This is a long backstory sorry. Hi, I (24,f) have been working on average 60-72 hours a week (have worked a couple of 84 hour weeks) sense the end of 2021. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and was like damn… I don’t got shit. I would only have $1,000 max to my name and at 23 was still living at home with my parents. I have never had any alcohol or drug problems. I guess, I just was terrible at saving, was only working part time with barely livable pay. I realized I had no one to depend on, besides myself. So I left my low paying job and found a decent paying job that allows me as much overtime as I desire. That’s exactly what I did, been working my butt off. I’m starting to get my life together. Putting 95% of my check in my saving (wish I would of known about high yielding savings accounts sooner but oh well) and 5% going into my 401k (not a lot but hey starting somewhere). So far, as of March 2023, I have $80k saved up. With projected of $130k saved up at the end of 2023. I should also have my bachelors degree at the end of 2023. Lot of sleepless nights, lots of back breaking work, lots of missed out experiences but hey I know what I’m working toward. I have no student loans or credit card debt. My car is paid off and I plan on keeping it until it dies or until I one day have someone who loves me enough to get married and start a family. My car is not really built for a family. It is nice for a 5’3 female. I was hoping someone could help/give me advice on my next steps. I have had my heart set at buying a house by myself. I will not have a co signer and don’t plan on putting 20% down. I was hoping FHA or Conventional for 10% down and 3-4% toward closing on a budget between $300-350k. I plan on putting sweat equity into my home because I know I won’t get a turnkey nice home in the area I prefer. This will be new to me. (My brother is electrician so will pay him for that and find a plumber). I have never done any flooring (vinyl or laminate) , panting (inside and out), cabinetry (plan on sanding down and panting), I have no clue on what brands have good appliances (fridge with water and ice maker, gas/electric stove, microwave, washedryer) and really any other upgrades I want to do around the house. My family and friends have their own lives, so I plan on doing all maintenance by myself. Any suggestions on where to start? Any good YouTubers to watch that either build homes from flooring (but actually show you step by step how to put things together) up? Any tool sets/brands you recommend I buy? Any good security systems/smart house upgrades? Are there obstacles I can’t do on my own? Where do I start? My plan was 1st: security system (house alarm, ring doorbell, cameras all over) 2nd painting inside house than outside, 3rd: flooring, 4th: Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, 5th: new appliances, 6: little upgrades I want to do such as (black kitchen faucet, back shower faucet, black sink facets etc). I don’t even want to get started on furnishing. I have no interior designer in me, so I will get there once I buy the house/townhouse. I was just trying to learn more about how much I can personally do on a home that will help me save money at the end. All advice is appreciated and thanks for reading. This is my first post. (:

Moissanite is a popular alternative to diamonds in jewellery, but where did it come from? The story of moissanite begins in the late 19th century with the discovery of a new mineral in Arizona by French chemist Henri Moissan. The mineral was later named after him, and it was found to be made up of silicon carbide.

This is a noncanon story intended to be a sort of "tie in" to the Jenkinsverse taking place a while before the Vancouver Incident. I'm intending to expand the lore a bit in a few areas while still honoring what's already considered canon in the universe. If I get anything wrong lore-wise, scientific-wise, grammatically, and so on, please don't hesitate to offer criticism. Feel free to let me know if you like the story or not or if you just think it's a steaming hot pile of pure assplay. This is not only my very first attempt at creative writing, but it's my very first time posting to Reddit so forgive my ignorance if you can. I'll release Chapter Two very soon if people like what I've written thus far. Even if they don't, I'll release it out of spite anyway because life is pain, and that pain needs to be shared so we can all grow together. All alien measurements are posted with brackets and their Earth equivalents.

