2023.06.06 18:20 Book_Golem Battle Report (Soulblight vs Kharadron)
Well, I've finally played a whole five turn game of Age of Sigmar, with the latest General's Handbook and everything! I want to get into the habit of writing up battle reports, so here goes.
The Armies
My 1000pt list was the following:
Bloodline: Vyrkos
Leaders Wight King on Skeletal Steed (Warlord) ++General (Hunter's Snare)
Necromancer (Warlord) ++Waste Away ++Ulfenkarni Phylactery
Vampire Lord (Warlord) ++Spirit Gale ++Vial of Manticore Venom (bonus from Battalion)
Battleline 20 Skeletons (Galletian Veterans)
10 Skeletons (Galletian Veterans)
10 Grave Guard (Galletian Veterans) ++Greatblades
Other 5 Black Knights (Warlord)
3 Vyrkos Blood-born (Warlord)
Grand Strategy: Empire of Corpses
Total Points: 975
This is the list I used in my last game, with the intent that I don't need to learn any new units this way. I still don't have any Dire Wolves, so that's an aspect of Vyrkos I won't be able to take advantage of.
My opponent was running Kharadron Overlords. As I recall, it was something like this:
Sky-Port: Barak Murder-you-on-the-charge
Leaders Admiral ++Arcane Tome
Aether Khemist ++ Spell in a bottle (Purple Sun)
Aetheric Navigator
Battleline (I assume) 3 Skywardens
3 Skywardens
3 Endrinriggers
Behemoths Frigate ++Cannon ++Flagship
Grand Strategy: Keep the Frigate Alive (and also kill all enemy flying units)
It's sort of the opposite of my list - everything is fast and small units, while mine's slow and large.
Mission and Deployment
The mission ended up being Jaws of Gallet, the one where each round after the first the player going second can nominate an objective to be removed. I set up the table as a ruined city, with quite a lot of small pieces of ruins terrain laid out on a mat covered in cobbled roads. I'd intended for this to be a way to get the terrain out of the box prior to my opponent arriving, but he was happy with the layout (and naturally got to pick territory). Plus it's nice to play on a map that makes cohesive sense!
I deployed somewhat conservatively - the small unit of skeletons hanging back to hold my home objective, Black Knights and the Wight King on the left flank to run up and take the Northwest objective on turn one, the Necromancer and large Skeleton unit on the right flank to push for the Southeast objective, and the Vampire Lord and Blood-born taking the centre. The Grave Guard went into the grave, having been too slow to really help in previous games.
My opponent put his Navigator and Frigate on his back objective (Northeast), and everything else in the boat. I immediately worried about how I was ever going to catch these jerks.
Round 1
My opponent got priority, and gave me the first turn. I immediately advanced on both flanks and up the centre, taking four Objectives and scoring the Cunning Manoeuvre Battle Tactic (for getting my Necromancer onto the Southeast objective, which was in both our territories). Spirit Gale and Mystic Shield both failed to cast, heralding a depressingly familiar start to my spellcasting for the game.
I jumped the Grave Guard out 9" away from my opponent's Navigator, hoping for a long charge to take him out early. Alas, a 7 rerolled into a 7, and they sat around in front of the entire enemy army looking very vulnerable instead.
My opponent got things rolling on his turn, disembarking the Admiral and Khemist and moving them towards the centre objective, taking it from me (as the Admiral counts as 2 models, and either not all of my vampires were quite in range or we miscounted). Meanwhile, the Frigate itself advanced on my Necromancer's contingent, blasting away some of his defensive Skeletons. The Navigator sat on the Northeast point, and started slowing/damaging my units and giving a movement boost to the Frigate like a jerk. Also, the Khemist killed some of my Grave Guard and dropped the Purple Sun on my Blood-born.
The frigate charged my Skeleton Horde (with some of them reassembling in front of it), and both units of Skywardens piled out. Here I made another mistake, forgetting that the Necromancer can offload wounds onto nearby Summonable units, and one unit of Skywardens decided that they weren't having any of that 5+ Ward nonsense and murdered him. Ah well, he wasn't much of a minion anyway. The Skeletons held out though, and put a wound on each of the Skywarden units.
Round 2
My opponent won priority and decided to go for the double turn. Oof.
The Navigator chipped a few more wounds off the Blood-born and the Grave Guard, the Khemist likewise fumigating my wights. The Frigate remained in combat, though one unit of Skywardens peeled off to deal with my backline Skeleton unit. The Admiral charged my Blood-born, killing them outright but straying into pile-in territory of my Vampire Lord, who proceeded to beat him around the head with a mace for a little bit. The Skeleton Horde remained "strong", recovering plenty of models in the combat phase and then being reduced to a single unit champion remaining. This could have gone a lot worse. (Good thing that conniving Necromancer was dead, I might have lost the Skeletons if he'd been offloading wounds onto them!)
On my turn, I removed the objective my opponent's Navigator was sitting on. That'll tech him! I also used the Genera's Handbook Heroic Action Strike At The Opening to fight in the Hero Phase with my Vampire Lord, dealing a little more damage to the enemy Admiral. That guy is very durable! More skeletons regenerated, though tragically my Grave Guard weren't close enough to my Vampire Lord to recover any models. I also managed to actually cast Spirit Gale this time, chipping wounds off every enemy and slaying one Skywarden from each unit thanks to previous damage.
My cavalry swept in from the left, taking back the centre control point and giving me more lovely victory points. I had the Wight King hang back an inch or two to continue contesting the Northwest objective too. In the combat phase, many Skeletons reassembled, and my Vampire Lord weathered a beating but finally finished off the Admiral (immediately recovering damage taken thanks to The Hunger), scoring me The Choicest Vintage. Also, the sole surviving Grave Guard charged the Khemist, though failed to do anything of note.
Round 3
I won priority. Time for a counter double turn!
This turn I forgot to pick a Battle Tactic. My opponent was kind enough to let me pick one randomly when I remembered at the start of the combat phase, but there was no chance of completing This One's Mine by then.
A few key things happened this turn. First, I was reminded that Objectives in Age of Sigmar are sticky, and you don't have to leave units on them. Second, my opponent removed my backline (Southwest) objective, freeing up my Skeletons to move even if it wasn't sticky. Thirdly, my opponent got fed up of the Purple Sun and dispelled it - it was sitting in the centre of the board and making it risky for him to move his troops nearby, while I was basically ignoring it. (I failed to cast anything so his Navigator had a dispel left.)
I began moving my Skeletons towards the centre, while the Skeleton Horde continued to regenerate itself (and also move to retake the Southeast objective, now that it had enough models again). My Black Knights continued to sweep eastward, flattening the Khemist with 7 Mortal Wounds on the charge, and my Vampire Lord charged back South to deal with the separated unit of Skywardens, wiping them out in a single round.
My opponent Flew High with the Frigate, transporting the remaining unit of Skywardens and the Endrinriggers close to the Northwest objective. His Navigator slowed my cavalry contingent to a crawl, and plinked the last Wound off the Grave Guard in the Hero phase - I responded by immediately re-summoning them at the end of the Movement phase to contest the Northwest objective (and to distract from everything shooting my Wight King).
The Grave Guard ate a lot of fire, though not enough to save the mounted Wight King from taking enough fire to kill him too. That hurt, I needed units that can actually do damage. There wasn't much (or any?) combat this turn, just a lot of my important units getting shot. Ouch.
Round 4
I won priority, and so we didn't have a double turn this time!
On the other hand, my opponent removed the Southeast objective, leaving my Skeleton Horde hanging around a big hole in the ground rather than delicious loot. This turn, with thin pickings for Battle Tactics, I chose Endless Nightmare - unfortunately, my big unit of Skeletons was up to 14 models by this point; I'd need to revive four in the Hero Phase and then pass the 25% chance to reassemble the other two in the Combat Phase.
I pushed my forces towards the centre of the battlefield, my Vampire Lord flying 11" to catch up with the two units of skeletons, and my Wight King popping back out of the grave to get even more control on the central point. The Black Knights attempted a long charge at the Frigate, hoping to wipe out one of the units inside with a good set of Mortals, but even with a reroll they couldn't make it in. To make matters worse, I only revived one Skeleton in the combat phase, failing my Battle Tactic. All in all, I scored only a single point this turn, and things started to look grim.
