a good writer. I've written for a bunch of clients I won't list here, but that's even harder to find work. I would be interested in breaking into copywriting, but ad school seems like an absolute scam and I feel like I'll get disillusioned with that fast. I could apply for an MFA in creative writing but who knows if I'll get in or even if I do if that will lead to anything at all and I'm just biding my time?
it's hard to see everyone you know in the world doing the bare minimum and it feels like you can't even do that. i just want a bare minimum to get me through the day. what's a good place to start?
any help will be super appreciated. thanks.
*please don't say linkedin, indeed, ziprecruiter or staffmeup. i have tried and tried. there has got to be some alternative.