Eight years before the Vancouver Incident
Elijah Prince awoke from a dreamless sleep, rising sluggishly from a hard floor to his full height. This was not the canvas cot upon which he had fallen asleep. Alarm bells were ringing in his head. His first instincts were to survey his immediate surroundings. He was completely naked. He hadn’t gone to sleep naked. This…this wasn’t good. A nigh profane understatement to make as he was encased in a clear…containment dome of sorts reinforced with bands of some unknown alloy of metal. The floor was apparently made of the same light gray material. The rest of the room was smooth, curved, and eggshell white. Were it not for the floor serving as an explicit contrast, this room looked like Steve Jobs’ idea of Purgatory. It was pretty Men in Black in design and appearance, albeit this room was undeniably a work of nonfiction. No, sir. This was all Papa Reality’s doing for sure. Dark yellow, holographic symbols (characters?) were vacillating in a fidgeting manner upon a darkish green background holoscreen of sorts all around his…”cage.” Maybe “bubble dome” was more accurate. No doubt the holographic panels were some sort of monitoring system. Medical data? Measuring his vitals? Checking the salinity of his piss, maybe? Only God knew at this point. A single, ovaloid door (also white) marked the singular entry/exit of this relatively roundish, white/gray purgatory of a room.
“Aliens. I been abducted by fuckin’ aliens, man.” Elijah’s Tennessean drawl echoed inside the confines of his bubble dome. He sighed and began massaging his freckled temples.
“Okay…why? By whom? For what purpose? How do I get my happy ass outta’ here? Should I even try to escape?” He rattled off his thoughts in rapid succession.
This room was clearly no work of humanity. If he was abducted, should he attempt an escape were it at all possible or would any attempt at such result in his untimely demise? Maybe they just wanted to probe his asshole and drop him off at a random bus stop on Earth afterwards like a cheap whore after servicing a morbidly obese, divorced dad in his Ford pickup at two in the morning? None the worse for wear? Worse for wear? If he cooperated, maybe they’d let him go. Maybe he should acquiesce to their twisted anal desires. Or maybe they’d turn his big, ginger ass into a vat of soylent green. Anything was possible at this point. Panic was quickly building in Eli’s brain, but he fought it down. He was used to extremely stressful situations, but this was definitely new territory for him. Where was he precisely? He was probably in space despite the lack of an exterior view of his alien iPod room allowing him a good confirmation of his assumption. He doubted he was in some secret government facility deep underground beneath the Himalayas or some shit. Unfortunately, Eli didn’t have the time to fully ponder his prospects for a proper course of action. The ovaloid door slid open with a resoundant Hiss! revealing a…well…it was an alien standing in the doorway.
“You gotta’ be fuckin’ kiddin’, man. Ain’t no damn way.”
It was the quintessential “Gray.” It was the stereotypical gray alien with the bulbous head, big black, ovaloid eyes, and spindly limbs. Frail looking. About three feet tall. Give or take a few inches. Naked as a jaybird. No dick was visible. Not good. Eli didn’t trust anyone or anything that didn’t have a dick. If you Googled “alien,” an image of this little fucker would likely pop up as the first search result. There might be green and blue variations of the gray skin tone, but it would be pretty damn similar. Elijah would have immediately accepted a squid man. Or a bird man. But this? Was this really an abduction or an obscenely elaborate prank? No. Occam’s Razor. What if all those country ass farmers who got anal probed weren’t just describing their delusions of experiencing a real alien abduction after having crushed up and snorted twenty Benadryls? What if the consistency of the aliens’ appearance was the result of a real, shared experience by dozens if not hundreds of backwoods corn pones having just been ass blasted by a cabal of extraterrestrial ass fetishists? Eli really hoped the anal probe thing was a bit of fanciful embellishment and not literal. He really didn’t like anything near (let alone inside) his asshole for a wide variety of self evident reasons. The red haired man was so busy postulating about the creature before him and its potential motivations that he hadn’t realized that the damn thing was trying to talk to him.
“Human. Male. Thirty two [years] of age. You. Yes, you. I know you can understand me. You’ve been fitted with a translator.” True to the gray’s word, a small, white orb was clasped to the front of Eli’s left pectoral by some sort of hooking mechanism akin to velcro, albeit it was affixed directly to his skin. He realized that he was hearing two voices: one was the high pitched babbling of the gray’s native language while the other was the English language albeit pronounced by the little alien’s voice.
“Who are you? Why am I here?”
“It’s none of your concern. You are Test Subject Red. Your species’ physiology has quite a few…unusual characteristics. This is a research vessel in Dominion Space dedicated to studying the anatomy and capabilities of emergent species. Your species is of great interest to the Corti Directorate. You will perform a series of tests. We will collect data on your performance. If you cooperate and allow us to collect the desired amount of data, you will be released unharmed back upon the surface of your homeworld. If you refuse to cooperate, then a paralysis agent will be vented into your containment vessel, and your body will be vented into the vacuum of deep space. Do you find these terms amenable?” The alien’s voice was decidedly male despite being high in pitch, albeit he couldn’t be certain. These things might not even have genders for all he knew.
“No. I don’t find ‘em amenable in the damn slightest, but I don’t got no choice now, do I?” A thin “smile” unmistakably curled on the face of the smug little xeno’s face. All in all, this was a shitty first contact with an alien species.
“A choice between life and death is no choice at all, true. You will be tested soon. For now…sleep.”
A cacophony of hisses beckoned a pale yellow gas into Elijah’s transparent prison. Darkness overtook him.