In my opponent's turn, he chipped wounds off my cavalry with the Navigator again, shot the Black Knights off the table, and disembarked the Skywardens to take the central Objective. There was also a bunch of shooting at my Wight King, but in cover and with Finest Hour up he weathered the storm this time.
Round 5
My opponent won priority again, leading to the most double turns I've seen in a single game of AoS. I also completely forgot to remove an objective this round, leading to extra points scored for my opponent - whoops.
The Skywardens went Northwest to contest that objective against emerging Black Knights - my opponent had to choose between running (and preventing my Knights from taking the objective from him if they emerged on his turn by contesting it) or not running (and hoping that their ranged weapons would be enough to sweep the Knights if they showed up this turn). He chose not to run, resulting in only a single Skywarden being within 6" of the Objective. As it was, the Black Knights did not emerge this turn (I rolled for it though, which was probably a mistake).
The Frigate and the Endrinriggers then charged Wight King and both units of Skeletons. With everything together, (and a series of unlucky saves) the Wight King died again, leaving my opponent in control of both objectives. It was going to come down to the Vampire Lord to save the day.
On my turn I selected Eye for an Eye as the only Battle Tactic I really had a hope of completing. I needed to kill either the Frigate (unlikely, but wins me the game at this point) or the Endrinriggers (much more likely, but I wasn't sure it'd be enough), while also getting enough skeletons onto the central point to take it and getting my Black Knights back to take the Northwest objective. Yikes.
I started strong by casting Grinding Teeth of Gallet on the central Objective, catching the Frigate, Endrinriggers, and my Skeletons (oh no, not the skeletons). And then I flubbed all the rolls, resulting in no Mortal Wounds to anybody. Total effective spells cast this game: 1.
Next up, I moved the Vampire Lord into position for a 3" charge into the Frigate and successfully brought back the Black Knights! That's the Northwest Objective taken care of, along with my Grand Strategy.
Finally, the combat phase. The Vampire Lord made his charge, and immediately rolled five misses for his attacks. Oof. So much for taking out the Frigate. Due to poor positioning on my part, both units of skeletons had to split attacks between the Frigate and the Endrinriggers, though the Horde did manage to pile in close enough to the objective to take that for me too. It came down to the wire, but with Crimson Feast and All Out Attack active, the Horde also managed to kill off the last two Endrinriggers, scoring my last grasp of points!
Final result: 22 - 22, Draw
Phew!
I definitely made mistakes this game, but so did my opponent. I'm happy with the result - there were a lot of things that happened that could have swung it one way or the other, and in the end a draw honestly feels like a hard-fought victory!
Learning points
Battle Tactics are a really fiddly part of the game. I don't even have the six Vampire ones memorised, never mind the eight other options! That's definitely going to be a sticking point for me learning this game properly.
I really like the Vampire Lord, though I can definitely see why people like taking Legion of Blood for them - extra casting ability and more attacks would both have been very useful in this game. They're also not quite as damaging in combat as I keep thinking they are, which is something I'll have to keep in mind.
On the topic of casting: oof. One successful spell over the course of the game is not what I'd been hoping to see. Granted, some of those were dispelled by the Navigator, but I think I missed casting well over half of them in the first place - and losing the Necromancer early on didn't help with that. I feel like I'd like to be the magically dominant faction in most matchups (outside Tzeentch or Lizardmen), so more wizards might be the way to go. Or at least the Arcane Tome on the Wight King.
Vyrkos really didn't do much for me this game, though what it did do may have kept me in it. The 5+ Ward on the Skeleton Horde helped out on turn one, when the most damage was incoming; while the Wight King counting as seven models forced my opponent to make some riskier plays to take the central objective from me. I never managed to chain activate heroes and units, and as mentioned earlier I don't have the models for summoned wolves yet. I think I'll try out Legion of Blood next time for better Vampires.
I almost completely wasted the Grave Guard this game. A unit of ten Skeletons would have done better in their position. I think I need to keep them in the grave a little longer - if I'd brought them out a turn later they could have easily deleted the Navigator for me. (They were still useful for taking fire, but I'd rather not spend 140pts to do that when 85 would suffice!)
Kharadron Overlords are frustrating to fight against, but also Skeletons seem to be a great counter to them - coming back in the Combat phase means you can regenerate a lot of the damage that they do with shooting.
The Navigator is an incredible utility piece too - moving ships, dealing Mortal Wounds, and most annoyingly halving the speed of my units to stop them getting where I needed them to go. I know it's only based on rolls of one and six, but with a reroll each turn (from a command, I think? Or possibly an artefact.) he was able to get both effects off every round damaging multiple units.
The Frigate was cool, if infuriating. My opponent attempted to drop bombs with it in the movement phase exactly once, and came to the same conclusion I did about moving across enemy units: it's basically impossible. Doubtless there's some professional strategy for doing it consistently, but it looks to me like you'd have to start 3" away and fly over no more than 1" of model to get the frigate to fly over a unit given its base size.
We completed the game in somewhere over three hours. Not bad given that I'm still learning all the rules, but definitely something to work on.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and I hope this was enjoyable. I'm always open to advice - I know I've got a lot to learn about how the army works!
Next step: paint all the skeletons!

2023.06.06 18:20 DontTouchMeThere16 Gary The Goat (Part 2)
Hey everybody, so some of you must have seen my post last week about what a boss Gary is and how under appreciated he goes... ironically in the last episode of last man standing (episode 5) he tears a bees nest apart and feeds everyone, he also climbs a tree, and finds enough plums to feed everyone once again. Yes I admit he takes big risks, but I've seen him come out with big rewards after the fact. This guys P.S.R better be top tier coming out of this challenge I tell ya lol! Anyways let's hear what the community thinks? 😁🤣😂😋

2023.06.06 18:18 shirakumosgirl Dream experts HELP
Ok I’m writing this down quickly so I don’t forget, so forgive me if there are any typos. These last few nights I’ve had some strange dreams. The night before last night I had a dream that I was being guided through a forest by a tall lady with purple hair. She took me to an apartment complex that looked like the one I stayed at when I was a kid. Then she took me to my old school, and it looked abandoned but there was one light on upstairs. I remember grabbing her arm because I was scared and She then turned to me and said “don’t be scared, we’ve gone through this forest many times.” All of the sudden, I was trapped in a small room. I tried to turn on the lights, but they wouldn’t turn on. The only light that turned on was a super dim red light.. and then POW! A super big flash of light! And then I woke up. Now here’s the weird part, I felt the presence of my deceased cats (I lost them 6 months ago as of now) but I never actually saw them. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that they were here. It was such a strong feeling that I woke up crying. Dream #2 probably won’t be as detailed because I kinda forgot most of it already.. but this one is directly about Santisima. I was dreaming that I was changing the water on her altar, something I do every day, but this time the water was super cloudy and bubbly. It looked like watered down milk. While I was changing the water, the fire alarm in my house began to go off. I started to panic. But a few seconds later, the alarm shut off. I refilled her water and placed it on her altar and it began bubbling like crazy!! Almost as if it was boiling, but without heat. I remember trying to walk out of my room but I tripped over a metal ladder..? Of all things?? But yeah the dream ended there. I strongly feel like these two dreams might have meanings. All help is appreciated. :)

2023.06.06 18:14 Lord_Guyis Season 2 Episode 22 Anime and Manga Differences
Alright, here are the differences and comparisons between the anime and manga for season 2 episode 22. Standard disclaimers: 1. this is pretty much spoiler-free, I will only talk about the portion of content from the manga that was covered in the episode. 2. a difference one way or the other is not inherently a good or bad thing. I'll probably dislike the anime's changes, but those are my judgements, you have yours. 3. I am comparing the official english versions of the material that I have easily available to me, as such I'm comparing 2 different translations, I'm aware the two JP versions almost certainly have identical wording in most parts (and that Netflix is just using the manga lines, for the most part). With that said, let us begin.
This episode covers all of chapter 96 (including the cover page), all of 97 (though the order of it is mixed around), and the cover page for 98. Totaling 58 pages.
- Anime cut a quick reaction from Drott when the men yell at him to just finish Thorfinn off: "Shut up! Quit talking!"
- Cut bit from Drott thinking about how Thorfinn feels weird to hit: "...must be because he's so light..."
- Anime: "He's twisting his neck and hips just before Drott's fists hit him, thereby dispersing the impact away from the core of his body." Manga: "Just before the fist lands, he twists his neck or back to deflect the damage toward his center." So anime says its going away from his center, manga says its toward his center. Surely just a translation thing.
