DuoTrim Reviews Reddit : What Real Users Are Saying About This Weight Loss Supplement

DuoTrim is a powerful new fatloss formula designed to help you quickly and safely lose weight. It primarily functions by improving your gut health, which is key for overall health and weight management.
DuoTrim Reviews
DuoTrim is a new fatloss formula designed to help virtually anyone lose weight, burn fat, and achieve their fatloss goals faster.
It claims to be the only “dual-action” gut health supplement designed to help you lose weight and keep it off. By taking their product daily, you can purportedly rev up your metabolism, burn fat, improve your digestion and immunity, and ultimately, improve your overall health.
If you’re looking for a natural, safe solution to help you lose weight, are stuck in a fatloss plateau, or are only beginning your fatloss journey, then DuoTrim may be right for you.

What is DuoTrim Exactly?

As we briefly mentioned before, DuoTrim is a powerful new fatloss formula designed to help you quickly and safely lose weight. It primarily functions by improving your gut health, which is key for overall health and weight management.
In fact, according to recent studies, if you suffer from frequent digestive issues or are experiencing unexpected weight gain, then your gut health is likely responsible for your issues. This is why maintaining a healthy gut biome is essential to keep your body healthy. DuoTrim is designed to do exactly this.
Best of all, using DuoTrim is very easy. Simply take two capsules from DuoTrim Burn in the morning. Then, you should take one capsule from DuoTrim Active before bed so you can maintain your healthy metabolism before bed.
This easy, two-step system will supercharge your gut health, boost your metabolic function, and curb your cravings to put you in the absolute best position to lose weight safely.

How Does DuoTrim Really Work?

DuoTrim is a fatloss supplement designed to help you “lose weight from the inside out”. It’s considered both a fatloss supplement and gut health supplement because these are the primary benefits associated with using the product.
To help you lose weight, DuoTrim primarily works in two ways:
It provides your body with key strains of bacteria to support a healthy gut biome
Over the last few years, dozens of studies have discovered a clear link between gut microbiome and weight management. It has become clear that an unhealthy gut can and most likely will lead to weight gain, digestive issues, and an insatiable appetite. This is why improving your gut biome is key to managing your weight.
Thankfully, this is exactly the primary mechanism behind DuoTrim. It contains several strains of bacteria that are proven to support digestion and to keep your gut biome intact. These bacteria also help to kill the bacteria that impede your digestion and the production of enzymes needed for your body to break down fat and to influence your metabolism.
Although simple, supplying your body with these key strains of bacteria is essential to your digestive health, weight, and for your overall health. Within weeks, these good bacteria will reenergize your body and mind by eliminating all of the bad bacteria slowing down your body.
It supplies your body with fiber to help you feel fuller for a longer period of time
While providing your body with these key bacteria is important, it’s only one piece of the puzzle. You have to ensure that these bacteria are fed with the right nutrients so they can thrive and keep your body health.
Thankfully, DuoTrim does just that. It contains several types of fiber that slow down your body’s digestion and the absorption of nutrients. This prevents the further accumulation of fat and helps maintain steady, proper digestion.
In addition, this also helps prevent hunger pangs by helping you feel fuller for a longer period of time. No longer will you suffer from dealing with frequent hunger pangs or the insatiable desire to eat foods. You’ll feel full for hours after eating and limit your caloric intake so you can stay in a caloric deficit.

Main Benefits of DuoTrim

According to DuoTrim, there are numerous benefits to taking their product on a regular basis. Although it is known that a healthy gut biome can support virtually every aspect of your health, DuoTrim highlights some of the main benefits of their product, such as:
Rapid fat burn & appetite suppression: DuoTrim contains a number of ingredients that contain a number of different types of fiber. Fiber helps bind to water, created a thick gel-like substance that slows down the absorption of carbs and takes longer to digest. This gives you the feeling of fullness for a longer period of time, preventing overeating and hunger pangs.
Improved gut health: Both products in DuoTrim contain a unique blend of ingredients that are known to support gut health. By supplying your body with prebiotic and probiotic ingredients, DuoTrim helps your good bacteria thrive and eliminates the bad bacteria slowing your digestion and metabolic function.
Improved immunity: Research over the last decade has shown that a majority of your immune system is found in your gut. This is why maintaining a healthy gut biome is essential to your immune health. As your gut microbiome becomes healthier, you’ll likely find your immune system function is improving.

Ingredients in DuoTrim

DuoTrim contains proven prebiotic and probiotic ingredients designed to balance your gut and metabolic health. In total, there are five ingredients in DuoTrim, which include the following:
Acacia Gum: Acacia gum, is a dried gummy substance made from the sap of the Acacia tree. It’s often used to thicken beverages and enhance the texture in breakfast cereals. Studies have found that the water soluble fiber in Acacia gum can break down fat, improve digestion, supports wound healing, and may even promote oral health.
Agave Inulin: Agave inulin acts as a prebiotic ingredient, helping feed the good bacteria in your body. It is also a rich source of fiber, helping supporting your body’s ability to regularly digest the foods you eat. Some studies have shown agave inulin can increase the production of enzymes which break down fat cells in your body. It also reduces the secretion of liver enzymes that cause fat storage as well.
Flaxseed: Flaxseed is commonly used to improve digestive health or to relieve constipation. Studies have also found it may lower total blood cholesterol and reduce LDL cholesterol, which is the “bad” cholesterol. Flaxseed contains both soluble and insoluble fiber, which get fermented by the bacteria in your intestines to support gut health and to improve bowel regularity.
Guar Gum: Guar gum is a food additive that is readily found in the food supply. It’s made from guar beans, a type of legume. It is low in calories and mainly composed of soluble fiber, which helps support digestion. Since guar gum thickens and binds to water, it may slow the absorption of carbs, preventing blood sugar spikes. It also may help reduce appetite by making you feel fuller for a longer period of time.
Galacto-Oligosaccharides: Galacto-oligosaccharides are a type of prebiotic made of plant sugars. They’re commonly found in dairy products, beans, and some root vegetables. Their main function is to pass undigested into the colon where they increase bowel mass and promote the growth of certain bacteria that improve digestion and metabolic function.
Probiotic Bacteria: To balance your gut biome, you need certain bacteria present in your gut. Thankfully, DuoTrim contains a unique blend of several different types of bacteria in the lactobacillus, bifido, and bacillus family. When added to your gut biome, these bacteria assist with healthy fatloss.

2023.03.23 22:56 Nivilack Super Soldier in Another World: Chapter Five: The Hark's Request