“I still don’t understand why you felt the need to talk to that thing, Ranit.” The Corti woman was rubbing her temples with exasperation as she and Ranit were observing the red haired human stomp its way into the first test chamber from the live feed screen of the monitoring station.
“Jekra, you’re an expert in xenobiology, but you’re woefully ignorant of psychology. This thing is sapient. No matter how brutish it appears to be, it’s capable of reasoning. I had to establish dominance and lay out the situation, or the human wouldn’t comply with the testing.”
“We could have just used the shock floor and positive reinforcement to get it to do what we need it to. No need to bloviate, but I suppose that would deprive you of your monologues.” Ranit sneered at her. She despised her superior, but what could she do? The Directorate had put his smug ass in charge.
“Is the promise of returning it to its homeworld alive not “motivation” enough, fool woman? You’re not here to question my decisions. You’re here to collect biometric data. I am the director of this operation. Now proceed with the first test.” Jekra swallowed her pride and nodded in agreement.
“Human. Approach the weighted bar on the stand before you.” The red haired primate obliged…begrudgingly. It was angry. That much was clear. No matter.
“Using whatever passes as your primary means of conveying objec-”
“Hands and arms, you mean.” Jekra recoiled slightly.
“Yes.”
“Pick up the weight?”
The human stomped up to the pedestal, allowing Jekra to get the closest look yet at the newest addition to their research vessel. It was…terrifying to say the least. Well, all humans were terrifying, but this one was an exemplary candidate to being the veritable embodiment of that word. Humans were short by Galactic Dominion standards, but this one still towered over them by at least the height of another Corti…and a half. Give or take. Its skin was fair complected. Almost pink. Covered in reddish mottlings. Its entire form swelled with powerful muscles. Its face was brutish and primitive. A very short main of red stubble stood atop its domed skull. Its face was covered in a hefty patch of hair of the same color. It had two, forward facing binocular eyes. Rather than being a single, black lens as with a Corti, its eyes were comprised of a tiny black pupil surrounded by an intensely azure ring which itself was surrounded by a layer of pure white. The eyes were horribly hostile and alien. The eyes of a predator. Its reddish form was completely nude which was completely acceptable and normal for Corti who had a genital pouch to conceal their privates…but this thing? Its massive phallus was swinging gently back and forth with each stomp of its brutish feet like a pendulum and was highlighted by a tuft of reddish hair above it…like it the penile protrusion itself had a head of crimson hair. She was disgusted but fascinated all the same. You had to come to grips with being grossed out in order to study the biology of aliens after all. She was already aware of how powerful the immune systems of these creatures were. The suppressive implants and injections that had been performed on the human while he was unconscious were holding back the veritable deluge of nightmarish microbes within and without the red haired beast…which again begged the question as to why her boss decided to potentially risk being infected and wiping out the ship with Deathworld superpathogens just so he could “show the human who was boss?” Jekra had no idea. Maybe Rankit had a tiny cloaca or something.
“What kinda’ lift do you want me to do?” Jekra was taken aback by that question. What “kind” of lift? She hadn’t thought about it initially in her excitement to document this alien’s strength. It made sense, though. It would give her a good read on different groups of muscle engagement. But that bar was incredibly dense and designed to be impossible to lift off the floor let alone allow for “different lifts.” It was firmly bolted into the pedestal. The point of the test was just to examine the amount of force exerted upon it.
“Any lift that would be sufficient.”“Sufficient? In what regard?”
“Just good enough.” The big human was clearly getting frustrated.
“Now how do I know what’s “good enough” fer yer precious ass? “
“I…uh…simply lift the bar as hard as you ca-” The sound of squealing metal and electrical cords ripping from the hollow tubing within the pedestal resounded throughout the test chamber. The monstrous alien had managed to lift the entire, obscenely heavy bar over his head.
“There. Fuck it. Clean and press. Happy, shithead?” She was not happy. She was feeling an entirely different emotion right now that was worlds apart from happiness.
“H-how!?” She glanced over to the shorter male. Ranit was equally shocked and dismayed.
“Gravity here’s weak, ain’t it? I already pieced that together when I was walkin’ over here. Let’s keep the ball rollin’. I got shit to do.”
“I-I, yes. Okay. Proceed to the next room.” The red monster grinned and jauntily stomped through the next door to the adjacent, cuboidal testing chamber…all the while carrying the ultra heavy bar over his shoulder like a toy.
She was stunned. Her boss was stunned. The entire point of this series of experiments was to measure the agility, strength, and endurance of a peak performance human and compare it to the examples they had on file of “average” humans to discern any weaknesses and/or ascertain what physiological aspects of the species they could potentially exploit for their own gain. But this? That bar had been bolted to the pedestal. It was so dense and heavy that it had to be loaded onto the ship and pedestal with heavy, industrial anti-gravity pads used in starship construction. There had been multiple force transducer sensors that were intended to relay the force imparted to the bar when the human (supposedly in vain) attempted to “lift” it. The biometric sensors in the room measured what and how many muscle groups activated when straining against something incredibly heavy. This was to be cross referenced with the data from the “average” human control to attain the [sarcomere] length and [myofibril] count in each muscle group as they were contracting. However…the force transducer had a hard limit of [205 lbs.] The human had produced considerably more force than that to rip the bar sheer from its bolting. But…how? The human control group wasn’t capable of this! Not even close! How strong could these apes get?! Ranit was the first to break the silence.
“H-he’s heading to the next chamber. We…should focus on whatever data we’re capable of collecting. We’ll worry about the implications of this first test later.”
For once, Jekra was in complete agreement with him. She followed Rankit over to the observation glass of the next test room. She wanted to get a good look at what this human was truly capable of with her own two eyes this time in case the cameras had malfunctioned or something. Not likely, but a scientist always strove for certainty.