- Anime cut out a bit of a match cut when Einar remembers Thorfinn talking about finding the first resort. Going from Thorfinn's bleeding face back to his healthy face back in that scene when Thorfinn actually said that. Second one of these that the anime has cut (first was back at Canute talking with Harald/Sweyn's head)
- Tiny thing, in the anime Snake gets off his horse on the left side, where in the manga he gets off on the right side.
- Anime cut out a shot of Thorfinn noticing and looking over at Snake when he arrives, and Thorfinn then tripping which leads to him getting hit solidly by Drott. Second time the anime has cut out Thorfinn tripping in a fight (this was also cut/changed in the Snake fight).
- Anime: "You idiot. You're unbelievably softhearted. If talking could've resolved this, we'd have done that already." Manga: "You fucking idiot... You never even asked us... If we could settle this with dialogue, I'd have done it ages ago. I almost can't believe what a soft-hearted fool you are..."
- Anime: "Are you sure about that?" Manga: "Would you really?"
- Anime added a couple shots of the crowd reacting to Thorfinn yelling at Drott.
- Anime added a shot of Einar gripping Snake's arm tighter and a shot of Snake reacting to that.
- Another tiny thing, in the anime we hear Thorfinn getting hit 3 times over scenery/crowd shots before we fully cut back in and Drott hits him the 98th time. In the manga, there are the sounds of 6 hits over these shots.
- In the anime, Olmar is standing between Snake and Einar when we see him after the 98th hit. In the manga he's elsewhere in the crowd
- The quick shot going over the crowd after the 100th hit is fully mirrored from the manga, even flipping details like a man's forehead scar.
- Anime added Olmar into the shot following that^ one that goes over Einar and Snake because as stated earlier, he's now in between them in the anime where he wasn't in the manga.
- Anime cut out a shot showing Thorfinn wobble on his feet a little after the 100th hit.
- Anime: "I can't hit someone when I'm trying to negotiate for peace." Manga: "Who negotiates for peace by beating a man?" LOVE the manga translation here, always loved this line so I'm not huge on the anime version, though I know it's saying the same thing. Just a bit less impact, for me.
- Not a difference between the anime and manga, but note that the anime actually says hnefatafl now. Season 1 had Askeladd say shogi (both out loud and in the subtitles) where the manga said hnefatafl (even the JP version of the manga has furigana saying to pronounce "shogi" as "hnefatafl" in both scenes). First they actually start saying "Thing" this season and now we got "hnefatafl". Good job, season 2.
- Anime added the visual of the original Thors-Thorfinn "you have no enemies" scene. Manga just trusts that we'll remember one of the most important scenes in the series and I appreciate that. Hell, we got it retold to us just earlier this season, didn't need the reminder.
- Anime: "I don't have any enemies." Manga: "I have no enemies." I've also seen that netflix's version says "Nobody is my enemy." And yeah, I prefer the manga version.
- Anime added a quick shot of Olmar reacting to that^ line.
- Anime cut a small panel of Snake and Olmar reacting to the warriors making way for Thorfinn, Snake going "Whoa..."
- Anime: "We're going to see the man who starts wars. Don't you have things you want to say to him, too?" Manga: "We're going to meet the man who started this war. You've got some things to say to him, I expect."
- Anime: "You bet I do. A whole mountain of them." Manga: "I'll give him a piece of my mind! Several pieces!!" I have always felt this line in the manga was a little silly.
- In the manga, when Thorfinn and Einar walk towards the meeting with Canute, Thorfinn is holding his shoulder. The anime just has him walking with both arms at this sides.
- From here we've entered chapter 97. As I stated up above, the anime has shifted around a lot of the lines in the conversation. It would take too long for me to try and detail every little shift the anime has done here so for simplicity's sake, I'm just noting that all here in this one point and I'll be going in the order of the anime here from here on.
- Anime: "Pater..." "Don't look. If you find Pater among the dead, you won't be able to remain calm." Manga: "What if...amid those bodies...lies Pater...?" "Don't look. If we find Pater there now...we will hate Canute."
- Anime added the flashes of Thorfinn's POV from cutting Canute and seeing Askeladd's body back at the end of the Prologue.
- Cut exchange between Canute and Wulf as Thorfinn and Einar approach: "He does not seem to be armed." "No, but he is no ordinary man. Be careful of him."
- In the shot showing the two's eyes, in the manga the focus of the Canute shot is the scar on his cheek, which is not shown at all in the anime shot. I guess those flashes of Thorfinn cutting him were supposed to cover for that?
- Anime-original line for Canute: "No...for what happened to Askeladd."
- Anime: "I'm sorry about the scar on your face." Manga: "...Please forgive me...for your scar. I was possessed at the time."
- Cut line from Einar after hearing Thorfinn attacked the king: "...Ha Ha! You're one hell of a man, my brother!"
- Anime: "You've come to say some commendable things." Manga: "And you've become much more eloquent since we last met."
- Anime added the flash of Askeladd killing Sweyn. YES anime, I REMEMBER
- Cut line from Thorfinn after Canute notes that four years is enough time to change a man: "You've changed, too. You have the face of a man in power."
- Cut line from Canute that was in response to that^ line: "Hah... You sound just like Askeladd." So the anime and manga have there own different mentions of Askeladd.
- In the manga, when Canute explains how Ketil's family "started this", the visuals are a collage of panels from when that happened. The anime just has imposing shots of Canute.
- Anime: "Ketil's son Olmar killed ten of my men because I wouldn't make him one of my thegns." Manga: "Olmar, son of Ketil, displayed his incompetence, and then was angered when I did not make him my thegn...in the end, he slew ten of my men."
- Cut lines from Einar to Canute: "Olmar is a coward. He could not possibly kill a man. You set this all up, didn't you?"
- Cut lines from the vikings in the crowd and Wulf: "...Do you hear the shit he's spouting...?" "Stop. His majesty does not deny it."
- Cut line from Einar to Canute: "I bet you've never held a hoe in your life."
- Anime added the visual of the tilled field while Einar's talking, which is the same visual Einar sees back in episode 1 when Ketil asks if he'd like to come work on his farm.
- One more cut line from Einar to Canute: "Well? What do you have to say for yourself? Boss of the vikings!"
- In the manga, when Thorfinn mentions what Canute said back in Gainsborough he fully quotes Canute's lines, whereas in the anime Thorfinn more just summarizes what Canute said.
- Anime: "Do you still believe that?" Manga: "Do you still think that way? Do you still want to build a paradise?"
- Anime: "The commander who leads a thousand ships and ten thousand men." Manga: "I command a thousand ships, a million men."
- Anime cut some quick reaction shots of Thorfinn and Einar as well as the vikings and Wulf right after Canute commands the waves to stop.
- Anime cut a tiny bit from Canute's lines talking about his power: "Yes, it is meager."
- More cut lines from Canute: "Because beings who have forsaken love...are ordained to suffer."
- Anime: "But that is what humans are. Commiting sins as we wander lost is precisely what humans do." Manga: "Yet this is what makes us human. To sin and lose one's way-that is the human condition."
- Difference of visuals on these^ lines, in the anime it's an old viking tapestry, whereas in the manga it's a panel of men fighting that is drawn in pencil making the visuals strikingly different from the pen and ink drawings around it.
- Cut bits from Canute's lines: "I am the emperor of the vikings. And I defy the rules of God."
- Anime: "I'm gonna knock this guy on his ass." Manga: "I ought to knock you off your feet!"
- Anime: "Building a paradise, my ass!" Manga: "The idea that this will create a paradise is laughable!!"
- Anime added a quick shot of Thorfinn looking at Einar after he yells at Canute.
- Anime added a shot of Einar growling some more after Thorfinn stops him.
And that ends this one. Quite a solid episode though I, of course, have my gripes. Not a big fan of all the flashes of past events, like I said, I remember, and I appreciate the manga just trusting me to do so. Before you argue that it's been so long since season 1, it had been a similar amount of time (if not longer) between the chapters coming out in the manga. 40+ chapters between the end of the prologue and these chapters, at the least that's right around 4 years (and again the "you have no enemies" was already brought back up earlier THIS season). Aside from that I also really don't care for the art style of whatever animator was in charge of the big scene with Canute and then Einar yelling at him. They are clearly very skilled, but it just looks really ugly to me. Otherwise I did feel that all the important moments did land as they should have, so it was overall very solid.