Hoplite stared up at Geravall without tilting his helmet in that direction. If the elf somehow knew about project CHIMERA and wasn’t authorized… Well, Hoplite would have no choice if Geravall mentioned it. What would happen after that point was completely out of Hoplite’s hands. Yet, it was impossible that Geravall could have any information about CHIMERA, for the program had begun long after this colony had been lost. There was no use racking his brain now for answers, Hoplite needed to obtain more intel, blundering about in the dark was a fruitless endeavor. He’d just have to see what he could suss out of these elves…
“Now that your previous meeting is concluded,” Hoplite began in his standard monotone “I have questions for you.”
“And we you, what is your name sir?” The Harkmother asked “I thought I heard Lancela mention it earlier… it is Hoplite, yes?”
Hoplite nodded “Affirmative.”
“It sounds foreign… yet you don’t have an accent, are you from the Blastlands perhaps? Where did you come from?” The Harkmother asked, brushing a stray lock of blonde hair behind her pointed ear.
“I would prefer to keep that classified.” Hoplite replied flatly.
There was no telling how these people would react if Hoplite told them the truth. If they knew that he had come from a so-called ‘falling-star’ they might cease talks with him completely, maybe even become aggressive, Hoplite was not sure.
Almost immediately after Hoplite spoke, the elves all began gazing into one another’s eyes, long moments passing between each one before they all honed in to stare at the Harkmother. She looked to each member in turn before finally turning her green gaze down on Hoplite again.
“Speak your questions.” She said, her voice echoing in the otherwise silent chamber.
"How long have you been out of contact with Terna?" Hoplite asked, tilting his head toward the Harkmother "And do you have any radio equipment that I can utilize?"
The Harkmother quirked a brow, then turned away from Hoplite, looking a question into the eyes of each of the sitting elves. Each stare held a certain focus, their eyes shifting while maintaining contact. Oddly, the Harkhall seemed to shift between facial expressions as if they were holding a conversation with the Harkmother with just their eyes. Some appeared to be listening intently or shaking their heads as if the Harkmother had asked them a question… It was like she was speaking with each member, yet she said nothing, and neither did anyone else.
So they had bionic implants installed in their brain that allowed for mental communication… but then, where were the metal discs that should have been filling their temples? Every officer he had seen with that particular bionic all bore those shining metal discs on their temples… perhaps it was a newer model? One that did not require an external access hatch for maintenance?
On a backwater lost colony from before that bionic was even invented? No, something else was going on here. Clearly they had developed an advanced form of communication with nothing but their eyes. It seemed to be their own kind of sign language, with them somehow being able to decipher meaning through eye movements and facial expressions alone.
Lance shifted slowly from foot to foot, slowly creeping closer to Hoplite until she was practically standing on his toes, leaning up toward his helmet and cupping a hand around her mouth.
"They can communicate without speaking." She whispered "It is their way, but they must maintain eye-contact."
“Isn’t that classified intel you're providing me?” Hoplite asked “You could be punished for telling me this.”
Lance shook her head “Not at all, everyone knows it, but you seem out of the loop. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.”
“Affirmative.” Hoplite replied as Lance backed away once more.
That confirmed it. It was an incredibly intricate system of communication, but no bionic was involved. How did one learn to read eye movements to communicate so clearly?
Hoplite shifted his eyes to hers, not moving his head as he did so "You won’t be disciplined if you speak?"
She shook her head with a small smile "Only if I talk while the Harkmother speaks. Discussion between us is fine as long as we aren't disruptive."
"...Affirmative.” Hoplite said.
Lance smiled and Hoplite thought that she was going to back away further, but instead she continued to speak.
"Thank you again for helping me out." Lance whispered "You didn't have to go out of your way for me, but you did."
Hoplite cocked his helmet toward her "I was ignorant of local law and compromised your occupation." He explained simply "It is not necessary for you to be discharged."
"Well I still feel grateful..." She whispered “So… if you don’t mind me asking you,” She said slowly “If you aren’t fully human, what are you?”
“Classified. I will not continue speaking of this.” He said curtly.
CHIMERA was never to be spoken of. It would be fatal if mentioned by name.
Lance inched away from him “Sorry… I won’t bother you with it friend, if you want to keep it a secret I will not press you.” She finished, moving to stand next to him.
Hoplite's brow furrowed at the parting words. Friend? It was wrong to treat a Hoplite as such. He was a thing, just as Commander had taught him… nothing more. One did not take a wrench and claim it as a friend, it was no different with a Hoplite.
“We have not heard of this… Terna you speak of.” The Harkmother said, drawing his attention back up to her “Nor do we have this ‘radio equipment’ you ask after. I do apologize.”
Disappointment filled him but Hoplite stuffed it down. He wouldn’t let them hear it in his tone.
“Then you have been out of contact for a long time. You are originally from the Ternan empire, we have colonized many worlds.” Hoplite explained “You are a colony that lost contact with us hundreds of years ago.”
Hoplite expected questions, or awed gasps as they heard his words. All he got was a few amused looks and shaking heads. They denied it? The plain truth that he had laid right before them? They really had regressed far, but a few hundred years shouldn’t have been enough for them to forget Terna… Right? They are surely Ternan, if not in their way of life, then in the language they spoke.
“You are from this Terna,” The Harkmother began “At least now we know where you are from… You say that these people have colonized different worlds…?” She asked, letting the question hang for a few seconds before continuing “Tell me, are you from this world?”
So they didn’t outright claim that other worlds didn’t exist. They were at least aware that there were other planetary bodies in space besides this one. Hoplite supposed that he had let it slip earlier that he was from Terna, not this world, but their reaction to this information was not as primitive as Hoplite had suspected it may be. Best to be truthful here, seeing as they weren’t being aggressive about it.
“No. I am from Earth. ” He told them simply “Your homeworld.”
“Very well…” The Harkmother said, narrowing her eyes at Hoplite as she did so “Hoplite, this world is known as Ahkoolis, can tell me how it is that you have arrived here?”
“I came from my ship, from next to your moon.” Hoplite told them “The one you can see in your orbit was the ship of our enemies, your enemies, the Final Kind.”
“Our enemies?” The Harkmother asked “A ship next to the moon? Final Kind?”
The rest of the Harkhall began exchanging looks with one another, shifting again between facial expressions as if they were reacting to spoken words. So they were well and truly ignorant of the Final Kind, of that there could be no doubt now. This colony had to have been lost before First-Contact. After a few moments of this silent communication, the Harkmother spoke again.
“Your ship… how can it… how does it float next to the moon? And is the larger ship from this… Final Kind, still a danger?” The Harkmother asked, her brows slightly creasing above worried eyes.
He did not feel like explaining the mechanics of space travel to these people, that could come at another time from someone better capable of conveying such information. Hoplite shook his head visibly, causing a few members of the Harkhall and even Lance to let out relieved breathes
“No, the ship has been neutralized. Final Kind troops may have made it planetside however. Have you encountered any of their forces?” He asked the Harkmother.
Hoplite’s throat was beginning to feel slightly worn from all this speaking… he was not used to it.
The Harkmother shook her head “No, we have not. What are they?”
“An alien imperium that wants to subjugate humanity, and you by extension.” Hoplite told them, maintaining his monotone.
More looks passed between the hall, then after a few minutes, the Harkmother spoke once more.
“We will prepare for the event of an encounter with these creatures… You do realize what you are? Where you are?”
“I am a Hoplite, and I’m on a lost Ternan world.” Hoplite told her.
The Harkmother shook her head “No, you are an Outworlder. Geravall tells me that he sees not a drop of Zodd’s blood in you.” At the mention of that, Geravall winced.
It was a small expression, a slight lift of the brows and biting of the cheek. So Geravall did know about CHIMERA…? Or had he lied about some of the information that he had provided to the Harkmother? And what was this about Geravall seeing Hoplite’s blood?
“That can only mean one thing, be you man or some other creature, you are from another realm of existence.” She then leaned forward, eyes intent “Tell me Hoplite, were you the star that fell in our forest?”
Hoplite shook his head “Impossible. Different dimensions do not exist, and that was not a star, it was my escape shuttle.”
“It is the only possible explanation for your strange appearance, the odd ‘ship’ in the sky, and the fact that you do not bear the Blood of Zodd.” The Harkmother told him “All the races on Ahkoolis at the beginning of its creation were formed from the infinite Blood of Zodd, the Pillar-God of Might. We have seen your ilk before on this world… though none have appeared in this current age, at least none that we know of anyhow. This ‘star’ or shuttle as you claim, is clearly otherworldly in origin as well, this too points to your true nature” The Harkmother then took a deep breath, giving a long sigh before continuing “I suppose your arrival is a good omen. Outworlders have a long history of benefitting our world when they visit, what history remains of them anyhow. It surely is a sign from the Pillar-Gods that we are headed into a golden age.”
A backwards mythology that had no place in Ternan society. These people would unfortunately have to be re-indoctrinated… at another time. Hoplite would not be the one to conduct the process. He had neither the training or the means at his disposal to conduct re-indoctrination… nor the will to do it to someone else… not after it had happened to him. Personnel more suited to the task would have to take care of it later. Now, this talk of Outworlders could only mean that they indeed did have contact with Ternan personnel at one point, though based on the Harkmother’s talk of ‘none in this age’ implied that it had been a long while since then. He cocked his head toward Geravall as he asked his own question, taking care to word it in a way that would avoid mention of CHIMERA.
“How does he know about my… lineage?” Hoplite asked.
“His eyes allow him to see the twisting ladders of the blood.” The Harkmother replied immediately and without a drop of sarcasm.
Hoplite stared. The twisting ladders of the blood? Surely she must mean DNA, but why would she say it like that? More importantly, how could Geravall see Hoplite’s DNA? There was no bionic capable of that. Was he lying about having this alleged ‘ability’ to avoid mention of CHIMERA? No… The Harkmother hadn’t hesitated before telling Hoplite about it, meaning that this was already established intel between these elves. Hoplite was still certain that this colony had been lost far before CHIMERA had begun but was that really the case? After all, these elves still spoke in fluent Jynesian, meaning that it was likely that not too much time had passed since this colony had been lost… Yet the lack of knowledge about the Final Kind conflicted with this theory, as did the apparent lack of bionics.
If Geravall really had no way of knowing about CHIMERA, then how was it possible that the elf could see Hoplite’s DNA? The way the Harkmother had spoken of it implied that only Geravall alone was capable of doing this… A question then burned within Hoplite. Why could Geravall do this? How did he do it? Hoplite needed to know.
“How can he see my blood?” Hoplite asked, cocking his helmet back toward the Harkmother.
“His Dok-ah, or to put it in more…human terms, his ‘eye-magic’ allows him to do so.” The Harkmother replied, again with no sarcasm.
Hoplite shook his head, he would not be drawn into such fancies as ‘eye-magic’. Unfortunately, at this point in time, Hoplite had no idea how to disprove such a claim… unless these colonists had developed new tech while outside of Terna’s influence? Perhaps… but maybe figuring out that tech should be left to one of the scientists that had been aboard the Sparrow. They would be more capable than Hoplite at deciphering new technology.
Now then, if this mutated branch had specific rules against humans entering this place, then that must mean that the standard branch of humans still existed somewhere on this planet. Primitive or not, Hoplite desired to make contact with them at some point, hopefully soon depending on what happened here today.
“Where is the nearest human settlement?” Hoplite asked the Harkmother.
“If you mean to find the largest gathering of humans possible, then you seek… Akan-Dar,” The Harkmother said in a borderline withering tone. “It lies far to the west of our forest, all the way to the coast of Faenor; the continent you currently stand upon. There is one other, smaller settlement to the east of here, as well as smaller townships along the way to Akan-Dar. Yet, one such as you would seek Akan-Dar, as that would be where the most important humans on Faenor reside. I do assume that you would like to speak to human’s with authority. You will find them there.” She finished in a confident tone.
“Yes.” Hoplite replied “Do they have transportation? Ballistics?”
How far had these humans regressed? Did they still have vehicles and guns, or had they gone back to spears and horses?
“Yes, they do have ballistas and horses, some of the finest on Ahkoolis in fact, though few would be able to carry you I think.” The Harkmother replied “I do mean no offense sir, but you look quite… heavy.”
That practically confirmed the latter. Still though, perhaps they weren’t as backward as these mutants. Maybe they even still knew of Terna, or maybe forces from the Sparrow could be heading there… He almost hung his head but kept it upright. The crew would be more likely to have landed in the east based on the planet's rotation during the evacuation, not the west. Currently the main objective should be to reunite with the Sparrow’s crew, not re-establish contact with lost colonists. That would be taken care of by those better able to talk sense into the locals.
“How was it that I was teleported here?” Hoplite asked.
Teleportation had been declared to be physically impossible by top Second Arm scientists… they still had tried of course, but no matter what they did, the Second Arm had never been able to accomplish it. Even the Final Kind with their superior tech were still completely incapable of teleportation. Yet the impossible had happened to Hoplite today, and he would know how.
“The Hark crystal above,” The Harkmother said, sparing a glance for the glowing amber crystal suspended overhead “The Pillar-God, Draoi, formed it for us elves out of the Golden Flame of Foundation. The power of our god draws those with the intent to seek the Harkhall here.”
Hoplite remained silent. Clearly this crystal was really an unidentified element. Somehow, it was capable of teleporting matter and would have to be confiscated… but how would he go about doing that? There were no visible exits to this room and he could think of no safe way to procure the crystal without accidentally damaging it… but teleportation… it could shift the tide of the war.
A war that Terna had already lost?
Again he stuffed that invasive thought far into the recesses of his mind. As long as Hoplite was alive, the war was not over. As long as any Ternan fought, the war was not over. Humanity would not lose. He glanced up at the crystal again, not tilting his helmet. There really was no way for him to take it now though, no exits, no safe means of retrieving it… no, it would simply have to remain here for now. There would be personnel better suited to retrieving it at another time…
Hoplite realized he had been having repeating thought processes during this whole meeting. ‘It will be taken care of later’ ‘It will remain here for now’ ‘It would be handled by personnel with more experience in this’. An unsettling thought occurred to him then… What if he was the only personnel left? What if the Sparrow’s crew all died on landing? Either from a violent crash-landing or from the Final Kind?
He took a deep breath. No, they would be survivors. Hoplite would not give up on that hope. Now, onto the creatures he had killed upon landing…
“What are fiends?” Hoplite asked.
The Harkmother’s eyes fell from him then, and she spoke in an almost mournful tone “Poor souls are they… taken by the Death Spiral curse. Forced to inflict pain they are, though it be not their choice.”
“Are they animated by any kind of nanotech?” Hoplite asked immediately after she finished speaking.
It was a silly question considering who Hoplite spoke to, but he had to ask. The Harkmother’s eyes shot up to Hoplite before then shifting to the other members of the Harkhall, who stared at him as if he were some kind of alien creature… well, he supposed in a strange way, he was. Lance quirked a brow at him then, but didn’t say anything. Clearly Lance had wanted to ask just what nanotech was, but she must have realized that the Harkmother would ask that very question shortly.
“No… the curse is what drives them. What is this… nanotech?” The Harkmother asked, confirming Hoplite’s thought.
“Microscopic machines.” He told her.
The Harkmother stared with a furrowed brow “So… they are… they are tiny constructs?”
“Affirmative.” Hoplite told her with a nod “Nanomachines are thousands of tiny machines working in tandem to achieve a particular function.”
“What mage can bind so many constructs at once? The size of the construct doesn’t matter, every individual animated object takes great effort to bind. The most powerful of mages can bind three at most.” The Harkmother asked him, leaning forward in her rooted seat.
Hoplite then noticed Terlin glaring at him, those red eyes accentuated by popping veins. When he noticed the glare, Hoplite turned his helmet in that direction, meeting that crimson gaze. After a few seconds, Terlin looked away to glare at Lance instead. She didn’t seem to notice the glare at all, her eyes still glued to the Harkmother. Terlin may turn hostile later… Hoplite would be keeping an eye on the red-eyed elf.
“There’s no magic involved.” Hoplite replied sternly, cocking his helmet back to glance up at the Harkmother “Just advanced AI.”
The Harkmother had opened her mouth, likely readying to ask just what an AI was when suddenly, literally out of nowhere based on what he read on his motion tracker; another watcher appeared. Out of thin air he came, his clothing the mirror image of Lance’s with a couple jaw-shaped tears in his outfit. From the looks of it, those bites had barely missed flesh while pulling away the cloth.
The elf then fell to his knees and rasped “The Fiendwall has fallen! Fiends are pouring through unopposed!”
Everything fell silent, and a cold stillness came over the chamber. Hoplite himself was staring wide-eyed at the sudden appearance of the watcher. There had been no indication that this man was approaching on the motion tracker… Hoplite hadn’t seen him coming with his cameras either... The man had simply popped into existence from nowhere. No, not nowhere, the crystal had teleported him based on what the Harkmother had said. Teleported him not solely based on proximity… but sheerly by intent, from what Hoplite had learned. Was that true? How did the crystal tell the intent of the person wanting to be brought here?
He had no answer.
“Lancela. Recite the Watcher’s silence for our earlier meeting.” The Harkmother commanded in a voice that brooked no argument.
Lance then dropped to her knees and said loudly “My lips are sealed by the Golden Flame of Foundation. Nothing from this chamber I have heard will be uttered to anyone save for those currently present until I am given permission by the Harkmother.”
The Harkmother nodded and sighed “I do hope Gali has roused his defenders in time… do you know if those who live in the wall have perished?”
The new elf shook his head as Lance stood “No, I only have heard that fiends are pouring en masse through our forest… I have heard a portion of the wall had just… collapsed, they are heading for the Bastion as we speak! I ran as fast as I could when I got word, and was beset upon by lesser fiends!”
“Then we must mobilize.” The Harkmother declared, turning her gaze upon the other elves in the Hall “Every off-duty watcher must take up arms and purge the Faewood of this menace by any means necessary. The Bramble Guard must be rallied and patrols will be doubled. Spread the word!” She ordered in a steely tone that captain Stol would have applauded.
The Harkmother then looked to Hoplite, her eyes intent “Hoplite… you are a warrior yes?”
“Affirmative.” He told her honestly.
“Then I must ask you to aid in destroying the fiends, they pose a danger to my people and-” The Harkmother began.
“Affirmative.” Hoplite repeated, cutting her off.
The Harkmother stared wide-eyed, whether in shock at being interrupted or at Hoplite’s willingness to fight with no hesitation he did not know. It was simply his role as a Hoplite, he must defend humanity in all its forms from those that would cause harm to it. There was no question to what his answer would have been, at least it was so to Hoplite. These elves truly had no idea what a Hoplite was, otherwise they wouldn’t have asked.
“I thank you…” The Harkmother said slowly “I must be honest, I had sought to pressure you into this had you refused.” The Harkmother admitted with a sigh “Upon your landing you no doubt had destroyed several of our trees.” She continued, Hoplite nodding in confirmation of her accusation. She blinked in surprise “I thank you for not trying to be deceitful. Honesty goes a long way with most members of this Hall, so we thank you.”
If they did decide to try and punish him though, Hoplite would have no choice but to defend himself. He could not allow himself to fall victim to whatever backward laws the elves followed.
“Normally, this would require a dire punishment, but given your… unique nature as an Outworlder, it is no surprise that you would be completely ignorant of our laws. Even outsiders who had never set foot in the Faewood at the very least know not to harm our trees… However, you were uniquely innocent in your demolition, you simply could not have known.” The Harkmother continued, sparing a glare for Terlin as the blonde elf’s face turned a much deeper shade of crimson.
“There will still be a vote to decide for a certainty, the role of Harkmother is not that of a queen, but I am sure that most other members will find the logic in my words.” She told him “I just hope the fae that inhabited those trees fled when they had the chance… Destroying our forest is grounds for harsh punishment, but killing a fae of the wood is a death sentence.” She emphasized, holding up a single finger “A tree can not regrow if its fae is slain, they are the very life of our woods.” She continued, lowering her finger “Now that your ignorance of their importance has been quashed, you will have no excuses, should it happen again.”
Hoplite said nothing in response. They could have their vote if they wished, but it meant nothing to him. By every single metric, Hoplite was above their laws, and as such would not subject himself to their judgment. There was no such thing as ‘fae’ or spirits, a tree was just a tree.
The Harkmother then cleared her throat, turning to Lance “Watch Hoplite.” She commanded.
Lance nodded without hesitation but said nothing, turning to stare at Hoplite. Watch him? Likely they didn’t want Hoplite moving about their territory unsupervised. He would not argue the point, Hoplite just hoped that Lance could keep up with him.
“I will put you under the command of night captain Muro.” The Harkmother said “He is a brilliant tactician and-”
“Negative.” Hoplite cut her off “He will not understand how to utilize my capabilities. I will operate to my full capacity without orders from someone who doesn’t understand just what I am.”
The Harkmother seemed to glare at Hoplite a moment before speaking “You will not cut me off again, Hoplite. You will show proper respect to the Harkhall, outworlder or no.” She told him in a cold voice like steel “Besides, you do not know our woods. Muro can guide you to where you’ll need to be.”
Lance flinched at hearing that tone and she peered up at Hoplite as if to see if he were injured. It would be against protocol to allow an officer outside of the Eighth Arm to order Hoplite. If he defied protocol… he would have to be re-indoctrinated… Hoplite could not allow that to happen again. The Harkmother did make a good point though… Hoplite didn’t know these woods as well as the locals would have… but then again, if Lance was going to ‘watch’ him…
“Lance can guide me through the forest.” He said “I can’t get lost with her being with me.”
It was true based on how he had seen her move through the woods as if through her own house.
These words produced a strange reaction from the Harkhall, and especially Lance who stared at him with her jaw agape. She snapped it shut and then looked to the floor, tangling a hand in her long black hair and hiding her face with the other. The Harkmother seemed to be… amused by this based on how she quirked a brow at Lance. Hoplite didn’t understand why those words would provoke such a reaction from them, but at the moment it didn’t really matter. The Harkmother opened her mouth to speak again but Hoplite overrode her.
“Every second we spend talking,” Hoplite began, the ache in his throat giving his voice a more gravelly tone “More fiends come through the Fiendwall. Teleport me out and I will take care of them the best way I can.”
The Harkmother lifted her chin to stare down her nose at Hoplite “Very well. I will not argue when you speak sense. Go, But when we speak here again, you will give the proper courtesy and respect due to this Hall. I thank you for your aid. But again, now that you’re aware,” She continued, narrowing her eyes at Hoplite “You will not destroy any more of our trees.”
And just as they had entered the Harkhall, they had left. He and Lance both were teleported back outside, to the massive field of outspread roots in an instant. The Ilum tree loomed tall in the night sky, covering half of the full green moon overhead.
“Well…” Lance said with a sigh “Since that’s taken care of, I suppose we’re going to be working together to drive off the fiends. Now, the Harkmother said not to destroy any of the trees, just so you know, what she means by that is utter destruction. A few scrapes and knicks here and there won’t be a problem for a fae to recover from, and the tree spirits usually know when it's time to flee. Avoiding hurting the forest is preferable,” She continued with a sigh “But considering your preference for thunder staves, I think it’ll be impossible.” She paused, scratching her cheek “Anyway, I have to watch you, meaning I’m partly responsible for any damage you might cause. For both our sakes,” She said, gesturing to herself and to Hoplite, “try to mitigate the damage you might cause to our trees. Now…” She said slowly before drawing two long daggers out from a pair of leather sheaths tied to her waist.
The metal gleamed in the moonlight and she gave the twin blades a smile, each as long as her forearm “These should do for me… I would ask to borrow one of those thunder staves you have, but frankly? Those things scare me, so I’ll stick with what I know.” Lance told him with a wink, sheathing the blades and pointing off toward the horizon “The fiends are likely to be more concentrated in the woods east of the Bastion, considering that the Fiendwall is that way. Shall we go?” She asked him.
“Affirmative.” Hoplite replied.