Eli was a happy boy. Each test had been a complete breeze. That bar had clearly been weakly fastened with a weak set of bolts. All he had to do was deadlift it from the pedestal and snatch it into position for a good press. It was a hell of a lot lighter than they had made it out to be. The agility test had been just as easy. It’d just been hopping from one elevated platform to another. The fifty pound bar on his shoulder was hardly a problem. Microgravity was pretty fun, he had to admit. The sheer shock and panic the (female?) voice exhibited whenever Eli did basic bitch, vanilla shit brought him an alarming amount of joy as a bonus. However, the entire time he was performing the tests, he was scanning for potential exits and structural weaknesses in the test chambers. Those flimsy ass ovaloid doors wouldn’t be enough to stop him, but he needed to have a better understanding of the layout of this ship. After the (male?) alien had provided him the ultimatum, it solidified one, crude fact about his tenure aboard this ship: These aliens likely had no intention of setting him free whether he cooperated or not. Anyone who delivered a promise of freedom with the threat of death as an alternative never intended to make good on the promise of the former considering how it required an immoral calculus to even propose the threat in the first place. It implied that Eli was entirely replaceable and/or a liability if he survived. Otherwise the threat wouldn’t have been needed or even imposed post-capture. These aliens were smart, sure, but they were oddly naive considering their intellect. The aliens didn’t even question why he was bringing the weighted bar with him.
They probably thought it was some sort of oonga boonga ass, primitive trophy for the human to show off later…Eli knew there would be now “later,” though. The bar was actually hollow. One end had been shorn open with his prior exertions. A small, rubberlike gasket was dangling from an electrical wire of sorts with an opening in the center. Some kind of electrical insulation. It was just big enough for the human to get a seal on his face around it, beard or no beard. He had crammed the gasket and wire into the hollow bar. Perfect. An improvised oxygen canister. The air was thinner here than on Earth, and the O2 would be pretty stale and unpleasant to breathe, but it would at least give him enough air to stay conscious long enough to maybe identify whence they piping in that knockout gas in his containment bubble. Maybe he could find a way to clog the vents. Hoping was better than nothing after all, and Eli was hardly willing to leave his survival to the whims of his abductors. One of the things he’d learned during his SERE training at the MRTC was that anything is a tool/weapon with enough creativity applied. Adaptability and improvisation were often the difference between life and death in a situation like this. Eli continued on to another strength test while swinging his bar back and forth to “force” more air into it. He wasn’t sure if it would work or not, but it was better to try than do nothing. The human proceeded to the middle of the large, white, and cuboidal room. A massive, metal crate of an unknown alloy sat in the middle of the room with a series of horizontal lines spaced an equal distance apart from one another. An unknown alien script was at the exterior of each line likely serving as a denotation of distance. It was pretty obvious what they intended he should do. The (female?) alien voice from before chimed in over the comms.
“Alright, human. Your next tes-are you seriously going to carry that bar with you everywhere?”
“Yeah. It’s mine. I earned it.” It was a stupid answer, but they already assumed him to be a knuckle dragger…a smart knuckle dragger but knuckle dragger nonetheless.
“Don’t even think of using that thing as a weapon. We’ll vent the room with paralytic agent if you try anything.” The (male?) voice could be heard quietly in the background (whispering?) He didn’t know he could be heard in the test chamber apparently.
“Don’t worry about the bar. We’ll confiscate it from him after he finishes this last test when we vent the room. We’ll void him out the airlock afterwards once we get the data. He can’t do any damage with it.” Anger flushed Eli’s face, but he kept his emotions in check. It confirmed his suspicions.
“Alright…the object of this next test is t-”
“Push the crate as far as I can. The lines measure the distance I pushed it.” The female (Eli was now banking on these aliens having genders) voice was clearly annoyed at being interrupted.
“Yes. Correct. Commence testing. Take your time.”
Eli quickly scanned the room. This was going to be either his final few minutes of life or the time he made a daring egress from an alien vessel. He looked up at the wall opposite of the one he was standing…yes. Perfect. Eli grinned. A reflective panel of (glass?) was visible high up on the wall. He bet that was a two way mirror of sorts. A potential exit. Judging by how light the gravity was here, he bet he could bust right through that. And the crate? Perfect. Eli took a series of deep breaths and charged the massive metal crate. He pressed the hollow bar against it and pushed with all his might. The crate was a LOT lighter than it appeared to be as seemed to be the theme out here in spooky space. Only about 300-320 lbs. Eli himself weighed 315. Hell, he could’ve picked up the crate and ran with it like an atlas ball if it weren’t so damned bulky. The smoothness of the floor also helped a lot with his forward momentum. Before long, the crate was rapidly sliding towards the far wall. Closer. He needed to get closer. The female voice was counting in fives for each measure of distance he pushed. 5, 10, 15, etc. He could hear the astonishment in her voice, but that astonishment turned to confusion when he passed the final distance marker…and kept going.
“Stop! You’ve completed the test!” Eli ignored her and continued pushing.
“Stop, you imbecile! We command you to stop pushing!” Eli ignored her. The massive crate slammed against the far wall with a resounding echo and such force that the glass panel vibrated. Perfect. That was definitely an observation area.
“Finally, you stupid primitive. Not that it matters. We got the test data we needed. Time to say goodby-hey, what are you doing?!” Eli quickly leapt atop the metal crate. He looked up at the glass panel. The male voice chimed in with a panicked tone.
“Jeckra! Vent the test chamber! He’s trying to climb up here!!”
“How?! That’s impossible! We’re [15 feet] away from him up here!” They really shouldn’t have told him that. These aliens didn’t handle stress terribly well.
“Just do it, damn you!!” The sound of hissing filled the room.