2023.06.06 18:09 AMMVReddit P4G Double Review: Main Cast
(Spoilers for P5R and P4G)
I'm of the belief that a game can only start becoming truly great on its second run. The first attempt has a lot of advantage that can cloud one's perspective of its quality; innovative gameplay and story can mask other failures in the game. As such, I affirm that it’s upon the second and subsequent playthroughs that one is able to properly judge the execution of many elements of the game with the benefit of insight. Following this personal criteria, Persona 5 Royal passes the test with flying colors. I’ve played it thrice as of 2023; twice for myself and once with my sister who provided the perspective of a newbie. Each time, it gets better, with tears falling down my cheeks at the final battle against Maruki and the heartbreaking ending. Anyways, some time ago I completed Persona 4 Golden on my pc, and recently we managed to finish the game together on the Switch. My conclusion is as follows: While I believe the game held up fairly well on the second run, there were several disappointments and failures that lessened my enjoyment of the game on the first run, which were then exacerbated on the second attempt. In this post (I may tackle more latter) I'll review the main cast of P4G:
Excellent: Let's begin with the characters that were absolutely fantastic and I would describe them as being of the same level of quality as the main cast of P5R.
Yosuke Hanamura: A loyal, very likeable, and trustworthy friend whose always got your back yet is troubled by his past failures and the death of a close friend. Jokey, fun to be around, and immensely compelling, these are the qualities that I loved about Ryuji in P5R, and Yosuke carries all of them into this game. Additionally, he starts the game with a fantastic yet intimate personal conflict with his feelings of isolation in the town of Inaba and his desire for companionship and adventure. The death of his Senpai Saki takes us into an emotional rollercoaster that is developed in both his section of Yukiko’s dungeon and the ranks of his social link. I love the conclusion of his SL, when he releases all of his bottled-up sadness and frustration, as wells as jealousy and feelings of inferiority into an epic battle; his story culminates with him thanking you for being there to see both the best and worst of him and accepting him for who he is. Excellent. Bonus: Since it’s pride month, I’d like to add that I would’ve loved for Yosuke to be a gay option for Narukami, as I believe his development could have easily evolved into genuine romantic feelings for the protagonist.
Kanji Tatsumi: He’s 100 percent the absolute biggest surprise for me in this game. Prior to picking up the game, I was aware of the some of the “discourse” surrounding Kanji; I did not know what the discussions were about, just that there was allegedly some controversy regarding the writing for his character that may have been related to the LGBT community. Regardless of what the “discourse” may be, it is with great pleasure that I get to say that Kanji is a strong contestant for one of the best characters in fiction that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He manages to balance a perfect mixture of sweet, kind, wholesome, endearing energy of a young boy learning who he is, combined with a more aggressive, hotheaded, and reckless personality that creates lots of personal conflict. His journey of self-acceptance has to be one of the absolute best things I’ve ever experienced, magnifically combining simple execution and complex/layered themes. His dungeon is a fantastic and outlandish display of his insecurities and setbacks, which he must overcome if he is to live without shame. Finally, every single one of his ranks in his SL is great, there’s not a single one that feels dragged out or unnecessary; each and every one is focused, compelling and fascinating, revealing much about himself and how he intents to grow as a person. Excellent.
Rise Kujikawa: Another absolutely fantastic character. Nuance, complex, compelling, lovable, these are just a few of the words that come to mind whenever I think of Rise Kujikawa. The contract between the manufactured Risette created for the sole purpose of selling as many consumer goods as possible, and the simple and troubled girl Rise that’s loss grasp of who she is creates a wonderful treat that enriches the mind. Additionally, Rise has to be one of the most likable, funny, accepting, and understanding characters in the game, while also being a little full of herself and manipulative (in an endearing way). A great and outlandish dungeon serves as the perfect foil to a very personal and intimate struggle to understand herself. My favorite part of her character has to be her SL, which explores how being an idol affected her mental and emotional development. In the beginning, we are able to see Rise as she wants to be seen, just a simple, normal, kind, and flirtatious girl, perhaps like many others around you. But throughout it, she’s constantly haunted by her idol life, taunted with what she could still have as the perfect Risette that can charm all hearts. I love how heartbroken and full of despair she is when it’s revealed how easily she can be replaced and abandoned, and how it compels her to reflect upon the reasons she wanted to become an idol, and of what good she can do by being one. It’s because of this wonderful and excellent character development that I always choose to romance Rise whenever I play the game, no other girl had such a compelling character arc, and she stands firm as one of the best characters in the Persona series. Excellent.
Very Good: This category is for characters that don’t quite reach the level of writing and execution as P5R but are still pretty good.
Naoto: Falling just short of my personal favorites we have the Detective Prince. I'm glad we were given an ample amount of time to get to know "him" as the intelligent, mysterious, and meddlesome detective in Inaba, just to flip the script to reveal her feminine side. Not a particularly surprising turn of events, but it was well executed and provided a fascinating look into her inner struggles. While similar to Kanji in many ways, I did find his journey of self-acceptance more interesting and compelling than hers, though still great in her own way. Speaking of Kanji, these two are just perfect for each other and I will never get in between them, nor would I ever dream of taking Naoto away from Kanji, so no romantic option for me, ever. For the SL, I found her journey of rediscovering her passion for investigation endearing and compelling, and her eloquent conversations were a rare treat among the main cast. Additionally, I did appreciate that the voice actress managed to convey different levels of "masculinity" and "femineity: in her voice performance for different circumstances; that's very commendable and it allows us to understand a wider range of the emotions displayed by Naoto. Overall, while I would not say that the quality of her writing and character arc are as compelling as the ones above her, I’m able to see why she is a fan favorite. It definitely helps that she keeps getting better with every playthrough that I complete; thus, I would not be surprised if in a couple of years, she becomes one of my favorites characters in the series. I welcome the possibility with open arms. Very Good.
Meh: This category is for characters which, through a combination of success and failures, incited indifference from me. Not great, not horrible, just okay.
Yukiko: Overall, her character adds to a somewhat passable and kind of dull experience, with not much to stimulate the mind. Her dungeon was a good start to the story, though it is somewhat overshadowed somewhat by Yosuke's internal struggles at the beginning. Chie is there too, but I'll get to her later. I was very pleased that her SL did follow up on her desire to leave Inaba and become independent. If I can give Yukiko credit for something, is that her story has a clear direction and progress can be easily tracked; focus is something that she shares with the individuals above her and makes her story more tolerable. Still, most of her ranks just kind of blend together with not much to say about each individually, something that I would not say of other characters. I was honestly not a fan of her decision to stay in Inaba and work at the Inn; I would have preferred for her to commit to leaving the town she grew up in and become an independent and mature adult that’s able to overcome all the challenges that come with pursuing freedom. It was one of the best moments at the end of P5R when your friends decided to go their separate ways to follow their dreams, even if it means you'll never see each other again. I was hoping she would rekindle the emotions of such an iconic moment, yet it never came to pass. Nevertheless, I understood her final decision to stay, and I respected it, acknowledging that it followed naturally from her past experiences. In terms of personality, she’s again kind of bland, nowhere near as funny, compelling, endearing, or smart as Makoto or Hifumi from P5R, who followed a similar archetype. As a result, I do not think she adds much to the story after her dungeon and feel that she could easily be cut from the rest of the story. Still, I know I chose to complete her SL, not because of obligation but because I genuinely wanted to, and that's got to mean something. At least, something more than what I could say about some other characters, but again, for later. Meh.
Teddie: The voice performance and dialogue are my two main issues with Teddie. He falls more into the insufferable side of meh. While his personal story is well incorporated into the themes of the game, I rarely found him to be amusing or endearing. I think it’s the higher pitch and bratty voice that spoils most of his good moments. I also sometimes find his approach to the female cast kind of cringy and tiresome. Still, he's in this category for a reason. While far from perfect, his relationship with Yu and especially Nanako can be very endearing and sweet, and his comedic moments can sometimes land very well, like in the school cross-dress event. And again, he's very well incorporated into the theme of facing one’s true self, so bonus points there. It’s just unfortunate that there’s a constant layer of annoyance that overlaps all over his good attributes. Meh.
Bad: Chie
Chie: I hate Chie. No need for any preambles or to mince words, I just straight up don't like her. I see her character as a compilation of the worst parts of Yukiko and Teddie with none of their good attributes. Time to dig in, cuz I've been hungry to talk about her.