2023.03.23 15:19 Zorothegallade I'm Fixing Throne of Night, Part 13 of ?? - War in Dammerhall, The Mausoleum

Previous Post
Drive document
Told ya this was ready already. The next one will cover the rest of the locations in Dammerhall and the final dungeon of Book 3, which should hopefully let DMs who want to run a 13-level campaign about dwarves reclaiming their ancient kingdom everything they need to do that. It might take me quite a bit of time (real life commitments and other projects eat away at the time I have for this) but be assured I am still working on that.

D - Necropolis mausoleum

This tall building of gray stone has a downward staircase leading to a sturdy iron door , which is barring the only entrance. The door and walls have somber dwarven faces and runic circles carved on them.
The mausoleum is the center of operations of the Necropolis, where the unquiet spirit of High King Gurnir has taken residence with his most élite undead retinue. If the PCs are allies, they can use the mausoleum as a base and even request magical items listed under each room’s Treasure entry if they can convince Gurnir to let them take it with a DC 30 Diplomacy check. The only item Gurnir will not relinquish until destroyed or laid to rest is the Scepter.
Otherwise, they are likely here to destroy Gurnir or put him to rest, whether on their own terms or on behalf of Lady Dirge.
The mausoleum is completely dark, and its ceilings are 15 feet high. All walls are decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs depicting the feats of the dwarves that are (or were) interred here, from battles fought by soldiers to the discoveries made by scholars and masterpieces crafted by artisans.
All inner doors of the mausoleum are made of reinforced stone and have 60 hp and hardness 10. As long as the desecrated obelisk in area D2 exists, the entire mausoleum is affected by CL 15 desecrate and unhallow spells with a specially prepared dispel magic effect tied to it, which attempts to dispel hide from undead, death ward and any spell with the good descriptor from creatures entering the building. Furthermore, if anyone within the Mausoleum attempts to cast one such spell or a spell that employs positive energy, the dispel magic effect attempts to counter it: this latter effect can only occur once per minute. The effects of desecrate are already factored in the statblocks of the NPCs in this section.
Finally, as this crypt belongs to Gurnir’s ancestors, he’s able to use his forebear’s visage spell to communicate via the bas-reliefs on the wall.
If the PCs destroy any of the undead occupants of the mausoleum but Gurnir isn’t destroyed yet, he is quick to summon replacements by pulling back troops from the city, which return in 2d4 hours. The warsworn in area D5 is the only exception.

D1 - Atrium(CR 8)

The entrance to the crypt sports a large sunburst carved into the floor. Two unlit braziers stand at the sides of the room.
The iron gate giving access to the mausoleum is open if Gurnir is expecting allies. Otherwise, the PCs will have to either break through (80 hp, hardness 10, DC 30 to force) or pick the lock (DC 35) on the gate.
Creatures: A group of powerful wights is constantly keeping watch here. They attack intruders on sight to stop them from going any further.

Wight guards(4) CR 4
XP 4,800(1,200 each)
Advanced unhallowed wights
hp 42

D2 - Obelisk Room(CR 10)

This room is almost entirely taken up by an ominous obelisk standing tall at its far end, which glows ominously with a sickening thrumming.
This room houses one of Gurnir’s most aberrant creations: an obelisk that was once a prayer memorial to the spirits of the dwarven forefathers to wish the dwarves interred here a safe journey to the afterlife, now corrupted into a beacon of necromantic energy by the ghostly king and his minions.
The obelisk is the source of the unhallow and desecrate effects that permeate the entire mausoleum. It can be removed by casting dispel evil on it and succeeding at a DC 26 caster level check or destroying it (it has 720 hp and hardness 16); the necromantic energies churning within it deal 2d6 negative energy damage to anyone physically striking it.
Creatures: Two more of Gurnir’s creations are guarding the obelisk by coiling around it: they are enormous snakelike constructs made out of linked vertebrae and rib cages and animated by fell energies named tombslithers. They attempt to neutralize anyone who tries to damage the obelisk with their dance of death before tearing them apart with their teeth.

Death-Infused(Su) A Tombslither has been created via foul magic fueled by negative energy. As such, it counts as an undead for effects that can target or affect undead (such as desecrate; the bonuses from the effect are already factored in the stat block) and can be harmed by positive energy and healed by negative energy as if it was undead.
XP Award: Award the party 9,600 XP if they successfully neutralize the obelisk.

D3 - Burial Room

This chamber is lined with stone sarcophagi, each depicting the likeness of a dwarven warrior on the lid, his or her hands clutching an actual weapon embedded in the stone of the lid.
The corpses in the eleven sarcophagi lining this room haven’t awakened yet. At your discretion, either the PCs or an NPC may use spells such as animate dead or create undead to turn them into powerful undead creatures. If this happens, the newly created undead arm themselves with their respective weapons if they haven’t been taken away already.
Treasure: The warriors within the sarcophagi were buried with the weapons they wielded in life embedded on the lids. The weapons can be pried off with some effort. In total, they amount to three masterwork warhammers, four masterwork greataxes, a mithral earth breaker, a +1 mithral battleaxe, two +1 heavy maces, and a +1 giant bane true mithral greataxe.

D4 - Memorial Hall(CR 11)

The walls of this hall are covered in rows of carved runes.
This hall is where the names and elegies of all the dwarves who should have been buried in the mausoleum, but whose bodies were unable to be recovered. There are about 100 names carved in total.
Haunt: The undead uprising has awakened several disquiet spirits who gravitated to this room, lamenting the dreadful fate of those who were denied their eternal rest. These spirits have taken the form of a haunt.

Lament of the Unburied CR 6
XP 2,400
NE persistent haunt (Area D4)

hp 27 Weakness fooled by hide from undead Trigger proximity Reset 1 minute
Effect The haunt telepathically sends a mournful moan to all living creatures in the area, making them shaken for 6 minutes (Will DC 16 negates).
Destruction The obelisk in area D2 must be neutralized or destroyed, and a funeral ceremony must be held reciting the names of all memorialized in the carvings.
Creatures: A group of will-o’-wisps has taken residence in this room, basking in the agony of the mournful spirits. They have a truce of sorts with Gurnir and will not attack his allies, though they will glut themselves on the PCs’ fear and cackle contentedly if they become shaken from the haunt. For enemies of Gurnir, they wait invisibly until the haunt triggers and then eagerly attack.
Will-o’-wisps(4) CR 6
XP 9,600(2,400 each)
hp 42 (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary pg. 277)

D5 - Contained Monstrosity(CR 14)

Whatever this burial hall must have once looked like, it is now in shambles. Stone rubble fills the room, and the remains of skeletal bodies and broken weapons are scattered about.
This was yet another burial chamber, though it is now unrecognizable due to its current occupant rampaging through it. The entire room counts as difficult terrain. A barricade has been erected to block off entrance in the room, but it can be clambered over with a DC 15 Climb check or smashed down (40 hp, hardness 5).
Creature: Gurnir once attempted to create a powerful undead from the warriors buried in this chamber, but while he partially succeeded, he was unable to control it. The uncontrolled warsworn fortunately proved unable to exit the room in its agitated state and is currently dormant. If attacked from the corridor, it will retaliate by using its animate objects, telekinesis and scrap ball attack to damage the PCs at range.
Gurnir won’t resent the PCs if they destroy it, seeing as it serves no purpose for him, but will appreciate it if they use magic to take control of it and employ it in fighting the Hazzuk-Mun.
Once controlled, the warsworn can be made to calmly squeeze out of the mausoleum within 10 minutes.
Treasure: The room contains a total of ten greatswords and four suits of masterwork full plate. The warsworn uses them against the PCs with its spell-like abilities (each suit of armor deals 2d6 damage when thrown via telekinesis). Embedded in the warsworn is a wand of enervation Gurnir used in creating it, with 7 charges remaining.