-Install crew comes on-time. We mostly talk to the two head electricians, but everyone is very professional. We get them pizza the first day and wraps the second. Tesla is a little surprised, but they go with the date we set. I'm guessing the city kind of blew Tesla off when they called, but was willing to accommodate us, the persistent resident.
-Inspection goes well, and we get PTO early/mid-January!
-After messaging Tesla a few times about fixing the drywall (and almost giving up), they finally tell us that someone is coming over to fix it! This was last week. It took a lot longer than expected, but they fixed the holes in our garage drywall very well.
All in all, a very good experience. I was honestly just hoping that we'd have the install done by this summer. Also glad we got everything done well in advance of the NEM change.

People say that the time between install and PTO is when Tesla drops off the face of the earth, but we didn't experience that. We didn't really have to contact Tesla between install and PTO because we were focused on contacting the city and SCE. That's the one tip I'd leave everyone with - be very persistent after install in contacting the city and your energy company to setup the inspection. Tesla usually sets all that up themselves, but we were able to push things forward a ton by doing it ourselves. I don't know if it's because Tesla is slow at that stage or if the city/energy just drags their feet when Tesla contacts them... just make the calls and get it done yourself. Once we got that early inspection appointment, Tesla was onboard.
The system itself has been great. 14.4kW with 2 Powerwall+'s. No issues whatsoever. So far it seems we got a big enough system, though we'll have to wait till summer when the AC is on to know for sure. In February, we generated 1447kWh and sent 722kWh to the grid, so I think it's looking good!
Funny story: between ordering and the install date, we have a door to door solar guy knock on our door. After mentioning we already signed with Tesla, he asks how much we paid. I tell him, and he immediately drops the salesperson persona. Says something to the effect of "that can't be right", tells me how bad the service is etc., then tells me to contact him when Tesla falls through. It's pretty sweet to look back on that now. I know that might sound like some thathappened story, but I honestly think anyone who has solar salespeople come by their houses regularly will not be surprised.