Nothing against the voice actress, but Chie's voice has to be one of the most insufferable, annoying, earsplitting, and infuriating ones I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Even if her character were to be just as good if not better than those at the upper level, just like Teddie her voice performance completely overshadows any goodish qualities she may have. I’ve scoured the internet for a pc mod that would allow me to replace her voice with that of the voice actress of vanilla P4, which I believe gave an infinitely better performance. While I can tolerate and sometimes appreciate the voice performances of Yukiko and Teddie, no moment ever feels like is improved by Chie's voice, it’s always made worse off. For the cherry on top, her personality is just so unappealing. Annoying, bratty, unappreciative, and condescending, all of these qualities are further enhanced by the voice performance, and I don’t see much meaningful personal improvement throughout the game. She doesn’t add anything to the group dynamic either, which just serves to annoy the crap out of me. She's the one character that I would completely remove from the story if I had the power to do so. Just the worst.
Remember how I mentioned one of the silver linings of Yukiko's story was its focus. Chie's is the complete opposite. She starts well enough. While she has to share the limelight with both Yukiko and Yosuke, her inner desire to control Yukiko out of jealousy was interesting and well communicated. I honestly think that if she had been allowed to have her own dungeon, it could have been a good and compelling character arc. As is, its ending is somewhat short but sweet, yet still appreciated. It’s all downhill from there. There is almost zero direction to her SL, with an insufficient and very bare theme of "gotta get stronger to protect those that I care about" that’s not executed with any nuance or interesting moments. As early as Rank 3 it becomes a matter of obligation, completing her SL for the sake of completion rather than for any eagerness to know more about her. It took me a long time to finish her SL too, as almost everyone else, main cast or otherwise, offers me more than Chie ever did (save for the nurse). She's just stale at best with nothing to meaningfully think about, which only got worse upon repeated playthroughs. I could say a lot more about her, like a lot, but the point has been made and then some. Very Bad.
Overall Group Dynamic: I'll keep this short, since there's only a few things I wanted to convey. For a while now, I've been hearing the following opinions: P3 = best story, P4 = best cast, P5 = best gameplay. As such, I was very curious to see how good the cast of this game was, though I did try to keep my expectations in check. If you've read up to this point, you can already predict my answer: NO. I do not believe that this cast is in any way better than the P5R cast. My reasons are simple: at best I truly and genuinely enjoy about half of the cast. For Yukiko and Teddie, their contributions range from somewhat annoying to kind of bland and pointless. And for Chie, all that she adds for me is annoyance and anger. Every single member of the Phantom Thieves bolstered my enjoyment of the game, and I cannot say the same for the Investigation Team. Additionally, because the game has big chunks of time where nothing plot-related happens, it relies way more on the dynamics of the main cast than P5R does, so many of the bad attributes I’ve elaborated on stand out way more with the greater emphasis on quantity over quality of interactions. Kinda of a shame that great characters have to stand beside 2 disappointments and 1 failure, but it is what it is.
Final thoughts: I'm pretty satisfied with my analysis of each individual. It was great to experience this cast, and I wouldn't mind doing another run with the Investigation Team. Still, there are big issues here. The highs are very high, just as good as the P5R cast. But the lows are very low, far more than I would have expected and downright bad. I'm happy to hear criticism of my post, but it may take me a little while to answer. I apologize for any delays on responds, but I hope that you've enjoyed this post.

2023.06.06 18:08 Sdfoxmama I’m a disabled single mother, living with Nmom, enabler father and my 6 year old
I didn’t recognize the abuse patterns until just a few years ago, I knew it was happening, in my gut I just knew that something was off.. something big.
But my mom was a middle school teacher, everyone’s favorite teacher it seemed like. I used to always hear things like, “your mom is the best teacher I’ve ever had, you’re so lucky to have her as your mom!” I would just smile and nod, thinking how much I wished that person was my mom too… but she never was. Not to me at least. She was a completely different person towards me.
When I was 16, an invasive procedure was performed on me, that I never should have even been offered, and unfortunately I ended up with a spinal cord injury that caused he to develop an extremely painful chronic neurological spinal disease called Adhesive Arachnoiditis. I didn’t have the support I needed to navigate the situation, and so I ended up being mistreated and gaslit by both doctors and my family, and told that it was my fault for choosing to have sexual relations with my long term boyfriend…what those two things have to do with one another is beyond me, but I was just a teenage girl against a bunch of adults who, instead of listening to what I had to say, just dismissed my feeling and everything I had to say about my experience.
Sadly, I lost the arbitration, and did not manage to get an accurate diagnosis for 20 years. This happened to be right after I made a medical decision that would make my condition much worse, and the progression is irreversible.
Things got extremely hard after I progressed so much after giving birth to my son, I had a newborn baby, had just undergone an emergency cesarean section, was rehospitalized for postpartum preeclampsia and almost died, and was now suffering on a much more severe level, every moment of every day. Needless to say, my relationship with my sons dad had no chance, and when we split, I was forced to move back home with my Nmom and enabler dad, and would have my son half the time.
I can no longer work, and am bedridden several days every week. I have to rely on the help of my mother especially, just to be able to find enough energy to be a good mom to my son despite the pain, and now emotional tax of living in this environment. I’m working on getting SS disability, but am having trouble getting it done with no support, and have already been denied and appealed many times. Somethings things seem ok for a while, but they always blow up eventually. I know that I need to get us out of here, for the sake of my son and myself… but I have no idea how to even start. I don’t think I can do it on my own. I’m terrified. But, she’s starting to target him.. and after a year of parent child interaction training therapy with his dad after he had a mental health scare at only 5 years old, he’s finally doing so much better mentally, emotionally, socially and academically, he’s thriving. I’m trying so hard to shelter him from the abuse, and from having to witness me being abused (he always tries to protect me, and it’s heartbreaking), but sometimes it’s just not enough. Any advice? I feel so stuck. I’m not even permitted to stand up to myself or for my child, boundaries are viewed as an attack on them, and now my Edad is blindly and aggressively defending any and all abuse that she dishes, and unless I allow her to use my feelings as a punching bag, and don’t complain about it or try to remove myself from the situation, he will just scream at me, and will dismiss anything I try to say, even help me.. he is only concerned for the narc’s feelings, he has no regard for anyone else’s, including himself. I have ptsd from an abusive engagement with a BPD/covert narc about a decade ago, and when men yell at me now, I crumble. It terrifies me to my core.. which he is aware of… but I know he will never stop blindly going to battle for her. Even when she admits that she was wrong, it doesn’t matter, in his eyes, I’m still the one who caused harm to his queen.. even when I’m very clearly not.
Any statement about how much this is all affecting me, how much it’s affecting my child, damaging our mental health, making my physical health so much worse and so much harder to cope with, even when my 5 year old was being evaluated for suicidal ideation at only 5.. it’s all scoffed at. We are not important. it is always their feelings that are more important, and they are never willing to make any changes, say they shouldn’t have to change their behavior in their own house. My mom will just say that her PTSD is worse than mine. I don’t know where to go from here. I need help.

2023.06.06 18:08 ACleverForgery As a player, how talk to my DM about dissatisfaction with a world that is too forgiving?
A little vent about my most recent game.
My DM seems to be going easy on us, and I don’t know how to tell him that for me, it makes the world feel more real and role play/mechanics more satisfying when NPCs aren’t always forgiving and obliging.
Our party was outside of town when we got word that our barbarian’s NPC love interest had been kidnapped and taken to a noble’s manor in a violent altercation that left bystanders severely wounded. We hurried back to town, and broke into the manor to rescue her. Most of us wanted it to be a stealth mission. I came in the front door as a scout, lookout and distraction (bard asking about auditioning for an upcoming festival, and then asking to use the washroom upstairs), but the barbarian couldn’t wait - she killed two guards and left the lady of the house tied up and unconscious. The fairy ranger cast Charm Person on the nobleman, and the druid panicked and summoned a swarm that caused lots of chaos and property destruction.
Turns out it had all been a misunderstanding - the NPC had been safe the whole time! The man who kidnapped her isn’t evil, he’s basically a sad self-sacrificing puppy who only wants to have a scary reputation so that he doesn’t actually have to hurt anyone!