D6 - Room of Ashes(CR 11)

Several niches surround this room, each with various large urns standing inside.
Though burial is the typical way of honoring the dead in dwarven culture, in some cases such as during plagues or wars it was infeasible to arrange for the burial of every victim, thus cremation became a necessity. The burnt remains of over 200 dwarves are stored in the urns here.
Creatures: Relomin, one of Gurnir’s retainers, is keeping vigil in this room, joined by two burning wraiths who rose from the souls of the cremated. If the PCs start a noisy fight with the will-o’-wisps in area D4 or are fighting Gurnir in area D7, they come to join the battle in 1d4+1 rounds. If the PCs previously attacked the Mausoleum or the obelisk in area D2 is destroyed, Relomin relocates to Gurnir’s room to defend him, leaving only the wraiths here.

D7 - Gurnir’s throne room

This vast hall’s walls are covered with bas-reliefs depicting dwarves performing feats of heroism, building mighty walls, slaying dragons and giants, and donning lavish jewelry. Beneath the largest decoration of all, a noble dwarf raising an exquisitely carved scepter, a tall throne carved of stone stands imposingly in front of a round table..
This is the hall where Gurnir holds council with his closest allies. As the room where the late king was supposed to be buried, this place holds a lot of sway on his spirit, both binding him to the land of the living and acting as the seat of his power. On the throne a special glyph has been inscribed, which will trigger a desecrate effect centered on it if a command word is uttered.
Creatures: Gurnir can be found in this room, holding the Scepter of Dammerhall, one of the three symbols of rulership of the ancient dwarven kingdom, in his ghostly hands. As a legitimate High King of Dammerhall, his bond with the regalia is so powerful that he can wield and manipulate them with his incorporeal body as if they possessed the ghost touch property.
The interactions between the PCs and Gurnir will depend on their standing with him. One way or the other, the undead king must be put to rest if they are to claim Dammerhall. There are two ways they can go about that:
Destroy Gurnir
This is the most straightforward example, and the only one available to Overlords, as Gurnir will not compromise with them and defend the necropolis fiercely against drow, not even considering making them allies of convenience against the Hazzuk-Mun. To permanently banish Gurnir from his undead existence, his ghost must first be destroyed, the obelisk in area D2 destroyed or dispelled to remove the unhallow effect on the mausoleum, and a hallow spell must be cast in the throne room.If the PCs haven’t made an enemy of Lady Dirge, she can instead bless the area and prevent Gurnir’s rejuvenation after he’s been destroyed.
Either way, Gurnir’s destruction sends a wave of despair among the undead still fighting in Dammerhall. The chance to encounter patrols of undead in the streets of Dammerhall falls to 25% and the Hazzuk-Mun gain 10 Integrity points as they gain the upper hand against them. The PCs also gain 5 points of Attention from Lady Dirge, who awards them their final rewards according to the table at the beginning of this chapter.
Lay Gurnir to rest
Explorers who either ally with Gurnir or reach him after recovering the Axe of Dammerhall (area XX) and the Sash of Dammerhall (area XX) can alternatively get him to pass on by showing him a Dammerhall once again ruled by a legitimate heir to the throne, be it an actual descendant of the ancient kings or a successor nominated by Gurnir himself. For all his folly, seeing the great city being once again under dwarven rule is the one thing that will convince him to depart peacefully from this world.
When granting audience to the PCs in person (whether they are his enemies or allies), Gurnir starts by rambling on, musing bitterly on how he plans to strike back at Hazzuk with everything he can muster and cursing the psychopomps for meddling in his justified vengeance. If the PCs interject and broach the topic of who will rule Dammerhall once Hazzuk is slain, Gurnir snaps to attention. Read or paraphrase the following:
“Who indeed will rule Dammerhall. Do you believe you can shoulder the responsibility of that station? Return our glorious kingdom to its ancient splendor? Do not besmirch the greatness of our kingdom by implying you can reclaim it by merely marching troops through its lands and placing a crown upon your own head!
No, Dammerhall will not have its new High King so long as Hazzuk still draws breath in our palace and the three regalia of the dwarves lay scattered. If it truly is my blood, or at least those of the true warriors of Dammerhall running through your veins, you will not make such a claim until you have reunited the scepter with the axe and sash, and painted the palace’s floor with the usurper’s foul blood!”
If further pressed, he keeps directing the PCs towards recovering the two regalia and killing Hazzuk. At this point, he will not attack the PCs, secretly hoping they will accept and be up to the task, or at least damage Hazzuk’s forces while trying to achieve them.
If the PCs return to this room after achieving those feats, Gurnir’s attitude shifts dramatically. After briefly asking to confirm that the dwarf carrying the two regalia is the one laying claim to the title, read or paraphrase the following:
The ancient ghost rises from his throne, holding the scepter in both hands. In a booming, solemn voice, he speaks to you.
“The bloodline of Dammerhall is restored. The lineage of kings continues. By the name of the Tarnhammer inscribed in our ancestral regalia, and baptized by the blood of the usurper, I declare you, [name], my legitimate successor, heir to the throne of Dammerhall, Jarl of the kingdom beneath the mountains, High [King/Queen] of the Dwarves. May your rulership be keen as true mithral, solid as the bedrock, and long-lived as the caves.“
Said that, he presents the scepter and waits, unmoving, for your hands to take it.
After the PC who is to become High King has taken the scepter, Gurnir draws one final, relieved sigh. His crooked visage turns briefly into the stern, wise image of a king, before the ghost dissipates completely into thin mist. A wave of stillness washes over Dammerhall, the last command of the king’s final vigil compelling the undead to abandon their unlife. Incorporeal undead instantly dissipate, while corporeal ones march to the Necropolis and crawl back into their graves, returning to rest unending. This resolution earns the PCs 8 points of Attention from Lady Dirge.

TACTICS
Before Combat Gurnir casts mage armor on himself every day. If the obelisk in area D2 is destroyed and there isn’t a graveknight providing him with the benefits of desecrate, he uses a standard action to activate the desecrate glyph on the throne, afterwards he casts blur and freedom of movement on himself. The bonuses from the spells have already been factored in his statblock.
During Combat Gurnir casts greater command from the Scepter to make his enemies lie on the ground, then casts cloudkill to wear them down while they’re immobile. Afterwards, he activates his corrupting gaze and blasts them with his array of offensive spells, resorting to melee combat with his scepter and corrupting touch only as a last resort.
Morale Gurnir fanatically defends his throne room until destroyed.
Treasure: Besides Gurnir’s equipment, the room contains several treasures and magic items, some of which are heirlooms Gurnir had brought here from the other crypts, and others magical items he and his followers used to grow his army of undead. In total, there are two scrolls of harm, a ring of feather falling, a wand of resist acid (CL 7) with 15 charges left, a jar of stone salve, two scrolls of summon monster V, a diamond-studded mithral bracelet worth 2,500 gp, an exquisite map of Dammerhall embroidered in gold stitching worth 1,800 gp, a leather pouch with ten blood-red rubies worth 250 gp each, 270 mithral coins, 1350 gp, 6500 sp and 8,800 cp in dwarven coinage.

Scepter of Dammerhall
Slot none; Aura strong (conjuration, enchantment, transmutation); CL 15th;
Weight 8 lbs. Price 42,600 gp
This exquisite scepter, carved out of stone and decorated with an intricate pattern of runes and dwarven heraldry, is one of the symbols of rulership of the ancient dwarven kingdoms. It can be wielded as a +2 heavy mace, and grants the wielder a +5 competence bonus on Knowledge(local), Knowledge(nobility) and Knowledge(history) checks related to dwarves and dwarven culture and settlements. Finally, it acts as a magical staff. If the wielder is a dwarf, they can cast the spells as if they had them on their spell list and once per day they can attempt a DC 20 Wisdom check to restore one charge to the scepter. It can cast the following spells:
Command (1 charge)
Forebear’s visage (1 charge)
Stone shape (2 charges)
Wall of stone (2 charges)
Greater command (3 charges)

2023.03.23 11:37 StrengthChoice1734 [Article] Hodinkee's Top 40 Watches on the market