After the most recent update, the battery percentage is completely gone once your battery is low. Now it just shows you some arbitrary time, (which hasn't been correct for me). So basically my phone just keeps turning off from insufficient battery because I have no idea how much battery I still have.
Who's idea was this? Absolutely awful
Of course, you can still open the settings to see your percentage. But what an awful design decision. Especially because Android already has 2 different types of battery-displays to begin with: one, when the notification-bar is pulled up and one when the notification-bar is pulled down. But they've removed the actual percentage from both displays

I bought one of the highest selling cheap aftermarket ac adapters off of eBay recently and it felt significantly lighter than other $5 chargers I’ve purchased years prior.
It makes a noise when charging the gameboy and after using it one time I noticed my green power light stopped working. The red low battery indicator still turns on sometimes but the green light does not. I’m also having some of my games freeze when playing which has never happened before.
Could these problems be caused by the crappy charger? Is it possible to repair this damage?

This will probably be longer than I anticipated, but if you want a roller coaster of a read this is for you. I met Brian in 2016, we became friends pretty much instantly, and more than that shortly after. But Brian had captivated me and even though I knew better I found him being all I wanted. Brian breaks up with his girlfriend, we kinda start seeing each other again only for me to find out he’s still talking to his ex. This starts the roller coaster on and off relationship of Brian and I that ended a week ago. But back to 2016. We play this game me acting like I don’t know he’s still talking to his ex us being a couple without being a couple until Dec. of 2017. We officially are dating. Sooo I've been umming and erring on posting this one. So I (f26) have been seeing my bf (29m) for about a year. For reference, he had a bit of a tricky upbring. His mum ran off when he was about 6, and then his dad looked after him for a year but was doing such a terrible job. The house was falling apart quite literally as he purchased a cheap 'diy' house, but then didn't do the diy. There were cigarette butts everywhere and my bf looked like he would go into the care system. Agast, his grandparents swooped him to raise him. They did overall a decent job, only they are quite conservative. My bf is quite liberal, although still on a little bit of a learning journey because of it. This is all quite important as because of the way he was raised, he's always felt he owes them, even though it isn't a narrative they have pushed. He worries what would have happened if he ended up in the care system. Because of this, he wanted to wait a little bit extra before I met them, as wanted to show them that this was more than a fling. Fine with me, I've been in no rush. A couple of weeks ago, he mentioned whether I would be interested in coming over for Sunday lunch (this is UK, so it was your standard roast). Me and my bf are really into our gaming and anime, it's how we first met. I'm not really into fashion, or going out. I'm certainly not a girly girl and my wardrobe reflects that. Pumps and trainers instead of heels, bf jumpers that I can snuggle up in, and then just loads of shirts that represent what I am into. Last year in particular we really got into elden ring and my bf bought me an Elden ring t shirt for my birthday which I thought I would wear. So this was one of the first things they saw once I had taken off my jumper. I guess I didn't think much about it because I know I am nice person, and that's what they would want to get to know, not what I was wearing. I thought the lunch went well enough. They were a little cold to me, but I thought that was just because they were protective of him. I went home, but he stayed the night with them. The next day when I went over to his flat, he was struggling to communicate. Finally got it out of him and he said I hadn't made a great impression because of what I was wearing. The t shirt revealed that I do have tattoos on my arms (again more references to gaming) and I also had my piercings in (multiple ear piercings, nothing else). He gently, but firmly, said that I should have worn something a little bit nicer and appropriate for them, and that he had spent all evening trying to convince them that I am a good and wholesome person. But they are really stubborn and stuck in their ways, and their approval means so much to him. He said it's gonna take a long time for them to come round from this. So AITA for wearing what I feel comfortable and presenting myself as me, or should I have worn something more conservative even though I would not be comfortable in it?