The NPC and her “kidnapper” emerged from another room, saw the chaos and convinced the nobleman (who had broken out of the charm and was furious at being mind-controlled) to let us go. So ultimately some NPCs saved us from other NPCs/the consequences of our actions. It certainly was a relief not to have the nobleman call down a squadron of guards on us, sure, and it was the end of the session anyway. I wasn’t bothered yet.
In the morning, then nobleman sent us an invitation to meet with him. We already had plans for the day, and when we asked to delay the meeting, we were told “sure, tomorrow is fine too”. Maybe the DM wanted to give us some breathing room after the chaos? It felt like meeting with the nobleman was important to get around to, but not urgent at all.
The NEXT day (so, a good 36 hours after invading the mansion), we arrived for brunch with the nobleman. I prepared an eloquent apology before the session, using my in-character knowledge of his pride and sense of duty to the town, his violent tendencies (we had found a prisoner in a closet, whipped within an inch of his life), the importance of maintaining the “all is well” facade, etc. As the bard and party Face, I am already pretty charismatic, but I cast Enhance Ability on myself to be extra persuasive.
The DM never asked for a single persuasion roll.
And it wasn’t like I got “wow, that was great, you don’t even have to roll for that” kind of feedback. The nobleman didn’t act proud or violent or delusional like we’d been told he was by every other NPC in town. He seemed like an exhausted parent, like as long as we weren’t outright rude to him and acknowledged that what we did was wrong, he would have let us off the hook. He even mentioned he knew we had met with a rival noble house after the altercation in his home, but that didn’t seem to bother him. He barely seemed angry and made no real demands of us - letting us choose between community service and time in the stocks as punishment. And when we said we had been planning to leave town to help some local merchants, he said, “sure, that counts as community service. “
After the session, it took me a few days to realize why I felt kind of deflated after that session. I felt superfluous.
I don’t know if this is anything worth bringing up to the DM, and if so, how I should do it.
He knows I’ve run this adventure as a DM before, and I want to be clear that this has nothing to do with “your version of the characters is wrong”.
How do I say “when NPCs save us, or don’t make us earn our victories, it can feel like the work I’ve put into my character is wasted” and “do the nicer-than-expected versions of all these NPCs mean something in-game? Is this a sign that this noble is actually a flawed yet ultimately good and trustworthy guy? Or do you as a DM just not like role playing bad people but our characters should still be afraid of them? Informed evil, vs visibly evil?”
K this is long, thanks for getting this far. Thoughts welcome, just be nice to me, please.

2023.06.06 18:07 Guyrannosaurus The Dragon Knight (AI generated build)
I just discovered something wonderful, you can use AI to build the basis of your builds based off an idea. I have made a few so far, but I was so excited about this that I made a reddit account after lurking for years in order to share with y'all my favorite / the one I intend to play in my next game. I have also included the prompts I used. Let me know what you think!
Prompt: "Using elements from fallout 4 and full creative liberty, write a detailed pre-war and post-war character backstory as well as armor and weapon ideas based on the following prompt: Upon escaping vault 111 and finding the world destroyed, he loses his mind and thinks he is a fantasy hero called "The Dragon Knight" who has to avenge his wife and save his son from an evil order of mages."
Nate was always a nerdy kid who loved comics, especially Grognak the Barbarian. He even created his own tabletop RPG character based on the comic, a brutal warrior named the Dragon Knight, who wielded a sword and a shield and wore a dragon-shaped helmet.
Nate grew up in a turbulent time, as the United States was engaged in a long and brutal war with China over natural resources. He felt a sense of duty and patriotism, and he decided to join the military when he was 18. He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, and he proved to be an excellent soldier. He was trained in using power armor, which gave him an edge on the battlefield. He fought bravely in several battles against the Chinese forces, earning medals and commendations for his valor.
His unit nicknamed him "The Dragon Knight" after his tabletop RPG character, because of how effective he was in power armor and because Nate often joked that he was fighting dragons instead of communists, and that he was looking for his princess in the wasteland. At times he could be brutal, being the soldier his country needed him to be. His bravery and conviction lead him to be merciless yet effective in the heat of battle. He had a dark side buried under his joyful and nerdy exterior, one that only his enemies ever saw.
After the war Nate met Nora, a young lawyer from Boston, at a comic book convention. They instantly hit it off, sharing their love for comics and RPGs. They got married soon after, and moved to Sanctuary Hills, a peaceful suburb near Concord. They had a son, Shaun, who was born in 2077. Nate was overjoyed to be a father, and he hoped to pass on his love for comics and RPGs to his son. Nora even surprised him by programming their personal Mister Handy, Codsworth, to call him "Mr. Dragon Knight" as a prank.
On October 23rd, 2077, Nate was preparing for an event at the Veteran's Hall in Concord, where he was supposed to give a speech about his war experiences. He was nervous but excited, and he hoped to inspire others with his story. However, his plans were cut short when a Vault-Tec representative visited his family to inform them that they had pre-approved admittance into Vault 111, a nearby underground shelter. Moments later, a news bulletin warned them of an imminent nuclear attack, which forced Nate, Nora and Shaun to rush to the vault, leaving Codsworth behind.
After entering the vault, they were placed in cryo-sleep by the Vault-Tec scientists, under the guise of decontamination. Nate had no idea that he would be frozen for over two centuries.
In 2227, he was disturbed from his cryogenic sleep by Conrad Kellogg and two unknown Institute scientists, whose intention was to acquire Shaun; as his DNA was the 'purest' source available to the Institute for their experiments. Nate watched helplessly as Kellogg shot Nora dead and took Shaun away. He tried to break free from his pod, but he was too weak and fell unconscious.
He woke up again in 2287, when his pod malfunctioned due to a power outage. He found himself alone in the vault, surrounded by dead bodies. He managed to escape from the vault and returned to Sanctuary Hills, where he found Codsworth still functioning.
Codsworth greeted him with joy and called him "Mr. Dragon Knight" as usual. However, this triggered something in Nate's mind. The trauma of losing his wife and son, combined with the shock of seeing the post-apocalyptic world, had shattered his sanity. He could not cope with reality anymore.
He started to believe that he was actually The Dragon Knight, his tabletop RPG character. He thought that he had been transported to a new unknown land. He thought that Nora was his Queen who had been assassinated, and that Shaun was his heir who had been taken away. Both crimes committed by a secret dark order of mages and their army of undead abominations. He thought that Codsworth was his loyal pet dragon, and that his power armor was his dragon armor.
He decided to embark on a quest to find and rescue his family. He would stop at nothing, and once again became the warrior he needed to be, becoming equally as savage and brutal as the new realm he found himself in. He also hoped to find other heroes who would join him in his quest. Such as Grognak the Barbarian, who gives Nate his trusty axe as a sign of their brotherhood.
"Thank you, now create a standard build for that character using starting perk point allocation, and important perks. I would like it to be vats centered due to using Grognaks axe. Make it viable for survival mode."
Starting SPECIAL:
Strength: 9 Perception: 1 Endurance: 3 Charisma: 1 Intelligence: 6 Agility: 3 Luck: 5
Important Perks:
Strength: Big Leagues, Blacksmith, Rooted Perception: None Endurance: Toughness, Lifegiver Charisma: None Intelligence: Science!, Nuclear Physicist, Armorer Agility: Action Boy/Girl Luck: Bloody Mess, Idiot Savant, Better Criticals, Critical Banker
Build Explanation:
Strength is still the most important stat for this build, as it increases melee damage and allows access to perks like Big Leagues, Blacksmith, and Rooted.
Perception is still not important for this build, as you will be relying on V.A.T.S. to hit your targets and not aiming manually. Endurance is still moderately important, as it gives you more health and allows access to perks like Toughness and Lifegiver.
Charisma is still not important for this build, as you will not be using it for dialogue or settlement building. Instead, you will use Idiot Savant to gain more experience despite your low Charisma. Agility is less important for this build, as you will have less Action Points due to your high Strength and Intelligence. However, you still want to have some Agility to access perks like Action Boy/Girl, which increases your Action Point regeneration.
Luck is also less important for this build, as you will have less critical hit chance due to your low Luck. However, you still want to have some Luck to access perks like Bloody Mess, which gives you more damage and a chance to make enemies explode, Better Criticals, which makes your critical hits do more damage, and Critical Banker, which lets you store up to four critical hits for later use.