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/our-40-favorite-watches-on-the-market-right-now
Article text:
"Well, folks. Here it is. The formation of a new canon.
The list you see here was compiled – after great deliberation – by the editors and staffers of Hodinkee to demonstrate how we view watch collecting today.
Of all the timepieces currently in production, these are the 40 we think matter most. The ones we'd buy ourselves or recommend to our friends.
They're watches that stand for something or represent a certain superlative – for instance, the best chronograph. The most coveted design piece. The most badass diver. The strongest value proposition.
The Hodinkee 40 recognizes modern classics at every price point, as well as innovations that continue to push the industry forward. Prices start at $50 and go all the way up to $1 million. From quartz movements to mechanical wonders to the undisputed top-of-the-line smartwatch, our selections represent the breadth of contemporary collecting.
The only limitations we placed on ourselves when making the list were that: (1) every watch is currently in production, and (2) none are a numbered limited edition. With these restrictions we had to exclude a number of our favorites, but we wanted the list to be useful – watches that are actually on the market, right now. Sure, some are hard to get. But every one is worth knowing about.
We plan to update this list once or twice a year, as new releases blow our minds. That way it's a living document – you can bookmark it or share it, and know it's always up to speed with our evolving tastes and the vagaries of the market.
One more thing: You'll notice this list is in alphabetical order. That's because we want your help ranking the Hodinkee 40. There's a poll at the end of this article. Please vote. In April, we'll reveal the results and crown the people's champ.
With no further ado, the inaugural Hodinkee 40.
A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph
It just might be the world's best modern chronograph
📷
No, it's not as historically important as the Datograph, but the 1815's slimmed-down profile means it's more wearable. In 2017, Lange introduced a white gold version combined with a black dial, the 1815 we'd been waiting for all along. If you're the type of person who's regularly looking at high-end chronographs, this white metal/black dial combination is exactly what makes your heart – and savings – turn to mush. And with the 1815 Chronograph, the aesthetics are only half the story. Flip the watch over and you'll see Lange's caliber L951.5, the finest serially produced manual-wind chronograph being made today. It's got all the technical goodies you'd expect – column wheel, vertical clutch, jumping minute counter – but it's mostly discussed because it looks so damn good. Aficionados say the movement's depth makes it look like a mini-city, and it's one I wouldn't mind getting lost in. –Tony Traina
The white gold Lange 1815 chronograph measures 39.5mm by 11mm thick. The manual-wind caliber L951.5 features 60 hours of power reserve. For more, visit A. Lange & Söhne.
Apple Watch Ultra
The smartest smartwatch ever made
📷
Sometimes things are popular for a good reason. Adele has a great voice. Cheeseburgers are delicious. The Apple Watch is a useful tool that makes a lot of people's lives easier. Last year's Apple Watch Ultra built on what worked in previous models and added a handful of features – many useful (better battery life, temperature sensors, emergency siren) and some frivolous (new faces!) – which is kind of the crux of watch enthusiasm, no? In an industry where product changes can sometimes be as baffling as they are frustrating, the Apple Watch pushes us forward to places no timepiece has gone before. –Nora Taylor
The Apple Watch Ultra features a titanium case measuring 49mm. MSRP: $799. For more, visit Apple.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Ref. 16202
The integrated bracelet icon that needs no introduction
📷
Nowadays, you can find countless variations of the Royal Oak. In 1972, there was only one: the "Jumbo." Today, it's still the most important Royal Oak, if not the most important sport watch, full stop. In 2022, Audemars Piguet updated and improved the Royal Oak Jumbo for its 50th anniversary, introducing the 16202. The reference didn't bring dramatic changes, but when we're talking about the Royal Oak that's not what we want anyway. AP added a new, modern caliber with the specs we've come to expect from a sport watch, but kept the external dimensions the exact same. If you were pressed to choose only one modern AP, this is still the one. –Danny Milton
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" Ref. 16202ST.OO.1240ST.01 measures 39mm x 8.1mm, and 50m of water resistance. MSRP: $33,200. For more, visit Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Black Ceramic 34
This one's for the ladies…and the fellas
📷
Audemars Piguet sure knows how to deliver on the unisex watch front. When this 34mm black ceramic watch was released back in the summer of 2021, it changed the game for all genders. Finally, a watch that was thoroughly modern in execution, yet conveniently sized for all of us who prefer things on the smaller side – a compact, jet-black, all-ceramic watch, complete with the elegantly slim caliber 5800, supplied by Vaucher. Let's hear it for form AND function. If it weren't a limited edition, the Carolina Bucci limited edition – another 34mm black ceramic Royal Oak, but with a subtle rainbow dial, might've been on this list. Every female collector I know is completely enamored with it. –Malaika Crawford
The Black Ceramic Royal Oak Ref. 77350CE.OO.1266CE.03.A measures 34mm x 8.8mm thick and has an MSRP of $53,000. For more, visit Audemars Piguet.
Breitling Aerospace
SuperQuartz is just plain super
📷
A true '80s baby, the Breitling Aerospace launched as a quirky quartz take on the traditional pilot's watch style. The modern Aerospace EVO is a souped-up Chronograph with a minute repeater (surprise!), countdown timer, second time zone, alarm, and calendar. Still quartz-powered (though way more normal-looking in today's landscape) the Aerospace is powered by Breitling's chronometer-certified SuperQuartz caliber, which Breitling says is 10 times more accurate than standard quartz. Chock full of features, long-lasting, and designed to look like nothing else in the lineup, this model may not be as famous as its Breitling siblings. But in our minds the Aerospace is still a star. –Nora Taylor
The Breitling Aerospace features a titanium case measuring 43mm and uses a SuperQuartz movement with a chronograph, day, date, countdown timer, second time zone, alarm, and minute repeater. For more, visit Breitling.
Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar
The world's thinnest perpetual calendar
📷📷Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar Titanium
Few brands have been able to take a watch and make it a platform for a singular groundbreaking achievement. For Bulgari and the Octo Finissimo, breaking records is just another day at the office. It all started in 2014, when Bulgari set the record for the world's thinnest tourbillon. Today it's 2021's Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar that feels like the standard-bearer. Just 5.8mm thick, it features an automatic in-house movement that clocks in at just 2.75mm tall – and that ruthlessly knocked Audemars Piguet off the top spot for the thinnest perpetual calendar, a title it's held ever since. With unmistakable design language, titanium case, and an integrated bracelet, the watch wears comfortably and shockingly light. And you literally cannot top its horological prowess. –Mark Kauzlarich
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar has a titanium case measuring 40mm x 5.8mm. It's powered by Bulgari's automatic in-house perpetual calendar caliber BVL 305, 2.75mm thick. MSRP: $71,000. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Bulgari Serpenti (Yellow Gold)
Drop-dead gorgeous
📷
I dare you to find a watch sexier than the Bulgari Serpenti. The yellow gold double-twirl wins every time. From the way its sinuous form grips your arm to the ribbed texture of the Tubogas bracelet and the subtle flash of diamonds on the bezel, the sum of these qualities just exude heady Italian glamor.
Not all watches win awards for mechanical prowess; we think perfect design like this is equally worthy of celebration. The Serpenti has seen all sorts of twists and turns, it has morphed into multiple variations, with different metals, sizes, and even complications (tiny tourbillons!). But this model remains the most outstanding. If a yellow-gold Serpenti was good enough for Elizabeth Taylor, it's good enough for the rest of us. –Malaika Crawford
The Bulgari Serpenti Tubogas features a 35mm 18-karat yellow gold curved case set with diamonds and a double-spiral 18-karat bracelet. For more, visit Bulgari.
Cartier Crash
An asymmetrical masterpiece that's more coveted than ever
📷
No legacy watch has had as prolific of a rise over the past few years as the Cartier Crash. Five years ago, a vintage Crash was a weird 1960s relic that sold for about $30,000 at auction, cared about by only a small group of in-the-know collectors. Slowly, then seemingly suddenly, the Crash was everywhere. Public figures were wearing vintage Crashes, and every real-deal collector started paying attention to the model. So did Cartier: In 2018, it brought the Crash back to its lineup to celebrate the reopening of its London boutique, where the watch was born in 1967. The new Crash is still about as rare as the original: Cartier only produces one a month, and you can bet they're reserved for your favorite collector's favorite collector. Today we see the Crash as a timeless design that represents everything Cartier is, totally singular and creatively unmatched. –Tony Traina
The Cartier Crash ref. WGCH0006 features a yellow-gold case measuring 22.5mm x 38.5mm. One piece is made per month, exclusively for the Cartier London boutique.
Cartier Panthère (Yellow Gold)
Yes, we are aware of the Tank. Right now, we prefer this cool kitty
📷
The Cartier Panthere in yellow gold is an unimpeachable crowd pleaser. It has an easy-to-manage quartz movement, a beautifully crafted linked bracelet, blue sword hands, Roman numerals, rail track minute counter, and sapphire crown. It is a simple elegance that doesn't overwhelm a beginner but still speaks to a seasoned veteran. Initially released in the '80s as a delicate response to the decade's opulence – more party-ready than a Tank and more blingy than a Must – the Panthère has aged into an classic all its own. –Nora Taylor
The Panthère de Cartier measures 23mm x 30mm and uses a quartz movement. MSRP: $21,600. For more, visit Cartier.
Chopard Alpine Eagle 36
A modern sport watch that soars above the rest
📷
A beautifully finished automatic steel sport watch clocking in at 36mm just over $10,000? Where do I sign up? The Alpine Eagle is Chopard's entry into the steel sport watch boom of the past few years, but deeply rooted in its own history – taking cues from the long-gone St. Moritz but weaving in its modern manufacturing know-how. Chopard's own abrasion-resistant Lucent Steel A223 case surrounds an in-house, COSC-certified automatic caliber. Its good looks don't end there – many fans, including my Hodinkee compatriots, sing the praises of the watch's three-link integrated bracelet. The steel sport watch nest is crowded, but the Alpine Eagle is an excellent choice for collectors looking to soar above the ordinary. –Nora Taylor
The Chopard Alpine Eagle 36 has a steel case with 100m of water resistance. It uses Chopard's in-house COSC-certified caliber 09.01-C with a 42-hour power reserve. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Doxa Sub 300 Professional
A quirky cult classic diver – in orange!
📷
The orange Professional Doxa Sub 300 is the modern expression of a charming tool watch design that dates back to 1967 – a time when sex was safe and diving was dangerous. Cousteau vibes abound, and nothing looks like, or wears like, a Doxa Sub 300 with its cushion case, bubble crystal, twin-scale no-decompression bezel, tiny hour hand, and fun-loving orange dial. For my money (and penchant for dive watches), the Doxa Sub 300 is among the coolest sport watches ever made. The design has aged beautifully and packs more charm per millimeter than you'll find in just about any other diver. –James Stacey
The Doxa Sub 300 measures 42.5mm and 13.4 thick. It features a COSC-certified automatic ETA caliber, screw-down crown, and 300 meters of water resistance. MSRP: $2,490. For more, visit Doxa.
F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance
The defining work of this generation's master independent watchmaker
📷
There might not be a better watchmaking story on the Hodinkee 40 than the F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance. While François-Paul Journe has produced more complicated watches in the past (like his chiming Sonnerie Souveraine) or even present (the Astronomic is one of the most complicated on the market), the Résonance has its roots in a phenomenon first observed in the 1600s. Some of history's greatest watchmakers have pursued the phenomenon, but none have mastered it like Journe. The double-dialed dual timezone display hints at the magic of the movement inside – two balances that beat side-by-side, unconnected, but in sync, with each of their vibrations harmonizing to create an incredibly accurate movement, appropriate for a man and brand obsessed with accuracy and pushing watchmaking to its technical limits. –Mark Kauzlarich
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance features Journe's Caliber 1520 which uses two independent escapements and balances. Pricing starts at $136,700 in rose gold. For more, visit F.P. Journe.

The Snowflake, with a subtle pink twist
📷📷Heritage Spring Drive Four Seasons Spring U.S. Exclusive SBGA413
The Grand Seiko SBGA413, aka Shunbun, is the quintessential watch from the largest luxury watch brand in the East. Sure, the SBGA211, aka the Snowflake, initially grabbed the world's attention, but the Shunbun is a bestseller in its own right. It has Grand Seiko's nearly proprietary Spring Drive movement that provides quartz-level accuracy and a seconds hand that sweeps smoothly across a subtly textured light pink dial inspired by scattered cherry blossom petals. Let's not forget that Zaratzu-polished feather-light titanium case and bracelet. Japanese craftsmanship meets Japanese nature. It's sublime. –Brandon Menancio

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical
The value-packed introduction to that manual-winding lifestyle
📷📷Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm Black Dial
A handful of familiar names are always bandied about as answers to the age-old question: "What should my first mechanical watch be?" And the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is almost always at or near the top of that list. With a certain styling reminiscent of old military field watches, a slim 38mm case, and an incredibly useful 12- and 24-hour scale, the Khaki Field Mechanical takes faux-vintage to an accessible price point under 600 bucks. And it's not just an entry-level watch. Much like a G-Shock, you'll see this in collections that include Patek and Rolex. And if you're a newbie, this is your gateway to a future horological addiction. –Danny Milton

IWC Mark XX
Part pilot's watch, part field watch — it works all day, every day
📷
No other pilot's watch has quite the same history, dashing good looks and (relatively) modest luxury price point as the trusted IWC Mark XX. Since the Mark series came into its own with the Mark XI after WWII, the line has been a terrific option for anyone who wants a watch that's just as good on land as it is in the sky. With 100m of water resistance, a reasonable 40mm case, a simple dial layout that matches almost any attire, and a movement with a five-day power reserve, the Mark XX could even make the case for a one-watch collection. But who am I kidding? That's impossible! –Brandon Menancio

MB&F LM-101
A Legacy Machine from a magician and his friends
📷
Max Büsser & Friends (aka MB&F) don't make watches, they make machines. And while the brand's "Horological Machine" line with avant-garde style was its first, the "Legacy Machines" have taken off as an optimized blend of modern styling and traditional watchmaking. MB&F announced the LM-101 in 2014 with a comparatively affordable price, wearable 40mm size, and movement with a hairspring from friends at H. Moser & Cie. The movement was developed by independent watchmaking genius Kari Voutilainen and shown off through a dramatic domed crystal with a giant balance wheel floating over two enameled dials and a sunburst metal baseplate. The dial colors and metals have changed to keep the line fresh over the last nine years. If not for making something this wonderful, what are friends for? –Mark Kauzlarich
The MB&F Legacy Macine 101 measures 40mm and features a manual-wind movement developed by MB&F and designed and finished by Kari Voutilainen, displaying a three-dimensional flying balance wheel. For more, visit MB&F.
Nomos Tangente 38
The definitive Bauhaus watch
📷
The Tangente 38 is the Nomos model most representative of the brand in both design and execution. It's minimal, versatile, and none other than F.P. Journe has sung the praises of Nomos as an incredible watchmaking value at its price point. The Tangente works well on anyone, not just ol' F.P., constructed with strong design principles that make it feel refined and timeless. At its price range, it's hard to find competitors that offer in-house movements with the same level of finishing and build quality. –TanTan Wang

Omega Seamaster 300M
Bond…Omega Bond
📷📷Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer 42mm Blue Dial On Bracelet
In 1993, Omega introduced the Seamaster Professional 300M, a modern take on the dive watch. The wave dial was an instant hit. Soon the blue Seamaster 300M even found its way onto James Bond's wrist. Over the past 30 years, Omega has never rested on the Seamaster's success, continuing to tweak the 300M for the better. The skeletonized hands have improved, the dial is now ceramic to match the bezel, and the movement is co-axial (not to mention a Master Chronometer). With each new generation the Seamaster 300M continues to cement its reputation as a classically styled but cutting-edge dive watch. It's simply one of the best modern divers around. –Mark Hackman
The Omega Seamaster 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer measures 42mm x 13.5mm with 300m of water resistance. It uses Omega's METAS-certified automatic caliber 8800. MSRP: $5,600 on bracelet. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Hesalite
"Moonwatch" says it all
📷📷Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 42mm Hesalite Crystal On Bracelet With Caliber 3861
Up until today, the list of essential watches according to Hodinkee wasn't a list at all – it was the Speedmaster Professional. "I'm not saying you have to keep it," Ben Clymer wrote in 2016, "but I really think each man or woman who loves watches owes it to themselves to own a manually wound, three-register Speedmaster at some point in their lives."
We still love it and always will. In 2016, the Speedmaster to own was a vintage example or a "Pre-Moon." But Ben and the vintage nerds didn't have the new-for-2021 Moonwatch equipped with Omega's superb caliber 3861. Incremental improvements over more than half a century have given us the ultimate modern Speedmaster. Go with the hesalite crystal if you're like me and want the old-school Moonwatch feel, though the "sapphire sandwich" is a nice way of Omega flexing. –Rich Fordon
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph uses Omega's METAS-certified caliber 3861. It measures 42mm x 13.6mm and features 50m of water resistance; it has a Hesalite crystal and closed caseback. MSRP: $6,600 on bracelet. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.