Retro Joshi #435: JWP December 23, 1999, GAEA December 27, 1999 & Jd’ December 28, 1999 - Azumi Hyuga vs. Ran YuYu, Chigusa Nagayo & Meiko Satomura vs. Lioness Asuka & Sonoko Kato, Lioness Asuka vs. Cooga
JWP Solid Slider 12/23/1999 Korakuen Hall, Tokyo
4-5 minute were shown of each of the undercard matches. We had Acute Sae vs. Chihiro Nakano, Yuki Miyazaki vs. Tsubasa Kuragaki and Devil Masami vs. Kyoko Ichiki. None of these looked like particularly good matches, but it’s nice to see some faces we don’t often see like Miyazaki and Ichiki who are pretty good, even Chihiro has improved since leaving GAEA. Their opposition was pretty bad though. They showed 9:49 / 15:53 of Command Bolshoi & Carlos Amano vs. Dynamite Kansai & Kayoko Haruyama. Bolshoi submitted Haruyama. It was just your typical ** JWP match, you could guess what to expect - Kansai dominated, Haruyama wasn’t too good, Bolshoi and Amano were fine but it was pretty much just spots. Next came Azumi Hyuga vs. Ran YuYu, which we’ll come back to, and the show ended with the JWP ’99 PURE HEART SPECIAL PARTY which featured the ’99 awards where Kana Mizaki was named MVP. That’s such a weird decision because they never pushed her in any meaningful way and the other three of the fab four were pushed way ahead of her. Mizaki is actually the best wrestler in the group though, her three peers are basically focused on spots and bring little else to the table. As pure workers they are all stronger than Mizaki, but Mizaki is the one who has more a grasp on how a pro-wrestling match works at this point and she is far superior with psychology and selling.
JWP Openweight Title Match: Azumi Hyuga vs. Ran YuYu (24:22)
Hyuga jobbing to Bolshoi recently was a pretty good hint that we were likely to see a new champion here. They started out hot and for pure work, these really are the best two on the entire scene, everything they do looks great, they’re crisp and they work well together. They still don’t have the brain to work these long matches though and you end up with a lot of wasted time and stuff that just doesn’t go anywhere. The first half of the match was a lot of holds, they were all done well, Ran was really cranking up on a sleeper at one point but it came across as little more than time killing. They had a slapping fight at about the 12 minute mark and from there, the shit was on. They picked things up and it turned into high quality back and forth match with great execution, neat counters, big moves and good near falls. Both hit their finishers at the end but it wasn’t enough to get the win on this day, they both booted each other in the face for a double down and it was anyones match. After an exchange of German Suplexes, Hyuga went for a Destiny Hammer but Ran avoided it. Hyuga came back immediately with a boot and looked to finish but Ran caught her with a rana to win the title. The frustrating thing with these two is that they should be putting on excellent matches all the time but their mental blocks mean that they’ve been outdone throughout the year by the Jd’ kids, who might not be as talented but actually have the ability to work smarter matches. ***1/2

They only showed the finish which saw Hirota roll up Nakayama to get the win.
Sakura Hirota & Toshie Uematsu vs. Mayumi Ozaki & Akira Hokuto (5:02 / 8:41)
All spots and brawling. Hirota and Uetamsu were getting thrashed but interference from KAORU using barbed wire prevented Ozaki from getting back to the ring so Hirota got a count out win. *1/2
KAORU, Toshiyo Yamada & Saika Takeuchi vs. Aja Kong, RIE & Sugar Sato (11:34 / 14:05)
Takeuchi showed some spirit, but she had no chance. I like her, she just throws everything she has at her opponents even if there’s nothing she can do to them. RIE used the barbed wire and busted her open. Action was good throughout and it had some structure. Everyone did their job well enough, except RIE who still can’t swing a weapon. Aja was the best as usual. The finish saw everyone getting taken out, leaving RIE alone. Yamada did her Reverse Gory Special, and then Rocket Launchered the bloody and battered Takeuchi onto RIE to give her the big pinfall, which was pretty cool. ***1/4
Chigusa Nagayo & Meiko Satomura vs. Lioness Asuka & Sonoko Kato (7:40)
This was a really big match on paper with the tension between Satomura and Kato and the Crush Gals on opposite sides, but it was 8 minutes and only existed for the purposes of a big angle. The best exchanges in the match were between Lioness and Satomura, and obviously Kato and Satomura work well together. The match was going along okay, Ozaki, Hokuto and the rest of the group ran in and beat the shit out of everyone in the match, so it was thrown out. Chigusa and Lioness fought back and did their old signature chop spot and a double team suplex, which was awesome and blew the roof off Korakuen Hall. Aja wasn’t too happy with Ozaki and Hokuto, and they seemed to set up Ozaki & Hokuto vs. Lioness & Aja. Match was nothing, but the post match angle was great. *1/2
Jd' Get Miracle Burning Hot 1999 12/28/1999 Korakuen Hall
They showed most of the undercard in digest form. Sachie Abe & Obatchi Iizuka vs. Hiroyo Muto & Ranmaru, Saya Endo vs. KAZUKI and Crusher Maedomari & Morimatsu vs. The Bloody & Fang Suzuki. Nothing of value was lost there, but Obatchi did a Sky Twister Press, or tried to, she did it no worse than ASARI does most of the time.
Megumi Yabushita vs. Yuko Kosugi (9:26)
This was fun and the action was fine, but it was pretty short and not really the same level we’re used to seeing from them. Yabushita won this one with a Tiger Suplex Hold. The highlight was her doing a swan dive tope con giro. Kosugi gave her typically solid performance, not sure if Yabushita got hurt at some point, but she was looking quite sluggish with her suplexes later in the match, particularly with her bridges. **1/2
Sumie Sakai vs. Nanae Takahashi (9:33 / 13:33)
Sakai was nothing short of excellent in this match. Her work was so smooth and fast, and she was on point with everything. The problem was Nanae dragged the match way down with her clumsiness. Nanae just can’t do anything, she sits around in holds and when she tries to work fast it’s a recipe for disaster. Here, she managed to screw up Sakai’s top rope rana by slipping off, which made for a nasty landing where Sakai almost landed on her head. She didn’t even execute her Nanarocker properly, which she got the win with. **1/2
TWF Title Match: Lioness Asuka vs. Cooga (18:31)
The final match of 1999, and the final match of Cooga’s career. Lioness was great here and did the best job of carrying Cooga of anyone not named Jaguar Yokota. The thing with Cooga is she’d have been a perfectly fine mid-level worker if she had the fire she did during her run as Miori Kamiya, she understands psychology a bit and has some nice offense, but it always looks so pathetic because there’s no impact at all behind it. This was the typical Lioness formula match, plenty of action, Lioness dominates, she uses her tables, but she gave Cooga enough and sold, so Cooga was a credible threat to her. Cooga looked better than she normally does thanks to Lioness but the usual issues around her offense remained. Cooga did score a pretty nice kick and a Destiny Hammer to get her biggest near fall of the match. Lioness busted out the moonsault, which is a rarity, and later she powerbombed Cooga from the apron through a table, then did a diving footstomp out in the bleachers. Cooga kicked out of a couple of Liger Bombs in the ring and she even kicked out of the Tower Hacker Bomb, so she had to bust out the Lioness Surprise Drop, which is basically a Fisherman’s Buster turned into a Falcon Arrow to get the win. Cooga unmasked after the match and retired. ***1/2