Intelligence is significant for this build, as it gives you access to perks that enhance your power armor performance. Science! lets you modify your power armor with better effects such as jetpacks and stealth fields. Nuclear Physicist makes your fusion cores last longer and lets you eject them as powerful explosives. Armorer lets you improve your power armor’s defense and resistance.
This build is viable for survival mode, as it can deal massive damage with melee weapons and survive a lot of punishment with power armor. However, it may struggle with enemies that attack from a distance or have high armor. You may want to carry a backup ranged weapon for emergencies.

2023.06.06 18:07 kiscsuri Help! My duck has symptoms
I acknowledge that Reddit is not a substitute for veterinary advice.
The issue happened today at 5 PM. My mallard duck couldn't stand up, and her head was just slightly wobbly after searching trough the mud. This went on for thirty seconds after I gave her water. After that She slowly got up after thirty seconds and proceeded to walk after the duckling(not hers, but it is rescued and she became her New mom)still a little wobbly. It's almost like She lost the ability to balance for a minute. My father says it was something like epilepsy. After two minutes she was perfectly fine like nothing happened. She is three years old, lives with two other ducks and the duckling and a white bunny who is usually the victim of duck harassment. She has two pools(both deep enough to bathe), and a big beautiful garden with lots of grass. She is the only one with the symptoms. The others are fine. This only happened once before one year ago but that time was hailing and she was looking up like it was the end of the world. The current symptoms looked worse. She has an angel wing and not she's not injured. She stopped laying eggs two weeks ago. She gets fed twice, once in the morning and at night. I dont think it's her food since the three of them have been eating the same for the past two years. And the other two would probably have symptoms too. They are happy together and dont hurt each other. They are all mallards. She's been acting normal like Always before the symptoms. And She acts normal right now again. The symptoms came and went. She has never gotten any remedies(im pretty sure that means treatment)before, her food is just casual duck food from our local shop. We havent been to the vet. We have never been because She was fine. She is always kept outside in the garden, and at night She gets put into a smaller part of the garden.
What could this be?

2023.06.06 18:06 anon_stranger98 Betrayal in Old School RuneScape: An Update on Seeking Justice
Greetings again, fellow adventurers,
First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Old School RuneScape community. Since my last post detailing the heart-wrenching betrayal I experienced, I have come to realize that for every deceitful individual, there are countless good-hearted players who are willing to lend a hand in times of need. Your support and kindness have been a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
Now, let me provide you with an update on the case involving the person that scammed my loaned items, the individual who callously abused my trust and stole the valuable gear I had loaned him. Determined to seek justice, I turned to the vigilant and dedicated team at RuneWatch for assistance. They guided me through the process of gathering solid evidence and provided invaluable advice on how to proceed.
I must emphasize the tremendous amount of time and effort it took to compile irrefutable evidence against you... The RuneWatch team showed unwavering and unbiased commitment in thoroughly examining my evidence to ensure a fair judgment. Their dedication to maintaining the integrity of the game and protecting its players is truly commendable.
However, I must also shed light on a disappointing aspect of this ordeal. When I reached out to the Old School RuneScape team for assistance, I encountered a roadblock. Despite the severity of the situation, they were unable to provide me with a simple trade log, which could have served as crucial evidence. It is disheartening to realize that as a player, I do not have direct access to such important information. I implore the game developers to review their policies and consider providing players with better tools to protect themselves in situations like these.
It is important to note that the loan trade was ultimately my responsibility, and I accept that. However, it does not excuse your actions. What he stole belongs to me, and he should be held accountable for his deceitful behavior. Furthermore, I discovered that he had been attempting to convince others that I had scammed him, a desperate cover-up attempt to evade responsibility. This manipulative tactic only serves to deepen the wounds caused by his actions.
So, I address this directly to you, man-to-man: It is time to reassess your actions and do the right thing. The gear you stole from me represents countless hours of hard work and dedication. You know the truth, and deep down, you understand the pain and disappointment you have caused. It is never too late to rectify your mistakes and restore faith in the community.
To my fellow adventurers, I encourage you to remain vigilant and cautious. While the actions of a few may tarnish our experiences, let us remember that the majority of players in Old School RuneScape are genuine, kind-hearted individuals. Let us continue to support and be there for one another, and together, we can ensure that acts of betrayal like this are not repeated.
TL;DR: An update on the betrayal I experienced in Old School RuneScape reveals the support I received from the community and the efforts made to seek justice. Despite encountering obstacles in gathering evidence, RuneWatch assisted me in compiling a strong case against the perpetrator. I urge the game developers to improve tools for player protection. Meanwhile, I call upon you to reconsider his actions and return what rightfully belongs to me. Let us stand united against deceitful acts and foster a community based on genuine trust and camaraderie.

2023.06.06 18:05 thebossofme888 Two things I want concerning starfield npc’s
Radiant AI : not asking for much, just npc’s smart enough to sustain their needs, and have their own opinions/views/way of living (this can make an immersive randomness that could create funny and unexpected experiences within the game. Like a beggar starving could steal food from someone/a stand to sustain they needs and depending on the npc he will call the law enforcement or fight/pursuit the robber himself.)
Organic factions : one of my fav mods in Skyrim is the one called organic factions, when factions fight independently and gain territories on their own, and if you fight or kill certain people from a faction they would start to hate you and send people after you to get you, likewise you could join one after doing certain tasks/quests. For putting the organic part into perspective, after cleaning the bandit hideout near whiterun, Balgruf boys will territorize the hideout for them, and bandits could attack the hideout to get it back. The tension between various factions also affects the in game economy. Now imagine this on a space scale, Factions could colonize entire planets independently, ships wars will happen without our need to be in it and the game world will always change with whats going on.
PS : These two features knowing there is more than 200k+ lines of dialogues give the game the probability to not have radiant quests feel generic and repetitive. Knowing bethesda I keep my expectation in check, but I wish that the possibilities are much more open than drive here get that fly there kill them and others annoying MMO types. It’s not really about the missions but more about the way you could go about it, like idk, you got send to kill someone but you have the ability to speak with the person you suppose to kill, and you could team up with him and betray the people who sent you on a mission originally, because he also have his own agenda and he not a bad person per-se, so if you are more inclined with the morals/side of the story of the original target you could team with him. it would truly be a game changer
These things are what could makes the game feel alive and immersive in my opinion, but even if they not there, im sure these things will be modded anyway. Thoughts ?

2023.06.06 18:05 ApparitionofAmbition Please just keep walking
This is a rant. I have a highly reactive shelter rescue pittie mix who reacts to all dogs. We have been working hard and we have made some progress but this is the one piece that just infuriates me.
If I'm walking toward someone with a dog and I can't avoid them passing me, I'll take my dog aside as best as I can and just focus on managing her until the other dog passes. I always warn the other owner - "she's going to act like a jerk, I'm sorry."
So why - WHY - do so many dog owners think it's ok to STOP WITH THEIR DOG and chitchat with me? Why do they let their dog STAY WITHIN 5 FEET of my pulling, barking asshole of a dog while they STAND THERE and watch? Why would anyone think this is a good idea?
Recently my dog and I were at my complex's dog park that has a sidewalk right along the fence. My dog can't get out but can stick her head through the bars and snap at other dogs, which is why I grab her by the short leash attached to the back of the harness and pull her away when I see another dog coming. HOWEVER, this guy decided the proper thing to do was to stop with his two big dogs on the sidewalk and stare at me while I'm holding onto my lunging dog. Just stare. For a solid minute. Then when my dog got out of my grip, went barreling at the fence, and snapped at his dogs, he got startled and jumped back, then yelled at me to "control your dog!"
I'M IN A PEN. My dog is contained. I'm holding on to her. All you have to do is KEEP WALKING and your dogs will be saved the drama but you chose for you and your two dogs to stand there and stare me down for whatever reason.
Just. Keep. Walking. Please!

2023.06.06 18:04 Joanne_August My colleague keeps snapping at me, but is nice to everyone else
So, I waitress as a side job. I really like the job all in all and intend to keep it till I've finished my studies in about nine months (which is a fairly long time), but during the last couple of months, some issues have come up that I don't really know how to solve (or feel unable to).
Specifically, there are two colleagues who both make it very clear they don't like me in their own ways. That's fine - it's their right, they don't need to be friends with me. But it's really impacting the work environment and I think even the guests are starting to notice the tension.