In 2021, a refreshed Big Crown Pointer Date arrived with the in-house caliber 403, which boasts a five-day power reserve, resistance to magnetism, 10-year service interval, and better-than-COSC accuracy. A sleeker bezel (along with updated font and hands) pumped new life into the model. Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante
A sleek sport watch with an innovative complication
📷
During a time when just about every brand has its riff on a sport watch, Parmigiani does something truly original. The brand introduced its Tonda PF line in 2021, but the GMT Rattrapante from 2022 is what brought the collection into its own. The complication is an absolute joy to use – a button is discreetly hidden in the teardrop lug at 8 o'clock. Press it to advance the white gold hour hand, and a yellow gold hour hand is revealed below to track home time. Other than that, the GMT Rattrapante stays sleek, slim, and understated, the defining traits of the Tonda PF that've quickly made it a world-class sport watch. –Tony Traina

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5270
The most important complication combination in high horology, now in-house
📷
The perpetual calendar chronograph is to Patek Philippe what the Daytona is to Rolex. And yet when it was introduced in 2011, the 5270 wasn't well-received. Sure, it was Patek's first perpetual calendar chronograph with an in-house caliber, but some thought the design was too big, too bulky, or just unbalanced. But over the past decade-plus, the 5270 has bettered its aesthetics to match the achievement that is Patek's in-house CH 29-535 PS Q. Today, the 5270 is offered in a trio of metals – yellow gold, rose gold (with matching rose gold bracelet), and 2022's platinum version. While it might not have the collector following of the previous references in Patek's all-important lineage (yet), there's no doubt that, as with all Patek perpetual calendar chronographs, it's only a matter of time. –Tony Traina
The Patek Philippe 5270 features the caliber CH 29‑535 PS Q, Patek's first in-house perpetual chronograph movement. It measures 41mm x 12.4mm and starts at $187,400. For more, visit Patek Philippe.
Patek Aquanaut 5167A
A modern sport watch that builds on Genta's legacy
📷
If you want a simple stainless steel sport watch from Patek Philippe in 2023, the Aquanaut is really your only option. Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut is Patek's most recent attempt at a casual sport watch, complete with a tropic rubber strap. It's smaller and less expensive than the Nautilus, while still managing to capture the essence of Gérald Genta's design. The Aquanaut is not exactly a secret and remains difficult for mere mortals to buy at retail, but the demand is justified. Few watches have been as important to Patek's history over the past 25 years. –Tony Traina
The Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001 has a steel case measuring 40.8mm x 8.1mm that comes on a black rubber strap. It uses Patek's caliber 26‑330 SC with a 45-hour power reserve. MSRP: $24,250. For more, visit Patek Philippe.
Ressence Type 1 Slim
Design so good, it needs no introduction
📷📷Type 1 Slim White
The avant-garde Belgian watchmaker Ressence is one of the only brands confident enough not to slap its name on the dial – the design speaks for itself. Nothing else looks like a Ressence. Nothing else works like a Ressence. Nothing else has the audacity to introduce a whole new way of time telling like the Ressence Orbital Convecs System (which shortens to the acronym ROCS, and which does indeed rock). The watches are not easy to find, or to afford – and in models like the 46mm Type 5, they're also not easy to wear. But the Type 1 Slim shrinks and flattens the case size (by at least 4mm in each direction) and knocks 15 grand off the price. So even the bill is slimmer. –Nick Marino
The Ressence Type 1 Slim measures 42mm x 11mm and is water resistant to 100m. The orbital display system uses Ressence's automatic ROCS system to show the hours, minutes, seconds, and day of the week. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Richard Mille RM27 Series
A trophy watch, yes. But also a technical marvel that's so light it floats
📷
Richard Mille, the most divisive brand in horology, continues to rack up achievements in mechanical and material innovation. It has established an instantly recognizable design language. And the model you see here is the one we think best reflects the virtues of a watchmaker that routinely charges seven figures a pop. Would we actually wear it? Hell yes, we would.
The RM 27 series was made in partnership with tennis champ and RM brand ambassador Rafael Nadal, specifically developed for Rafa to wear while he plays in matches. The original RM27 blew our minds when it floated on water in 2010. Then in 2020, the latest RM27-04 upped the ante with its ability to resist accelerative forces in excess of 12,000 Gs, all while only weighing a mere 30 grams, including the strap! Which works out to about $33,000 per gram. –Malaika Crawford

Rolex Day-Date 36 Ref. 128238
The dress watch to end all dress watches
📷📷Day-Date President 18238
It's as perfect as an Eames chair. As stylish as a 911. As beautiful as Audrey Hepburn. As dignified as Sidney Poitier. As immutable as the laws of physics. With its applied hour markers, supreme legibility, fluted bezel, champagne dial, and general bearing of elegance, the Day-Date looks almost exactly the same today as it did 40 years ago, which is the point. We are all for progress. But to change something this perfect would be a crime. –Nick Marino
The Rolex Day-Date ref. 128238 has a yellow-gold case measuring 36mm x 12.1mm with 100m of water resistance. It's powered by Rolex's COSC-certified caliber 3255 with 70 hours of power reserve. MSRP: $35,000. For more, visit Rolex.
Rolex ‘Rainbow’ Daytona
The planet's most exciting gem-set timepiece — and the rainbow every other brand is still chasing
📷
Rainbows are everywhere in watchmaking these days, and the modern lineage begins with Rolex. We would argue that it also ends with Rolex. One thing's for sure: The Rainbow Daytona sets the benchmark for gem-setting in watchmaking. The quality of craftsmanship and calibration, the gradient of hand-selected sapphires, it's all so good…and so Rolex.
Lest anyone think this is "just" about the bling (not that there's anything wrong with that), remember that lapidary is no easy feat when it comes to watches. Up to 90 percent of each colored stone is disposed of in order to ensure they all fit perfectly into the gradient setting. And then there's the case, a rose-gold stunner even for those of us who prefer yellow.
The Daytona ref. 116595RBOW has forced the entire industry to reposition its approach to the much-neglected discipline of gem-setting. It now has many imitators, but it remains in a league of its own. –Malaika Crawford
The Rolex Daytona ref. 11659 RBOW has a 40mm case in Everose gold. It features pink gold crystal subdials, 36 baguette-set sapphires in the bezel, 56 diamonds set into the lugs and case, and colored 11 sapphire indexes. MSRP: $96,600. Since not even Rolex will tell you much more, check out our hands-on with the Rainbow Daytona.
Rolex Submariner 124060 No Date
The platonic ideal of a modern watch
📷📷Submariner 124060
Since its introduction in the early 1950s, the Rolex Submariner has become synonymous with the word "wristwatch." It is both never-changing and ever-changing. Most of us who wear one will never go diving, but Rolex continues to finesse the design, making it more capable as the years go on. Nowadays, you'll find the Sub with a ceramic bezel for increased scratch resistance. The case has been upsized to 41mm, but that size increase actually worked to slim down the overall profile. It's a sexy watch, it's a robust watch, and it could be the only watch you would ever need – especially in no-date form. Come on, it needs no further justification. It's the freakin' Rolex Submariner. –Danny Milton
The Rolex Submariner ref. 124060 has a stainless steel case measuring 41mm x 12mm with 300m of water resistance. It's powered by Rolex's COSC-certified caliber 3230 with 70 hours of power reserve. MSRP: $9,100. For more, visit Rolex.
Seiko Alpinist
Not just for mountaineers
📷📷Prospex 'Alpinist' SPB121 With Green Dial On Brown Strap
When Seiko resurrected the Alpinist in three references in 2006, the green-dialed SARB017 took the watch enthusiast community by storm. Today, the modern SPB series Alpinist remains a value proposition with heritage and a beautiful dial design, plus the unique internal rotating compass bezel. The Alpinist can be an easy starter watch or a worthy addition to an already fleshed-out collection. We think it surpasses even the hallowed Seiko 5. With a multitude of dial colors to choose from (the green SBP121 is still our favorite), the Alpinist has established itself as a force in Seiko's current lineup. –TanTan Wang
The Seiko Alpinist SBP 117, 119, 121, 123, and SBP 209 measure 39.5mm x 13.2mm with 200m of water resistance. The Alpinist features Seiko's automatic caliber 6R35 with 70 hours of power reserve. MSRP: $725. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Seiko Prospex SPB317
Seiko and diver – two words that just go together
📷
You can't form a list of great watches without a Seiko diver, and the Prospex SPB317 is our pick — embodying so much of what we love about Seiko dive-watch design. The black dial offers a backdrop for a vintage-inspired handset with ample legibility and excellent lume. The wide steel case sits flat on your wrist with an offset crown at 4 o'clock. The bezel is just begging for a PADI certification and some bottom time. Even if you don't dive, a Seiko diver offers a huge amount of value and enjoyment to just about any watch enthusiast. And this is the best one out there. –James Stacey
The Seiko SBP317 measures 41mm x 12.3mm and is water resistant to 200m. It's powered by the automatic Seiko caliber 6R35 with a 70-hour power reserve. MSRP: $900. For more, visit Seiko.
Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch
The universe-altering collab that had fans lining up across the globe
📷
It's the watch that broke the internet and wasn't even sold online — a Swatch x Omega collaboration that turned a whole new generation into watch enthusiasts, and that was so popular upon release that the cops had to be called in to control the crowds. The piece itself is basically a Speedmaster in a Bioceramic (a.k.a. plastic) case. It comes in 11 colorful and celestial-themed designs. It costs less than $300 and remains one of the most challenging watches to buy at retail unless you don't care which model you purchase. We see fewer MoonSwatches on the street than we do Royal Oaks; a year after the first release, there's still an excitement to spotting one in the wild. –Danny Milton
The Omega MoonSwatch has a BioCeramic case measuring 42mm x 13.5mm. It retails for $260 at Swatch stores (if you can find one!). For more on the MoonSwatch, check out our Week on the Wrist.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer 200
Set it and forget it
📷
When this 40mm Aquaracer was released in 2022, one thought came to our mind: TAG Heuer, the Swiss entry-level brand, is back. This is the brand's stab at a watch for everybody. In retrospect, a 40mm TAG Heuer inspired by its first dive watches from the 1980s sounds so obvious (and it is!), but it was missing from the brand's catalog for far too long. Now, finally, we have one that can satisfy both hardcore enthusiasts and mass consumers, all for less than three grand. –Tony Traina
The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 WBP2111 measures 40mm x 11mm. It has 200m of water resistance and is powered by TAG Heuer's automatic caliber 5. For more, visit the Hodinkee Shop.
Timex Q
A funky vintage reissue that's unashamedly quartz
📷
When you're a watch lover with limited resources (like me), you've gotta pick and choose. I generally think it's best to skip the lowest-priced watches, no matter how fun they might be, and save up for the occasional splurge. So it's saying something, then, that I have two different Q Timex editions – they're just undeniable.
Launched in 2019 as a nearly 1:1 reproduction of a vintage Timex from 1979, the squared-off and beveled stainless-steel case is reminiscent of many an integrated-bracelet watch. The prominent "Q" on the dial tells you this is proudly quartz and is all the better for it. It's also been the basis for a lot of cool limited-edition watches over the last four years, including a few GMTs and two Hodinkee releases. The whole H family is on board with this one. –Mark Kauzlarich
The Timex Q Reissue measures 38mm x 11.5mm. It uses a quartz movement and has 50 meters of water resistance. MSRP: $179. For more, visit Timex.

Plus, it contains natural ingredients that enhance penile vitality- so no more worries about ED becoming an issue for good old-fashioned bedroom fun (pun intended). A recent study has shown how Tupi Tea can dramatically reduce inflammation in guys who suffer from anxiety or performance issues due to their little "problem." You don't want this fantastic tea party drinks any other way than straight-up flavor packed full force into one sweet glass mug ready when needed most.

Tupi Tea Review

Tupi Tea is a revolutionary tea that can provide all the benefits of regular consumption without any unpleasant side effects. It guarantees 100% effectiveness in eliminating issues for anyone who drinks it regularly! The breakthrough in nanotechnology can finally address the root of men's s*xual issues. The culprit is the PDE5 enzyme, which sucks blood from your penis and keeps it from becoming erect! Tea called Tupi has been created to combat this problem by blocking these pesky vampire-like cells with an innovative molecule that also protects healthy tissue. As we age, the body produces fewer enzymes and cGMP making it challenging to achieve an erection. When you drink Tupi Tea, it reduces the amount of inflammation in your body and increases cGMP levels. This helps give you longer erections that are more powerful than before! Tupi tea contains a unique blend of herbs that strengthen the immune system and help promote s*xual health. One key ingredient in this drink is Damiana - a condiment known for enhancing, among other things, cGMP production and penile erections! This tea is worth trying if you're looking for a way to keep your reproductive health in check. The PDE5 enzyme and cGMP are both reduced by the active ingredients within it, which helps ensure that we have healthy endothelium deep inside our bodies where they should be--keeping things healthy! Drink it regularly as directed each day; there's no harm done if it's just one cup per session since we only need tiny amounts anyways.