I finally got the chance to play this in my preferred language. I didn't bother with the original, since I didn't like the graphics and I got spoiled, but the Remake is pretty good!

Some points:

• CG and Sprites are WAY better than the original. It looks like Charon could fit more text in too, which is great for adding extra context to things. Also, it's voice acted. Hearing the crazed laughing from the girls is pretty neat.
• Routes are short. It takes an hour, maybe an hour and a half, to completely clear one. Each of them takes place over the course of four days. First day MC and the girl meet each other, second day they have fun a little bit, third day girl feels a little woozy, fourth day things happen.
• I'll get into this a bit later: While all the girls are nuts in some way, you actually feel some sympathy for them by the time they go bonkers. It's a big change from some crazy anime girl going crazy because of Love™.
• The girls never meet each other - aside from a Tea Party section in the Extra content - so it's always just the MC, the girl, and maybe a few offscreen characters that appear for only a few seconds. I kinda wish there would be more interaction between the cast, but it's fine.
• Happy End means happy for the girl, not you, and certainly not for the MC. Happy for you is stored in the Extra content, which is nice to read through after going through the ordeal of a route.
• The violence can feel a bit strange at times as to why its happening. Nenene's Bad Ending is the biggest offender. Maybe Ayume's Happy End, too.
• As for the routes themselves (spoiler free):
  • Matsuri: Wow this one is depressing. Basically, MC's classmate wants to date him really badly, and MC finally agrees to it after a lot of pestering. This girl is messed up before the game starts, and she really shows it in her endings. Amusingly, Matsuri is voiced by Rena's VA from Higurashi.
  • Mihomi: If you've seen Arc 3 of Higurashi, this route will look familiar. But there's an important difference: This MC doesn't have the titanic balls Keiichi has. It's like this MC read through Arc 3 of Higurashi, and decided that Keiichi's biggest mistake was going the extra mile in solving Sotoko's problems himself. Satoshi doesn't exist either - there's just Lesser Keiichi, Satoko, and Teppei. I consider this arc to be my favorite.
  • Ayume: The original must have been translated wrong or something. She is not what the West thinks she is. In fact, she only really becomes a serious threat around Day 3 like the other girls. People probably still won't like her though, due to how things unfold in her Happy End. I was somewhat neutral on it though, since the MC is a massive simp in this route.
  • Moeko: This is a funny one. The MC is a loser, and while he is a massive jerk to Moeko, he warms up to her cosplay double with incredible speed. I really liked her Bad Ending; I'm sure lots of other people did too, considering how much of a jerk the MC is in this route.
  • Nenene: This one is pretty neat. MC finds a rich girl's ring, and she suddenly falls in love with the guy. Problem is, there's a dude who's constantly roughing the MC up in school. The Bad Ending comes out of nowhere - in fact, Nenene's extra content is literally just the Bad Ending, but the Diabolous Ex Machina didn't happen. Her Happy End is pretty sad though.

The vn is pretty neat - I feel it's more complete than the original, though it still follows the same general storyline. You also get to have some scenes with Yukimaru, who I think only appears in person unnamed in the original.