Both colleagues are a lot older than me, have full jobs at this restaurant and are "shift supervisors" if they're there, so naturally I respect them as an authority and don't really dare confront them like I would colleagues of my own age. I have no issues defending myself if I'm being wrongfully accused of something, but I do have a terrible fear of specifically addressing interpersonal issues.
But let's roll back a bit to what's actually going on.
Colleague 1 is your average witch a woman in her late 30's/early 40's, overly correct, very confident and communicates a lot just through looks; also the "I wanna speak to the manager" type. She is nice to the guests, but she spends a lot of time standing around near the bar and just chatting - while being completely unaware of her own bad work ethic. While she is standing around, the rest of us is cleaning up tables etc.
We're not supposed to take orders, that's what she's there for, but if it's just one or two drinks, it's okay and we can just tell her rather than telling the guests to wait for her which is unnecessarily complicated. This is causing a LOT of problems, because every time one of us tells her just one or two drinks some guest ordered, she grows increasingly frustrated - I mean, how dare those people order drinks, right? And I wonder why they tell us the order, given that she is never around (I hope you spot the sarcasm).
A couple of weeks ago, she suddenly pressed her lips together like a 7th-grade drama queen and went, in the smugliest tone: "Uhm, do you go around taking orders or do I?" I wish I'd just said, "well, you're not doing it, so somebody has to", but in that second I was in too much shock to say anything. Oh yes, there were guests sitting right behind us who could definitely hear her.
This is not the only issue. The other is that she doesn't like me and shows this very clearly. Colleague xy (everybody loves her and rightfully so!) tells a story, this woman (let's just call her Karen because it fits) laughs heartily, comments the story, tells a story of her own. I say literally anything, she rolls her eyes, simply ignores me or mumbles an uninterested "aha". Those two opposites often appear within seconds of one another. As I said, she doesn't have to marry me, but a little human decency never hurt anybody!
Colleague 2 is a man my father's age (and actually knows my father which is just perfect. He himself is also the father of my first crush, so let's just be glad that crush never got anywhere). I respect him a lot more than I do Karen because he actually does his job properly, explained things to me properly when I first started and is generally, while a little quiet and dull, a pleasant person to be around.
I've been working there for about a year and a half, and during the last half year or so, I've started to notice that he has something against me as well for some reason. I get a snappy comeback at a reasonable (or not reasonable, what does it matter?) question while my colleague xy gets asked what she does for her holidays. She makes a mistake, he laughs it off; I make a mistake, he doesn't trust me with anything anymore and treats me like an idiot.
Whenever I'm nervous or in a situation unknown to me, I start asking questions. This male colleague doesn't like questions at all, even if they're justified and prevent a potential disaster. Just yesterday, I asked whether the table I assumed was reserved for a group was actually the right one - because obviously, I didn't want to seat them at the wrong table. He just snapped back at me to seat them at any godd*mn table and that it absolutely didn't matter. Okay, fine. A couple of minutes later, a lady orders a glass of water from me, I tell him: "The lady from table 123 asked for a glass of water." He snaps: "Did she ask for it or did she order it?", then rants on about how he apparently explained this to me already (I had no idea what he was talking about, he never explained anything remotely in that direction to me). What the heck is the difference? I expressed myself badly, okay, but that's no reason to treat me like some stupid child!
In comes another group that reserved a table. "Really, this one?", they ask. Apparently they want some privacy because they have to discuss some business that is really not for everyone's ears. Completely helpless, I tell them I'm going to ask my colleague, so I go back to the front and ask him what I'm supposed to do. He completely loses it, yelling that I know every table in this restaurant just as well as he does, and I also know that at each table, somebody might end up sitting at the table next to them, and so on. Yes, my friend, that's exactly the issue, you've got it. I didn't come to you looking for some secret table I didn't know about, but because I wanted help in finding the best solution for the current problem.
I get that he wants me to be independent. But every now and then, I'm going to come across a situation that I haven't dealt with before and don't know how to, and it should be okay to ask for help in those cases (especially if he doesn't have anything else to do in that instant)! Anyway, this was my breaking point. I think the guests overheard my colleague, because when I came back to them, they just accepted the table. I basically just shrugged, then found a quiet corner and cried - I can always keep my composure at work, but yesterday was too much, I couldn't hold back the tears. Colleague xy saw me, handed me a tissue and comforted me. The rest of the evening went fine, my male colleague was nice (I'm suspecting he either heard me cry and felt guilty or colleague xy actually talked to him about it).
But the general issue is still there. I know the solution in both cases is to confront them, but I have huge issues with confrontation. I don't know what to say, when to start a conversation about this, and how to not turn it into a drama where all my insecurity and immaturity shows and I end up just looking like an overly sensitive idiot who can't take a tiny bit of criticism - because that's not it. I can take criticism. I just can't take being those colleagues' punching bag anymore.
I should say that I have no issues with our other colleagues - including the boss. There was once a misunderstanding with one of the cooks that was resolved (though only with my brother's help - he works in the kitchen) and everything is fine now. I also confronted my boss when he sent me to an all-night-job at a wedding without telling me before. He explained someone had gotten sick and he didn't have a choice, and everything was fine. BUT confronting someone about their behaviour towards me? That's simply impossible.
Any ideas? Anyone with similar experiences?

2023.06.06 18:02 TheChosenAlpha Need help deciding between Sony A80J and LG A1
So I was planning on buying a new TV and my two main options right now are to either buy a 55 inch Sony A80J, or a 65 inch LG A1. Both are approximately the same price.
I mainly intend to use the TV for movies and PS5 gaming (however I mostly only play single player games so I doubt 120hz would help).
I get that the A80J gets brighter, but is it significant enough to make a big enough difference? Because getting a 65 inch tv is preferable.

2023.06.06 17:52 RetroVibe240 Specific help for Driver Timeout Issue?
| I have a Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT GPU with a Ryzen 7 5700G CPU. For over a year, on and off, I've been getting these driver timeout errors, but lately they've been getting ridiculously frequent. I have nothing else open, and I just open some simple app with a picture (like a Reddit page of Discord) and it crashes and goes black screen for a couple of seconds, with this pop up error https://preview.redd.it/ba9dpyr46f4b1.png?width=360&format=png&auto=webp&s=08461fd5c2ea17d4bb729e5b7f34e7ecb090203f I have a custom desktop with an ASRock B550 motherboard, mini ITX form factor. All my drivers on the computer are up to date, including the Radeon one. I also installed the Adrenalin Software for what its worth, but I hear some people recommend removing it. Sometimes I do remove it and it seems to help for a bit, but then the issue returns or changes a bit or gets worse. Sometimes I roll back the driver and it seems to help a bit, but again eventually the problem catches up with me again. Then I reinstall the software, and again same story after a while. It happens sometimes when starting games, like on Steam or Blizzard or EA or whatever, but I don't . It doesn't often happen in the middle of a game, but a few times has. Usually I can tell when it's going to be more stable ahead of time. A reboot often helps for a bit but now it hasn't been. Now it's happening left and right with almost every app, and once recently the whole screen got all screwy looking. Like certain Discord server pages that have images on them are causing it to insta-crash, for example, and it's crashing on Chrome randomly as well, even as I load Reddit up. I've gone several weeks or a couple of months with no issues in the past few years, followed by times with intense issues all the time. Sometimes updating to the latest version makes it worse, and sometimes better. I don't think its a problem with overheating, at least not most of the time, from what I can tell. ** I recently did a BIOS and chipset update for the first time in a year or so and it did seem to remove the problem for about two weeks, but then it came back with a vengeance. Now it's happening half the time I use the computer, and sometimes a reboot helps, sometimes it doesn't. Some of the games that worked fine before even while having the crashes, like Assassin's Creed, are now not progressing past the main menu screen and stuck at 1 FPS. Most other games are not even launching, EDIT- i was temporarily able to fix this last part as it seemed Windows couldn't find or use the proper driver and I had to reinstall it. Was stable for the better part of a week but after a power outage ran into crashing issues once again. Other things I've tried is making a registry edit to disable multi-plane overlay as per a guide, and setting the AMD program as high performance with Windows. Also set power plan to best performance, ran Windows updates, did sfc scans and DISM, created a TdrDelay regedit, and several other things, to no avail. Does anyone know a good fix for this? Is it my card itself (which is about three years old)? Do I need to tweak the settings? I'm not a big hardware guy. submitted by RetroVibe240 to AMDHelp [link] [comments] |