Benefits Of TupiTea

Benefits are the most important of this Tupi Tea Review. If you want a better night's sleep, then tonight is the night for us. This product can help with your ED and also make sure that premature ejaculation doesn't happen! Not only will it reduce the prostate size, but I promise there are other benefits, like being more productive during s*x, because this stuff works wonders on tired muscles. We're looking out over all these options--what do you think about using something called "Prochieve"? The benefits of this supplement are endless, with increased blood flow to the organelle called the endothelium and better overall health. It also boosts cGMP, which ensures that there is no decrease in s*xual function as well! It has been shown repeatedly for its effectiveness on PDE5 levels- preventing harmful enzymes from forming inside or near your important parts like dopamine-producing cells (which we all want them to). Alongside these increases comes an increase within our bodies' production rate of Nitric Oxide, allowing tighter muscle contraction during s*x. You will be able to see results within just two days! With this powerful formula, your penis size can reach its maximum potential in no time at all. You'll also experience an increase in s*xual quality so that you're always ready for action - even when it's with somebody new or old, depending on how much pressure they put themselves under. The magic of this product is that it not only helps you avoid those pesky bedwetting accidents but also keeps your mood light and sleeps soundly. It ensures all parts work smoothly, so there's no stress or discomfort! In short, if we talk about the benefits in terms of the TupiTea review, here is what we can conclude.
Stamina And Confidence
If you want to have a healthy and happy life, it is essential for your body's stamina. Ingredients in this product can help with building better confidence as well!
Nutrient Absorption
Improvised blood flow allows for better absorption and functioning of male parts, which results in improved performance. This can satisfy men as well as their partners!
Larger And Long-Lasting Erections
Would you like to have a bigger, longer-lasting erection? If so, then this product is for YOU! It can help reduce anxiety and nervousness in addition to other benefits such as better testosterone levels.

TupiTea Ingredients

Maca Root
Maca, a plant that grows in the Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia, has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries. Maca contains high levels of amino acids and vitamins, and minerals, making this root very healthy! Maca root has been used for centuries in the Andes as a natural remedy to help libido and s*xual function. It is rich not only in protein but also contains many other nutrients like zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese vitamin B6, among others! Maca root has been used for centuries in Peru to help increase energy levels and promote overall well-being. This ancient herb is also said to make your s*x life more lively by increasing libido, boosting testosterone levels & improving erectile function! Maca root can stimulate your body's production of testosterone, which will help you grow muscles. One study found that men who took maca enjoyed improved s*xual performance, reporting increased stamina and better erection quality or more intense orgasms! Maca roots may help people with anxiety and stress relieve their symptoms and enhance s*xual desire in women.
Tribulus Terrestris
Tribulus Terrestris plant grows in the Mediterranean region. It is used as both an aphrodisiac and to treat impotence or other s*xual problems such as infertility. Tribulus Terrestris contains a saponin compound called triterpenes. And this increases testosterone levels, which directly helps you boost your s*x drive and improve general health. Tribulus is a popular supplement that has been around for centuries. It's believed to be effective at increasing one’s libido and fertility, especially when taken orally in doses between 10-30 milligrams per day or higher! The active ingredients of Trib advise triterpene glycosides which work like steroids - binding with receptors on cells so they can deliver more oxygenated nutrients than before while also vasodilating blood vessels nearby; this benefits s*xual function-related areas such as the genitals where performance may need some extra attention (or boost). One shouldn't take this herb if they are currently taking some prescribed medicines or supplements. Make sure to discuss it with your doctor before starting a new medicine protocol! There are a number of ways to boost your se*ual performance, and one way is with Tribulus. The ingredient most often associated with this plant can cause increased vitality levels in males due to the increased bandwidth for sperm count! And if you suffer from low libido or decreased interest in s*x, then adding some into your diet could help bring back that old self we all love so much about ourselves.
Ginger Extract
Ginger root, an ingredient found in Asian cuisine and medicinal practices for centuries, has been shown to reduce pain during labor and help with postpartum parenting. A recent study by researchers from China revealed that women who consumed two ounces or less of ginger per day were 18% more likely than those without it girl deliver their babies safely after undergoing normal delivery conditions. Ginger has been used as a remedy for centuries to treat ailments ranging from morning sickness and heartburn all the way down to fatigue. It can boost energy levels in your body by fighting off tiredness. It also helps lower cholesterol when you might need an extra edge against fatty deposits building up inside blood vessels. That could lead them blockage due to a lack of nutrients like potassium found naturally present in foods we eat today. Rather than solely relying on medication alone - not to mention other benefits such as positive effects. Ginger is a natural remedy that has been used to treat premature ejaculation, which can be caused by relaxed pelvic floor muscles and slow down the time of ejaculation. It's also beneficial in treating prostate problems due to its effects on inflammation or swelling around the glandular structure within your s*xual organs, known as prostates. Ginger affects many parts of our body, so it may help relieve symptoms for conditions such as low back pain, stomach cramps, etc., among others.
Taurine
It has been said that taurine can enhance s*xual function. One study found 500 mg per day to be effective for older men with erectile dysfunction, which may have something to do with how it affects our brain or keeps sperm healthy! Taurine is an amino acid that can improve male fertility. Surprisingly, researchers at the University of California found out how it works in mice and humans! Mice given taurine had healthier sperm than others; however, when looking into offspring production, there was no difference between both groups. Yet more data must be collected before we conclude this topic. A recent study by Oregon State University researchers discovered that taurine helped regulate testosterone levels in the testes and thus played an essential role during spermatogenesis (the process of making sperm). If you want to improve your fertility or production of eggs, taurine might be just what the doctor ordered! One study showed that when pregnant rats were given supplements containing this amino acid, their ovaries produced more mature ova (and viable sperm) than those not administering it. It is possible that women could also benefit from taking extra doses during pregnancy; however, further research needs to be done on how feminine hormones interact with these findings before concluding.
Zinc Stearate
The connection between zinc and impotence has been extensively studied. However, there is no concrete evidence to prove this link yet. However, some experts say that a lack of sufficient levels can affect your ability for s*x hormones such as testosterone. Testosterone is needed by the body during an erection or even just before penetration begins (due to producing nitric oxide). There are many benefits to maintaining a healthy level of zinc. If your libido is lacking, speak with an expert about whether it's time for some extra supplements. Zinc stearate may be able to help increase desire in both men and women by helping prevent diabetes. One less thing we need to worry about as seniors. Zinc also helps keep blood sugar levels normal so staying sharp is just as good, if not better, than ever before when life gets tough. Yet another benefit to taking zinc is that it may boost your energy levels. Some people use this ingredient as an appetite stimulant, and some research suggests luteinizing hormone (LH) released by the pituitary gland can be increased through the consumption of stearates like those found in meat products or dairy produce. Leading us back full circle! The theory behind how these chemicals work their magic on testosterone production seems pretty sound, too; one possible explanation suggests they stimulate enzymes responsible for manufacturing s*x hormones such s estrogen/testosterone ratios.
Dosage
The excessive amount of any medicine can become poison. And this can be too harmful that it can lead to early death. The capsules are completely natural and won’t make me form any habits. It's advised that adults should consume only two daily doses- one in the morning with breakfast, and another at night before bedtime. However, if we're not sure about our diet or schedule then follow these instructions carefully for the best results! A pill is a great option if you are looking for safe and effective birth control. However, some side effects could affect the body differently. So it's essential to know about them before taking this medication! Doctors recommend against using these pills by people under 18 years old. It is because their developing brains may not handle drugs well enough. Or they can have other conditions such as kidney problems where pharmaceuticals couldn't work correctly due to risk factors associated with advanced age on our health issues like diabetes 2. With so many benefits, it's no wonder that this product has become quite popular. It cannot be easy to know how much you should take or what your body will do with all of these ingredients! But don't worry- we've got the scoop on both topics below. The good news is: unless there are issues regarding digestion/bindingness (which may occur if taking more than two pills daily), then everything else should stay just fine in terms of dosage recommendations - though keep an eye out while consuming them.

2023.03.23 05:30 Austen-Smith The death of Alice.

START OF AUDIO TO TEXT LOG]
Alice: So what is you wish to talk about?
Researcher Tomas: I'd like to hear your story, how you became queen of the dead.
Alice: You want me to start from the beginning?
Researcher Tomas: I would like to hear everything.
Alice: I was alive long before modern humans long before the last stone age.
I was born to a tribe that even I can't even pronounce the name of anymore. At the time magic was common but only used by priest in my tribe, most born with a connection were killed as sacrifices to the gods. When I was a kid we lived in a makeshift hut, a pile of sticks and leafs considered extravagant at the time. My mother would weave baskets and clothes, sometimes she would help build sheilds for the warriors, and my father was a tattoo artist. Every month on a full moon we would gather at the center of the village where the five priest would sacrifice a virgin girl to the gods. they would hold her limbs and use a stone to cut her from waist to chin, remove the organs, then cut out the heart before it could quit beating. The priest would cook the heart in a stew, and the body was carried into the woods for the animals. When I was about sixteen or seventeen the warriors took another tribe's foragers as prisoners and the priests decided to sacrifice their women instead. They began calling on villagers to make the sacrifices, on the third or fourth month I was called upon. I still remember it fondly, four of the priest held the poor girl down and the other guided me through the process. After working the sharp rock he had given me through her skin I got distracted by something, although I can't remember what, I remember it was considered a sinful thought at the time, by the time I had realised what was happening the blade was almost at her throat. It was such a disgusting thing to me back then, the priest shown me how to remove the organs and what order to do so in, I remember the sickening feeling of a holding warm heart in my bear hand. Although they did keep their word and offered me some of the stew made from that heart. This is also around the time I had discovered I was gifted with a connection to magic. I remember the first time I realized that I used it, I was out foraging for berries, the basket I was using was nearly full when I tripped. As I fell the basket slipped out of my hands, I had landed hard and expected to be picking the berries off the ground, but when I looked up my basket was just; floating there right side up and everything, it startled me and the basket fell to the ground. After I had time to relize what had happened it terrified me, only the priests were to have a connection to magic and actively pursue it, all others were to be killed. I sat there for what seemed like hours waiting for someone to come for me, but nobody ever came, I was so brainwashed back then, and so was the entire village. A few days later I went back into the woods and began playing around with my magic, I learned how to pick up objects without even touching them and I started throwing berries against trees, then rocks, at one point I had picked up an entire tree. In a few years I began learning how to make bolts of pure magic and blow chunks out of the dirt with them. Then I heard rumors of who was to be the next sacrifice it turns out someone had seen me practicing in the woods and told the priests, I was next to be cut open and gutted. It was the day before the full moon when I ran out the village and into the woods, I kept running farther and farther into the forest, I passed a clearing and found a little lake to build a small hut on. After a week or so a search party showed up looking for me, and by that time I was ready. I pulled the roots of a tree from the ground and let it fall, it trapped four of the five beneath it, the last man; I decided to try one of the magic bolts. He wasn't wearing armor, I threw it bolt and nailed him in the shoulder, I watched his arm spiral away from the rest of his body. It felt so good see their pain, I had devoted my life to them, waisted so much time hiding my powers and now, now I was ready to tear their entire society apart. Afterward I returned to the village, the priest were scared, they had sent most of our warriors to kill me, our military only had access to slings and spears. I used a few different spells to defend myself, the mirror shield, arcane barrage, and a few others. Eventually, I had made it to the center of the village setting every hut on the way on fire, the priests all knew what was going to happen but they couldn't fight back, all of their magic needed preparation and time, I didn't give them any.
Researcher Tomas: so how did you die?
Alice: I don't know, I must have missed one of the stone throwers, all I can remember is everything turned a cold and oddly, comforting black. After a few seconds I opened my eyes and realized I was sitting in a cave, I used magic to try and navigate through the small tunnel, eventually I found a larger chamber and began preparing to make an attempt at breaking through the chambers ceiling, but nothing worked I tunneled farther and farther but never found a way out. After awhile of living in my little air pocket I heard a voice, it was another person, they told me that I had inspired them to go against their religion. After a few more days another person appeared, and another, then a few more came in as a group, we all put our hands together and started digging in a single direction filling in the tunnel as we went, and eventually we found the first ring. We had dug into a massive void, we could even see more people walking around on the cave floor, some of them noticed us about twenty feet above them. the wall curved at the bottom and the ones that noticed us began clearing the rocks at the bottom. We were so excited nobody stopped to think how much hitting the floor would hurt, all of us slid down the wall nearly in unison. And that's when I noticed him, a sinner with red hair and a stupid smile that nearly put me on the floor.
Researcher Tomas: Lucifer?
Alice: at the time we didn't look like this, we were early humans essentially apes back then but he still stood out compared to the others. We all began talking telling each other what we had done that could have sent us here, about half of them had already heard about the massacre I caused. Soon after we got to know each other we started setting up stone walls and building makeshift houses. As you know there's no weather here so they were mostly for privacy. Years went by more and more people joined us, and while they were busy building houses I was practicing magic and eventually I found out I could make portals. Everyone was excited when I showed them, we sent a team of five through to the other side and all reported back the same thing, on the other side was earth. We didn't know what to do, we were a gang made of multiple religions with multiple backgrounds and beliefs, so we did nothing. We watched as earth changed, I learned how to physically change someone's appearance so we could change with it. Soon we decided to send people to the other side as a scouting mission, they did well, even bringing back some new technology for us, After a few weeks we sent multiple teams in, ten whent through, but only six came back. Team one came back fine but only Lucifer came back from team two, the rest had abandoned us, they broke the laws we were all held to. Yes that is why we were all here, but going against a god that doesn't let you ensure your own safety is one thing, we all stopped honoring them after we got here. These were the laws that we had all agreed upon even those that had abandoned us. Because I was the only person capable of opening the portal I decided to hunt them down, I brought Lucifer to the other side with me so he could help me find them. About halfway through killing the people that tried to abandon us, we fell in love, After a day or two we finished our hunt and returned home. As time went on we changed how we looked to match modern humans, we kept sending people back to gather knowledge about the living world. Soon people tried to bribe me with their knowledge of the living world and the culture. In exchange for their knowledge I would let them return and live our the rest of their lives, soon what they offered me became more and more complex, and just as we expanded people started trying to get to the living world and ignore their debt, so I created the grimms a group of hand selected soldiers to ensure everyone ether paid of their debt, or never left hell. By this time we had multi story houses but were still suffering the effects of overpopulation, I hired a few people to try and find another void or cave we could expand into, some went straight into the walls being careful and checking every inch for signs of a void in the rocks. But one man stood out, the idiot tunneled straight down into the dirt about a quarter mile and found another massive air pocket just like the first. I gave him a reward and made him the son of a king, he took the crown then died of syphilis a few months later. A few years past things changed, Lucifer and I married, then overpopulation reared its ugly head once more. Just like before I hired the same guy and jokingly told him to dig straight down again, he did, and he found the third ring.
Not much happens after that I hire the same guy he finds eight more rings and you ask for this story. Now I have an afterlife to run. I'll tell Katie to send you back.

2023.03.23 04:22 thcfloss ordering medical cannabis from USA.

Hi all.
I am wondering if anyone has gotten MC imported from the states. I've spoken to somebody who says he did and ordered so now its being shipped from the states after his pharmacist ordered it for him.
Can anybody get the 36% root beer float? This is one of the products which they ordered.
Cheers. New one for me.

2023.03.22 18:06 doktaphill THE PASSENGER - ANNOUNCEMENT & NOTES

Hi
I'm going to upload my review of THE PASSENGER by Cormac McCarthy later, and I wanted to drop the notes I used to guide the video here. I also have an article that I will post in a moment. The notes are not very structured by feature references to key passages and provide some insight. Feel free to respond with issues or thoughts, and be sure to pet your cat today.

notes

p. 42, the agents interrogate Bobby
*** p. 47, Bobby mentions that he “left Oiler to get into the plane” while he went back up to the surface. It may be that the agents are constructing a story in order to fill the void, and will later take out Oiler as a possible tamperer. They would then logically take out Bobby for knowing too much. During the conversation, Bobby revealed that they did not take anything from the plane. This might also lay the groundwork for later suspicions of tampering. It’s clear the government does not want this plane to enter into public knowledge.
p. 49, The cohorts
p. 61

“When he got back to the beaach the sun was low over the water and he stood there looking out to the west, the slow gray swells and the thin bight of shore beyond and somewhere beyond that the city where the lights would be coming up. He sat in the sand and dug in his heels and crossed his arms over his knees and watched the sunset and the light on the water. The thin reach of land to the south would be the Chandeleur Archipelago. Beyond that the hydra mouth of the river. Beyond that Mexico. The low tide lapped and drew back. He could be the first person in creation. Or the last. He rose and walked up the beach to the boat and pushed off and climbed in and went to the rear to ballast it off the sand. He took up the oar and poled his way out through the shallows and then sat there watching the deep red of the sunset darken and die.

p. 109 “[Alicia] I suppose that sooner or later you’ll exhaust your little bag of tricks. What happens then?
[Kid] Time will tell.
[Alicia] Your shadow moving over the floor as you pass the lamp is a nice touch but I’m not buying it.
[Kid] Just an elementary observation I suppose. Well, you can’t say that we don’t try.
A Or the fact that you darken a mirror.
K Yeah, but can he cloud one?
A I don’t know. I dont know and I dont care. It’s not germane.
K Or Lucy or Mabel. Maybe I should pinch myself.
A That’s to see if you’re dreaming.
K And that’s not a reasonable inquiry I suppose. Well, we wont sweat it. There’s thornier issues on the table. When are you going back to school? Your grandmother’s not going to call in sick for you forever you know.
A I know.
K You keep odd hours.
A I’m an odd girl.
K Up all night scribbling calculations on your yellowpad. Maybe you should try counting sheep. Or in your case maybe logging sheep. For the numerically enhanced.
A I’ll keep it in mind.
K Or you just sit staring into space. I guess that’s part of the modus. How do you know it’s not all gibberish?
A You don’t. That’s what you’re trying to find out.
K When is Bobby Shafto coming?
A My brother will be here in two weeks.
K And then what?
A What do you mean then what?
K What are your intentions is what I mean by then what.
A My intentions?
K Yes.
A He’s my brother.
K Like you haven’t set your cap for him. To phrase it chastely.
A You don’t know what you’re talking about. Anyway, it’s none of your business.
K Well. You know me.
… Afterwards he calls her “Sweet Sixteen,” and she denies that she is sixteen years old. This should indicate that they had had a remarkable encounter when she was 16.
p. 115
“In the evening he went down to the bar and got a hamburger and a beer. No one spoke to him. When he went out Josie tilted her chin at him. I’m sorry, Bobby, she said. He nodded. He walked up the street. The old paving stones wet with damp. New Orleans. November 29th 1980. He stood waiting to cross. The headlights of the car coming down the street doubled on the wet black stones. A ship’s horn in the river. The measured trip of the piledriver. He was cold standing there in the fine rain and he crossed the street and went on. When he got to the cathedral he went up the stairs and went in.”

“There were people who escaped from Hiroshima and rushed to Nagasaki to see that their loved ones were safe. Arriving just in time to be incinerated. He went there after the war with a team of scientists. My father. He said that everything was rusty. Everything looked covered with rust. There were burnt-out shells of trolleycars standing in the streets. The glass melted out of the sashes and pooled on the bricks. Seated on the blackened springs the charred skeletons of the passengers with their clothes and hair gone and their bones hung with blackened strips of flesh. Their eyes boiled from their sockets. Lips and noses burned away. Sitting in their seats laughing. The living walked about but there was no place to go. They waded by the thousands into the river and died there. They were like insects in that no one direction was preferable to another. Burning people crawled among the corpses like some horror in a vast crematorium. They simply thought that the world had ended. It hardly even occurred to them that it had anything to do with the war. They carried their skin bundled up in their arms before them like wash that it not drag in the rubble and ash and they passed one another mindlessly on their mindless journeyings over the smoking afterground, the sighted no better served than the blind. The news of all this did not even leave the city for two days. Those who survived would often remember these horrors with a certain aesthetic to them. In that mycoidal phantom blooming in the dawn like an evil lotus and in the melting of solids not heretofore known to do so stood a truth that would silence poetry a thousand years. Like an immense bladder, they would say. Like some sea thing. Wobbling slightly on the near horizon. Then the unspeakable noise. They saw birds in the dawn sky ignite and explode soundlessly and fall in long arcs earthward like burning party favors.”

p. 165

“The rolling hills and ridges to the east. Somewhere beyond that the installation at Oak Ridge for enriching uranium that had led his father here from Princeton in 1943 and where he’d met the beauty queen he would marry. Western fully understood that he owed his existence to Adolf Hitler. That the forces of history which had ushered his troubled life into the tapestry were those of Auschwitz and Hiroshima, the sister events that sealed forever the fate of the West.”
“A hawk appeared out of the woods below and rose effortlessly and came about and drifted quarterwise down the wind and turned and rose again and hovered. Broadwing. Buteo platypterus. It passed so close he could see its eye. Eleven millimeters. The great horned owl’s were twenty-two. The same as the whitetailed deer. But rich in rods. Nighthunter. The hawk turned and dipped and skated off down the slope and then rose again, standing into the wind. Motionless. You should have migrated by now. The hawk turned once more and then it was gone. He looked again for his grandmother’s house. The green metal roof. The red brick chimney in need of tuckpointing. Her car in the driveway. How far is that? Two miles? He rose and hiked out along the crest of the ridge. A cold wind in the sun. Fox scat in the pathway. A twelvebore shotshell case trodden into the dirt. The small bent hardwood trees rooted in rock and pointing out the way the wind had gone.”
p. 198, Bobby racing
p. 199 any kind of reality he’d a stake in
p. 209, drilling, “news from another world”
p. 367, he is in Spain and imagining being on the beach with a woman. He interrupts his thoughts with this passage:
“Here is a story. The last of all men who stands alone in the universe while it darknes about him. Who sorrows all things with a single sorrow. Out of the pitiable and exhausted remnants of what was once his soul he’ll find nothing from which to craft the least thing godlike to guide him in these last of days.”

“Pale woodslave lizards circled the rings of light cast upon the ceiling by the tablelamps. Stalking the moths like predators at a waterhole. Their tufted feet. Van der Waals forces. He nodded to the men and raised his glass.”

p. 369,
“He cycled through the small port. Down the thin graveled estuary road and out along the flats. Where the salt was once evaporated for the city of Carthage. Frumentaria. The Roman word. The lights of Ibiza coming up off to the north. He sat on a stone that held an ancient iron ring and worked on a flat tired against the coming darkness. His bike standing on its forks against the wall. He listened as he fed the rubber tube past his ear. He sorted a patch from the small leather satchel that hung from the underside of the bicycle seat.”
McCarthy is talking about the Punic Wars. Scipio Africanus and his grandson, Scipio Aemilianus, worked tirelessly to conquer the city, only for the junior Scipio to find it burning in 146 BC. He supposedly tried salting over the earth so that it would never rise again.
We all know that Cato the Elder would end every single speech by wishing destruction to Carthage. “Carthago delenda est.” At this point in the Roman Republic, the city-state was still attaining its status as an “empire” by gradually taking over specific geographic tracts. It did not have designs to be an “empire,” a concept that did not exist at that point in history, but they discovered that the central government was empowered by having assets and colonies abroad. The Punic Wars coincided with Rome’s attempts at sacking Greek states, which caused an influx of Greek culture to the eternal city. They were tasting the power of hegemony. Carthage, because it was so steadfast and so difficult to take down, acted as a kind of antithesis to Rome. It was intolerable. Throughout its history, as McCarthy notes by calling it “Frumentaria” (which is a vernacular way of describing how it supplies grain), Carthage was treated as a vassal state rather than one of the formerly most powerful polities in the Mediterranean. It had to be destroyed because its existence called the strength of Rome into question.
It is this antithesis that I think Bobby is noting, mentally. Just like how he is eventually described as “the last pagan,” his steadfastness is offensive to those who demand to know. The truth is, as he seems to implicitly maintain, knowledge does not exist. It’s a myth as powerful as God. Alicia also understands that most of what she knows is probably “gibberish” (the Kid’s words).
The state of being a “passenger” in this sense is to be accountable. The missing passenger represents that Carthaginian anomaly that cannot be tolerated. The unknowable ranks alongside Judge Holden as an antagonist, in my opinion. Both Bobby and his pursuers are victims of the same influence. Only Bobby seems to understand the beast, however. It’s as if Grendel had bribed the Danes to kill Beowulf. A creature that can never be known, or else it would be destroyed.

Important: before you send your codes please make sure your account is secure (if your password is twelve characters or less it's best to assume your account has already been compromised; your password should be eight randomly selected words, see 1 and 2). Scams where compromised accounts are used to leverage reputation to scam an unsuspecting user, used to steal codes during the middle of the trade, and steal unused gift cards the victim was saving for later are increasingly commonplace. If you have any concerns as to your account's security, please reset your password now and force logout of all sessions. Thanks
